Amber’s POV

I kept staring at the face of both brothers from time to time, wondering what was going to happen next. I hadn’t met Alex’s father yet, but still, I could say that he was someone with whom I should be scared of.

“Then we have to hide, Amber.”

“Wait, what?”

“By the way, here’s your mobile which you had left at home.”, Marcus said, forwarding Alex’s mobile to him.

“Alex, what…”, I again tried to ask about his sentence which he said a moment before but stopped when I saw Mr. Davis entering the room.

“It’s nice to see you in one piece.”, He said in his regular grumpy expression. “If your mate wouldn’t have brought you in time then you would have died.”

“I know and thank you for everything you did for us.”

“I have done this for Lily.”, He corrected Alex. “And I believe you need a pair of clothes.”, He added and mind linked someone.

“Mr. Davis, I was thinking if you could help me in this situation.”, Alex said hesitantly. This was the first time, I had seen him feeling hesitant.

Mr. Davis eyes narrowed. “I won’t go against your father and risk the life of my pack members just to support you.”

“I am willing to do whatever you ask of me in return.”, He offered before Mr. Davis could turn him away again.

Mr. Davis was awfully quiet for a while and finally spoke, “I want Lily at my place by the end of the day.”

“Consider it done.”, Alex agreed immediately.

What the hell was going on!

“I will get Lily here by the end of the day and in return, you have to keep Amber hidden from my father.”

He was talking to Mr. Davis about me, in front of me but he didn’t give a damn to my presence, as if I wasn’t there at all.

“Fine, but she can’t stay here for more than a week or ten days.”

One week or ten days? Alex wanted to hide me here for this long.

“And why is that?”

“A pack can’t have two Alphas at the same time until and unless they are family members or mates because an Alpha wolf doesn’t take orders from others. Today or tomorrow, her wolf will start protesting against my orders and my wolf hates being disobeyed.”

“Okay. I know about all this stuff but I was unaware that Amber is an Alpha.”

“Well, you were also unaware that she is a werewolf.”, Marcus commented, earning a glare from his brother.

“Even I’m sti…”

I shut my mouth when Alex showed me his hand. I was not very happy with his decision nor was my wolf. She was growling in anger and I was sure that Alex could feel my anger still he was avoiding my questions and stopping me from asking anything.

“Fine. One week is enough. Thank you, Mr. Davis.”

Alex felt a little more at peace now that Mr. Davis had agreed to keep me in his pack but I didn’t want to stay here.

What was I supposed to do around here?

“Alpha”, Nate brought a pair of clothes with him in the room. Both Marcus and Mr. Davis along with Nate left the room so that Alex could change.

“Please, don’t do this to me. Don’t leave me, here!”

“I will be back soon after handling a few situations, okay?”, He said, buttoning the shirt.

“Please, Alex!! Please”, I begged him. That caught his attention, his gaze turning to me. However, from the determined look in his eyes, I could see that his mind was already made up.

“I can’t.”, He said in a cold tone. “You’re a lot safer here than you are with me.”, I opened my mouth to argue on it but he again shut me down. “Please listen to me this time, Amber. Remembered when you didn’t listen to me then what had happened?”, He asked.

Okay, fine! I knew that whatever I did that night, I shouldn’t have done that and I was already guilty about that.

He shouldn’t use that fact at this moment.

I sighed and nodded my head while my wolf was getting mad at me for agreeing to stay away from him.

“And promise me that you won’t return back to my home on your own.”, His those words, caught me off guarded.

“Why are you asking for such a promise?”

“Please…Can’t you do something for me?”, He used his emotional words to fool me but my wolf was way smarter than him.

“I promise I will return if I sense something wrong.”, I said and walked inside the washroom. I didn’t want to see him leave. Just the thought of him leaving from here was breaking my heart. I wasn’t used to unknown places and now he wouldn’t be here with me. I felt a lot more uncomfortable than I already did.

“Amber…!”

I knew he was feeling no different, but I was a little mad at him for leaving me alone. I heard him sigh before leaving the room.

I stayed in that room for god knows how long when she heard a knock. She raised her head to see the face of the person who disturbed her and found Emily.

“It’s breakfast time.”, She said. I wanted to deny her invitation because I didn’t feel like eating at all but then this was not my place where I could throw tantrums. I followed her to the dining table and found Mr. Davis, along with all the pack members on the same table.

“Attention everyone! She’s Amber Lighthood, our guest, and will be staying here with us for a while.”, He introduced me to everyone on which I smiled nervously but soon my smile widened when I received a genuine smile in return.

“You know, we can spend time together. So that you won’t feel bored.”, Emily suggested, after breakfast. I just nodded at her without giving much attention to her words. “Well, Ms. Lighthood, don’t feel sad, I’m sure you’re going to meet your mate in a day or two.”

“How…how can you say that?”

“Because I know that old cruel man.”, Emily said with so much hatred that even I could feel the bitterness in my tongue.

“How do you know so much about Alex’s father?”

“A close friend, you can say. His children have a part of humanity in their blood but talking about Nicolaus Stone, he is a selfish, cruel, and greedy man. You know, everyone says that he is like this after his wife’s death but that’s not the truth. He was always like that. The death of his wife by a werewolf was just an excuse.”

“So, it is true that his wife was killed by a werewolf?”

“Yes!”, Emily responded. “No werewolf can sit quietly when his or her mate will be harmed. As usual, those hunters had attacked the pack and had wiped almost all the pack members leaving a few, who managed to escape from there.”

I started listening carefully now.

“And unlike hiding from the hunters, those escaped werewolves planned to attack him and his organization. Those werewolves were blinded with revenge and anger and at that time, they didn’t give a damn about anything and killed everyone who came in front of them, whether it was women or children. And unfortunately, your mate’s mother was one of them.”

I gasped when I learned that. I waited for her to continue. “Do you know the most shocking thing among all?”, I shook my head when she asked me that question. “The wolf who had killed your mate’s wife had the same golden coat, which you have.”, I kept listening to her, wondering whether she was thinking the same as I was.

“Do you think that could be my…?”

“I don’t know. I don’t have any proof regarding that but golden wolves are too rare to be found. Our ancestors used to say that those wolves were magical.”

“Magical?”

“Yes! Do you know the story of Rapunzel?”, She asked, to which I quickly nodded my head. “Well, Rapunzel's mother was not the only one who had drank the medicine made up of those magical flowers. At the same time, one of the Luna in that period was terribly sick and she had drunk the same medicine during her pregnancy and then the pup born from her had the first golden wolf. And that wolf had the power to heal others.”

I kept my palm over my mouth and started shaking. I tried…I really tried to stop myself from laughing at her words but I failed miserably.

“Hahahha…you…you mean to…s..say…th..att…my..wolff..i..is…o.oneee…of..t..hose kinds.”, I hardly completed a sentence and laughed like a maniac.

“Hey, I was telling you what I have heard from my father.”, She huffed. “Maybe that news couldn’t be true but this fact is true that you have the same golden coat which the killer of Alex’s mother had.”, Immediately I stopped laughing. “Why do you think that your mate is hiding you here? I would assume that his father already knows everything. Which means he’s extremely angry with his son and you. For a moment he might leave his son alive, I repeat..MIGHT but he will definitely not leave you.”

“But…I’m a way far from him.”

“You think that now. But when he will find out that you have marked your mate then he might use him as bait, a bait to trap you. And in case you won’t appear then he would send your mate’s dead body to experience the most painful death.”

My face immediately turned pale after hearing her.

I stopped breathing.

Kill my Alex?
