Chapter 75: Chapter 75
Early the next day, Jason got ready to go to the hospital. He didn't need to ask Manuel if it was ready because he had assured him the previous day that he would definitely get the test results.
He got to the hospital after being Ed up in traffic.
'Good morning, Jason. You are here quite early', Manuel greeted him.
'Yes. I have been anxious about the test results since we left here yesterday. You assured me it would be ready. Hope it is?'
'Yes. But Jason?'
'Yes?'
'Would it really be a bad thing if the baby was yours? Don't you long for a family of your own? Sorry that was the wrong choice of words.
Don't you long to have children of your own? You are a very wealthy man. Does having an heir not sound pleasing to you?' the doctor asked curiously.
'Why are you asking these questions? I do not mind at all. I may not have given it much thought when Rebecca and I were still married and even afterwards but since the recent developments, I have wondered why I have not given a thought to it. Afterall, I do not need to get married to have children. Just that it is tight that my heir should be a legitimate one and for that to happen, he must be born within wedlock. And the lady in question is one that I do not love. I do not even feel attracted enough to her to endure being married to her'.
'But the lady I saw that day was not really a bad looking brood. And she carried herself with grace. And if you didn't find her attractive, Sorry, I am speaking frankly now as one friend to another, then why did you get intimate with her?' Dr. Manuel asked perplexed.
'What is your point exactly?' Jason asked.
'Well, I do not know if congratulations are in order but the test shows that the baby is yours. I would normally have given you the envelope in which the results were enclosed so that you find out yourself but ours goes beyond professionalism'.
'Are you sure of that?'
'Would I deceive you? Here is your result. Go through it yourself', Manuel said giving the sealed envelope containing the test result to Jason.
Jason was scared to touch it at first as though it would burn him if he did. But he pulled himself together and collected the envelope. Tore it and read through.
Different thoughts and emotions went through him.
He had thought about this for so long but the realty was something he had not really been prepared for. He saw his happiness with Nancy moving out of his reach.
He felt that there must be a way he could keep his child and still salvage the situation. If Nancy agreed to marry him, then she could become the mother of his child while Phoebe would be well settled for life so that she would not disturb them.
After reaching that decision, he could not wait for the night to come so that he could discuss it with Phoebe. He was filled with anxiety to get the ball rolling.
He knew that it would be a waste of time going to the office
Do, he decided to call Phoebe to know where she was so that they could meet and talk. He didn't know if they should meet outside their houses or not just in case Phoebe caused a scene.
She didn't look like one who would and he was not expecting any problem from her but he just had to make sure.
He got up. Dr. Manuel had been watching him all the while and was scared that he would have to do something to revive him because he had looked so shocked but thank goodness that he got over it.
'Thank you, doctor. I will be in touch', Jason said offering the doctor his hands.
'Anytime, Jason. Anytime. Have a great life'.
Jason drove away but before that he called Phoebe who told him that she was already in her business arena.
He drove directly to the place. This could not wait. Not at all!
When he got there, he was told that the madam was not there yet.
Jason could not believe it.
'What are you saying? I just called her and she asked me to come to this place!' he said impatiently. Thinking that they must be obeying their madam's orders not to disturb her.
'Then she must be on her way. You would not have met her at home, that was why she asked you to meet with her here'. The girl said.
Jason considered this and felt that there was sense in what the girl said. He did not know how long he would have to wait for Phoebe to get there but he hoped it was not for long.
He was ushered to a special waiting room and given a seat.
He looked round and found that Phoebe was really doing well. The place was well stocked and full and there were customers coming and going.
He was pleased that she was doing something with herself.
He became impatient again and called Phoebe who told him that she was close to her store.
Jason stood and paced round the room. He could not stay there. He was feeling claustrophobic.
He was claustrophobic by nature but the wait was making him breathless with impatience. He went outside to pace some more and luckily, he found her strolling into the premises of the store.
Good morning, Jason. Why are you outside? You were not offered a seat in the waiting room?'
'I was but you know that I am a very busy person, it felt like I was wasting my time and I was just about going away when I sighted you. Why did you tell me to come here when you were still at home?' he asked suspiciously.
'I was already on my way to the store and it would be a waste going back home, if I had asked you to come home. Since I was already on my way here, I felt it was better if we both met here', she lied glibly.
She had been in bed with Romeo when he had called. She had had to take a quick bath and be in her way here.
She had asked the cab driver to drive fast. But that was not for Jason to know.
She was also anxious to know the outcome of the test he had subjected her to the other day.
Happy Holiday, dear readers. Thanks so much for your continued patronage.
