Chapter 302: Chapter 302

Wan Chu’er couldn’t help but excitedly say to Yan Hui, "Mr. Yan, the noodles in this shop are really delicious and not expensive at all."

Yan Hui cooperatively responded, "I’m just hungry, shall we give it a try?"

As soon as the two stepped into the noodle shop, they came across the proprietress coming out with bowls of noodles. With a surprised look on her face, she thought of serving the noodles to the customers and then immediately came over and grabbed Wan Chu’er.

"Oh my, girl, you’ve finally come back, and you’ve grown even more beautiful. The water and soil of Beijing really nurture people."

Wan Chu’er giggled, "Hello there, Boss Wu, may your business bloom and prosper."

The proprietress couldn’t stop smiling, "Bloom and prosper, indeed, come, come, take a seat, I’ll serve you two bowls of noodles." Saying that, she pulled Wan Chu’er to an empty seat by the window. Yan Hui didn’t mind the narrowness of the little shop and sat down with grace.

Only then did the proprietress notice Yan Hui. She paused in surprise and then joyfully said, "Oh my, what a handsome young man. If your mom finds out, she will be thrilled. Today’s noodles are on the house, and if there’s anything else you’d like to eat, just order. Today, my treat."

Wan Chu’er suddenly felt a headache from the deep misunderstanding.

She hurriedly clarified, "Boss Wu, you’ve got it wrong. He’s not in that kind of relationship with me, he is... a friend. My boyfriend is a soldier, not him."

Yan Hui also said with a smile, "You’ve indeed misunderstood. I’m not her boyfriend. I heard from Chuchu that the noodles here were good, so I came to try them."

Hearing Yan Hui’s voice, the proprietress instantly melted. She had never heard such a pleasant voice, and he was handsome and polite as well.

It took a moment for the proprietress to swallow and then turned to Wan Chu’er, saying, "You two sit, I’ll serve your noodles." After moving towards the kitchen, she then turned back regretfully to Wan Chu’er and said, "You, what a waste."

Wan Chu’er was instantly petrified.

What the heck, people in Wutong County are always straightforward, but this is too much, isn’t it? Just because Yan Hui is a friend, it’s a waste?

Annoyed, she thought to herself that Boss Wu had never met Jiang Kechu. If she had, she would have said that Chuchu had good taste.

Then she saw Yan Hui trying to hold back his laughter.

Humph, Wan Chu’er glared at Jiang Ke and then turned her head away, ignoring him.

After a while, Boss Wu followed by the proprietress came out from the kitchen, each of them carrying a plate. The proprietress brought over two bowls of noodles, choosing a bowl with more noodles for Yan Hui and then said cheerfully, "Try it quickly, these noodles are definitely hearty."

Boss Wu said to Wan Chu’er with a chuckle, "Your aunt told me you were here and I didn’t believe it, but here you are! Not bad, you indeed look much more spirited than before."

Then he placed five or six dishes of appetizers on the table from a plate, "You can’t skimp on the pickled vegetables; you’ve forgotten how well noodles pair with pickled cucumber. It was actually your idea in the first place."

In the small dishes were pickled cucumber, pickled soybeans, sliced lotus roots, cowpeas, celery, and radishes, looking colorful and appetizing.

Wan Chu’er remembered the times she and Bai Zhixi delivered pickled vegetables here, and couldn’t help but tear up, murmuring, "I haven’t forgotten, how could I ever forget."

Seeing Wan Chu’er so moved, Yan Hui was somewhat surprised and wondered what kind of story had taken place here.

Boss Wu’s wife had been chatting nonstop, introducing to Yan Hui how to best enjoy the noodles, what each pickled side dish tasted like, and so on.

Chuchu lowered her head, picked up a big chopstick-full of noodles, took a big bite, slowly chewed, and swallowed, then revealed a brilliant smile, praising, "You’re right, the noodles are still so delicious. After going to Beijing, what I missed the most was your restaurant’s noodles."

The couple running the noodle shop were even happier.

When Boss Wu and his wife left, Yan Hui, as if he were eating Western cuisine, elegantly and with proper manners finished his noodles along with the pickled side dish. Only when the bowl was empty did he wipe his mouth and say, "These noodles are indeed not bad."

Chuchu just smiled, said nothing.

After a while, Boss Wu’s wife came back to ask how the food was and if they wanted another bowl.

Chuchu smiled and gently declined her enthusiasm, "I’ve eaten a lot today, really full." Then she took two boxes out of her bag.

"This is a gift from Beijing for you and Uncle. It gets cold in Wutong during winter, so I got you both gloves and scarves."

Boss Wu’s wife exclaimed in surprise, somewhat embarrassed, "Ah, you child, why be so formal? Travelling all this distance and you still remember to buy something for me; it’s just wasting money. It’s not easy for you alone. Take it back, return it if you can. Uncle and I appreciate the gesture."

Chuchu smiled, "Don’t worry about me; I have money now. I developed a game and made quite a bit from it, and I’ll earn even more in the future.

You and my mom received so much care from you both in the past, this is just a small token of our gratitude. Please, you must accept it."

After Boss Wu’s wife confirmed several times that Chuchu was indeed not lying, she finally accepted the gift with great care, non-stop saying, "You kid, really too courteous. I knew you were good, your mother too, if not help you then who..."

Naturally, Boss Wu’s wife insisted on not taking the money for the noodles.

After leaving the noodle shop, Chuchu felt very content.

Yan Hui said, "People here are quite warm-hearted."

Chuchu smiled and said, "Yes, Boss Wu and his wife are good people. They saw my mom and me, just the two of us in a pitiful state, and helped us out quite a bit. They would buy lots of pickled vegetables even though we didn’t need that much and always helped by recommending us to others."

The two had just finished eating and were leisurely walking on the streets of Wutong County, the midday sun was warm, making it very comfortable. Yan Hui asked a question now and then, and Chuchu patiently explained.

Perhaps because she was walking in a familiar place, her mood was really relaxed and there was a hint of joy.

Wutong County indeed was a small place, so small you could bump into acquaintances at any time.

From a shop on the side of the road, Zhuo Yao had just finished shopping and was walking out when she saw Chuchu and Yan Hui approaching from the opposite direction.

Zhuo Yao instinctively retreated back into the shop, looking closely at Chuchu through the glass.

Chuchu was wearing a white long down jacket, which made her skin look even more fair and translucent. She wore blue jeans below and black leather shoes, clearly not the cheap kind you’d find at street stalls.

Zhuo Yao’s eyes practically spat fire. Chuchu, a person with neither father nor mother, why could she live such a good life!

Especially after seeing Yan Hui next to Chuchu, Zhuo Yao’s envy went even more insane. Why, why could Chuchu have such an outstanding boyfriend?

Yan Hui was naturally handsome and quite eye-catching on the street, and he looked at Chuchu with such tender affection that it only intensified Zhuo Yao’s fury to the point of agony.
