Chapter 39: Chapter 39
Marietta P.O.V
I reached home and trudged towards my room. I threw my bag as well as myself on the bed. First, I had to talk to Mom. Second, I had to get that book. Then I would think about the rest of the work. Deciding that list in my mind, I moved out of the room.
'Life isn't simple. It's never simple for anyone. We make it simple. But is there any chance of making my life simple when I have billions of troubles? Well, for now, it depends on my trials. That how far I can go to make it simple.'
Mom and Anna were preparing dinner in the kitchen, settling and checking all the things were perfect or not. It was surely more than a dinner. I walked towards Mom and giving her a side hug, I kissed her soft cheeks. She smiled at me.
"How was your day?" She asked while checking something on the notepad.
"Good," I replied. "Mom, can we talk?" I asked.
"About?" She questioned and looked at me.
"About me," I replied, looking directly into her eyes.
***********
"Mom, if I ask you something. Promise me you will tell me everything, all truth." I said.
"What happened?" She asked. Concerned, scared, confused, so many emotions appeared on her face but she covered them all.
"Mom...promise?" I said, showing her my pinky.
Since childhood whenever I had any demand and I wanted to fulfill it. I always took a pinky promise from Mom so that after hearing it she won't deny it. Although, she never rejected my demands that promise was just to assured myself.
"Okay promise. Now tell me what is it?" She asked smilingly holding my pinky.
"Mom....I... I'm not your biological child, right?" I said in a whisper, looking at her. The way her face faded away all colors proved her shock. Her eyes widened and her mouth hung low.
"What?" She shouted.
"I already know the truth, Mom." I said. We both remained silent for a while. She was looking everywhere but me.
"Please....." I hold her hand and pleaded. I needed to know everything. What happened after that? How did they found me?
"Who? Tell me who told you this?" She asked, looking slightly angry. Her voice was aggressive yet concerned and scared at the same time. She added, "Caro, right?"
"No, Mom. No one told me anything. I just know...tell me one thing how did you found me?" I said, fighting back the tears.
She sighed, looking at me, and sadly smiled. "20 years ago, Max and I were coming back from dinner late at night. Our car stopped abruptly as the engine was heated too much. Max said we need water to cool it down but we didn't have water and we were in the middle of the highway. You know the shortcut route to our mansion, I'm talking about it. Only a few people know that there is a lake inside that forest."
"Really? A lake?" I asked.
"Yeah... We had an empty bottle. Max and I went inside to the lake. The weather was pleasant that night, I was enjoying it." A smile appeared on her lips and she closed her eyes like she was imagining the scene in front of her eyes.
"There was something different and beautiful that night. So many fireflies were wandering near a tree. Beautiful like green small spotlights. Out of curiosity or you can say their beauty attracted me that I began to walk towards them. Then I saw...there was a basket under the tree decorated with white flowers. Those fireflies were wandering around that basket. I called Max to looked at the scene. It was so mesmerizing."
She opened her eyes and caressed my cheeks. "I went closer to that basket and saw a little angel carefree moving her hands and smiling at those little green spotlights. She was just like an angel, with beautiful blue eyes full of hope and new life. A beautiful smile that was brighter than the shine of stars and moon." I smiled at her words.
"We took you home with us. You were a different child, so many different hands were holding you yet you were just smiling. A normal child got irritated easily and cried but you weren't crying instead you were just passing a bright smile."
She laughed, "Alessandro held you in his little arms like you were his toy and ran in the whole mansion. He was very happy to have a new baby. While Caro didn't like you because she thought you'll steal her love and affection. We really tried to find your real parents but unable to do so we decided to adopt you. Because a week had already passed and we all got so attached to you."
"No one knows that you are an adopted child except me, Max, Anna, Caro, and Alessandro. Money can do anything, we use power and prove that you are our biological child."
Mom held my hands and looked directly into my eyes. She said, "Always remember this no matter what... You were, are, and will always remain my daughter."
"Got this?" She asked and I nodded. She pulled me in a warm hug and whispered, caressing my head, "Never thought that you are an adopted child. You are my girl, my happiness, my good luck charm. Sweety, I love you more than anything." I hugged her more tightly and closed my eyes.
"I love you too, Mom," I whispered as a lone tear escaped my eye.
The door opened and I heard Caro's voice with an abruptly incompleted sentence, "Mom, is everythin..."
We pulled apart and she looked at us with a poker face. "I guess you are busy. I'll come later." She said and about to move out when Mom stopped her.
"Stop. Come here, you silly girl." Mom said and I smiled, wiping my eyes.
Mom hugged her and said, "Don't you dare to show me that expressions of yours. Today is an important day for my doll. So show me some excitement and cheer up girl, smile." She smiled at Mom's words.
"Mom, is everything ready?" She asked, smiling brightly.
"Yeah almost, I'll go and check the rest of the work." Mom said, passing a smile at me and Caro, then she left the room.
"Big day, huh??" I asked, raising my brows.
She blessed me with her smile only indicating her good mood before saying, "Yep, Dad is going to decide a date tonight for my engagement."
"What? Really! That's great! Oh my God, I'm so happy for you. Congratulations!!!" I said more excitedly than her and jumped to hug her. She ACTUALLY hugged me back. We pulled apart as she said and left, "I'll go first." I smiled at her.
It was the first hug I got from her, from my one and only sister. It was the luckiest moment of my life maybe soon she would think of me as a sister and we could start to do sisters' things together. Maybe one day...
After that, I trudged towards my room and got ready for dinner. I chose a royal blue short-sleeved formal-length dress. The upper part had slightly embroidered while the lower part was plain yet sophisticated. You knew blue was always my favorite color. I let my hair fall on my shoulder in their original wavy look and after doing light makeup.
I was wearing earrings when I felt someone's presence in my room. I carefully turned around only to found a familiar face. I breathe in relief, for a moment I thought it was someone from the dark world.
"Why does it look like I scared you?" He asked.
"You always scare me, Walter." I complained.
"Sorry!" He grinned sheepishly.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Of course, I came to take you with me." He said, looking at me.
"Sorry, but I can't come with you. I have to attend this family dinner. I can't disappear tonight." I said, wearing the other earring. He didn't listen to me as he was busy observing something in my room. He looked back at me and I gave him a questioning look.
"Did you lock the door?" He looked at me.
"What?" I said and the next moment the door slammed open. My eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. Shit! How could I forget to lock the door?
It was Caro who was standing in front of me with a face full of confusion. My eyes moved towards Walter and he was nowhere to be seen. Where did he go?
"What are you looking for?" Caro asked and grabbed my attention. I looked back at her.
"No, nothing," I said almost instantly.
"They will be here in 10 minutes so come downstairs." She said.
"Okay, you go. I'll come after you." I said with a smile. She was wearing a black laced below knee dress, and a white diamond locket that Liam gifted her for sure, and her hair was perfectly straight, and makeup was on point as usual. She was looking stunning.
"You are looking nice." I complimented her.
"Thanks, you aren't looking that bad either." Well, this was the nearest thing to compliment according to Caroline Amino. I smiled and nodded.
She started to walk out of my room and I followed her so that I could lock the door first. Near the door, she stopped and turned around. "You want to read a book on mortals and immortals. I heard from Anna." She asked.
"Huh... Oh yeah!." I said.
"Search something on the Internet and buy one there are plenty of books on the internet. Besides, that book is unreadable." She said, scrunching her nose in disgust.
"Unreadable?" I asked.
"Yeah. I try to read it once when I'm getting bored but that book was in some weird language which I cannot understand. So how can you read it? It's not in English." She explained.
"Okay. Thanks for telling." I said.
"No problem." She said and moved out.
Guess what things were starting to getting better between us. Finally, I had waited so long only for that time when we could talk with each other like siblings. I locked the door and then leaned on it. I closed my eyes to let out a deep breath.
"Which book?" Walter said and I angled my head. He was standing beside me. I smiled. That guy!
"There is a book on Mortals and Immortals in our library but currently, that book is in Daddy's locker." I told him about that book and that I had a feeling maybe we could find something in it to defeat Annabella.
"How is it look like?" He asked curiously.
"A book which is bigger than a normal one," I said.
"No. Something about design and color." He asked curiosity was dripping from his voice. Looking at him like that I also got panicked. Something about design.....
"It is a big book and a key is designed on its cover page with a mixture of copper and golden color." I said, trying to remember when I last saw it, almost a year ago.
"The key." He said with a bright smile.
"Yes, a key." I nodded.
"No, I'm talking about 'The Key'." He again said, looking so excited.
"The Key? You're confusing me." I said irritatedly.
"We have to take back that book, Princess." He said with a bright smile, his bright blue eyes were shining.
"Why?" I asked curiously and confused.
"It's The Key." He said and I felt the need of smacking his head somewhere. What did he mean by the key? But I chose to remain silent. When another question came to my mind. How? How could we get the book back from Daddy?
I looked at Walter. Wait... A naughty smirk appeared on my face.
"Walter, you can control anyone's mind and ask anything, right?" I asked.
"Yes. Why?" This time he looked at me confused and I grinned.
