Chapter 69: Chapter 69
I stare at the clear bold words in front of me. Pregnant. I try to go through memories in my head to a time where Jade told me she was pregnant. Ugh! I can't remember. This is so frustrating.
Here I am sitting down on my bathroom floor holding a pregnancy test, speechless and motionless. Does this have anything to do with her murder?
I can't seem to process this new found information. How could I have not known my best friend was pregnant? I lived with her, I saw her every single day and...Tears start rolling down my face.
In one night, my whole life has changed. Sure I have other friends but, none of them is, was Jade. I'm not sure what to do with the test. Should I give it to the police? It may help with the investigation. I pick up the pregnancy test and place it on the sink. I go to the kitchen, trying hard not to wake my mother up in the living room. I open the second drawer and pull out a plastic bag. I head back to the bathroom and put the test in the plastic bag. I look at the time, it's 3:56 am. It is way too early for me to call detective Chandler. I really need to get some sleep.
I turn off the lights in my bathroom and walk to my bedroom. I flop on the bed. I know I need to sleep but I don't feel tired. I pick up my phone and lay on my back. I pull the covers over me. I look through my phone to see if there's anything on it that will help me remember. I look through my texts with Jade. The last thing she sent to me was that she'll be home in a few minutes and to start getting ready for the party. The text before that was the address of the party. I get a piece of paper and a pen and I write down the address. 54 Addison Road. That may come in handy later. I look though my other texts. There's nothing out of the ordinary. Well, that wasn't much help. I put my phone down and lay straight, looking up at the ceiling. Eventually, my eyelids grow heavy and my eyes shut close.
I'm sitting down on a couch in the living room of a house. It must be the party house. Music is playing loud and almost everyone is dancing. I'm sipping alcohol from a red cup. I glance over to Jade. She's dancing with some guy. A white guy with short brown hair and an anchor tattoo on his arm. He whispers something in her ear. She doesn't look too good. She looks drunk. She smiles and he leads her somewhere...
When I wake up, it's from the sound of my mom's voice. She's calling me for breakfast. I look at the clock it's 8:32 am. I'm exhausted. I head to the bathroom and splash water on my face. My hair is a big afro mess of kinks and curls. I brush my teeth quick and head to the kitchen. Again my mom has created a feast. Eggs, pancakes, chicken bacon, fruit salad and hash browns lay on the table. I could barely eat the dinner from last night. This is too much food. We sit down to eat. The news is on. My mom likes to watch it on silent. Why? I have no idea. After a few seconds of watching the news in silence, a picture of Jade flashes on the screen. "Turn it up" I yell to my mother. She does.
"... Just 2 days ago a young woman was found dead right here in Toronto near Pineridge University. According to the police statements, the woman was found wrapped in a carpet near a dumpster behind an off-campus residence. Apparently, there had been a party going on that night. The woman has been ID as Jade Butler, a student at Pineridge."
In the back of the woman reporter, there's the house. 54 Addison Road. The door is barred off by yellow tape with the word "caution" on it. Police officers walk in and out of the house. They must've of figured out this was the party house. So much for my help. At least, I still have the pregnancy test.
"... Investigation is still going on. No suspects have been apprehended yet. For the next few days, we will be closely following this case. Stay tuned for more information after the break"
Commercials start to play and my mom clicks the tv back to silent. My phone starts vibrating massively. Vibrates of calls and texts I refuse to answer. Now they want to check up on me?
The buzzer goes off. I'm about to get up to find out who it is but instead, my mom gets up quickly and lets the person in. She must've invited someone over. It's probably my dad.
A few seconds later I hear a knock on the door.
"Come in" my mom yells.
The door opens and Officer Wesley, or should I say Greg, stands at the door.
"Hi," he waves with a smile. I can't help but stare at his braces. The way the metal takes up the majority of his whole mouth.
I give my mom a look. She ignores it and says:"you're dad couldn't make it for breakfast and we had all this food, it'd be a shame if we let it go to waste."
She was right. I couldn't eat all this food. But judging how skinny Greg is, I don't know if he can eat much either.
After breakfast is finished, I'm surprised by the amount of food Greg has consumed. I guess you really can't judge a book by it's cover. I'm about to pick up the plates and cutlery to bring them to the sink, but Greg beats me to it.
"He's such a fine young man, isn't he Mia?" My mom says.
Is she really trying to set me up right now? Did she forget what happened to me? Why would she think I would even want a boyfriend right now? It's like my mom is blocking what happened to me out of her mind, and my dad can't seem to forget it. So much that he can't even look at me, he can't even be here.
I try not to let this bother me. It's 10:40. I should probably start getting ready for my therapy session. I head to the bathroom and lock the door. I turn on the shower and warm water starts spurting out of the shower head. I step in and the water hits me.
I decide to wash my hair. After applying shampoo and conditioner, I rinse it out. I close me eyes and put my head under the showerhead and let the water hit my face...
I see someone bringing Jade and I a drink. It's the same guy with the tattoo. He's right in front of me. I can see his face clearly. Brown short hair, gray eyes, a wicked smile. This guy looks dangerous.
I open my eyes. Did I just see one of Jade's killers?
