Chapter 67: Chapter 67
Nancy went to the office very early, the next day. She didn't want to go in the same car with Jason. The activities that have occured recently had made her realise that she did want so much to be with Jason.
He was such a good and generous man but she wanted more. More than he was willing to offer. If he had once said that he loved her, even without a marriage proposal, she would have willingly been with him hopeful that marriage would definitely follow.
He was honest and didn't want to lie to her. So if he had said he loved her, then she would have known that he spoke the truth.
Being in the closure a car would provide might just make her lose her cool and reveal her true feelings to Jason and she did not want his pity. She would just continue to act aloof. Afterall, all hope was lost, he had his ex wife vying to come back into his life and one of his mistresses was expecting his baby. What chance did she have especially being pregnant with another man's child and growing fat and ugly with the advancement of her pregnancy?
How could she hold a touch to those beautiful, elegant and classy women who flock round him?
She would do better to stay in her limit.
So she got to the office and started doing what she could before others started coming in.
Anna had noticed a change in Nancy for some time now. Not only that she had started showing but the fact that she seemed so preoccupied and unhappy.
She had thought that the thought of having her baby soon was depressing her since there was no one to be a father to the child but she had a gut feeling that it might just be more than that.
She decided not to ask her until Nancy felt inclined to confide in her.
But this morning, the frenzy with which she was working made her decide not to take her own advice.
She tidied up her table and wanted to go to her and ask but Jason, their boss came in looking worn and stressed and this gave Anna pause.
Could both event be related? They lived in the same premises afterall. He drives her to the office but she came today on her own, not the first time but he also came in and both of them looking like what the cat just dragged in.
Something was fishy.
She had noticed how her boss looked at Nancy when he thought no one was looking.
She was sure he liked Nancy alot and had been happy that at least Nancy would have some love in her life, some make attention and since they lived together, she had prayed that things would advance between them. She was not sure, though of Nancy's feelings. Sometimes she acted like she liked their boss more than necessary and at other times, Anna got the impression that it was just gratitude she felt towards him. But with the way they were both acting, she smelled a rat.
'Good morning Sir'
'Good morning Anna', he replied.
Others greeted him as well as the ascended and entered his office.
Anna heard a stiff, 'Good morning Sir' from Nancy and but could not hear his response.
She decided that that wasn't the time for a chat with Nancy. She could wait till lunch break.
Jason called his doctor.
'Good morning Dr. Manuel, could I see you at lunch today?'
' Good morning. Hope you are okay?'
'Yes I am. It concerns someone else but it is pretty urgent'
Well, what time exactly?'
'Would 1pm be okay by you?' Jason asked
'Only if you will come to the hospital. I have patients I have to attend to at that time but I will make out time to see you if it is as urgent as you say it is'.
'It is and I promise it would not take much of your time. I need your advice about something's
'Alright then, 1pm, it is'.
Jason could not wait for it to be lunch time before he rushed out the door, asking Nancy to keep all his appointments on hold.
Nancy was not surprised at his strange behaviour. He was already acting the way an anxious father would. She felt a stab in her chest and a tear drop but quickly wiped it off but not before Anna who had come in just then saw it.
Nancy could not believe that she was actually jealous of Phoebe. She had never been jealous of her and later when she started having feelings for Jason, she had never considered Phoebe a threat but now, she was jealous of her. Nancy felt dis gusted with herself and made a deliberate effort to forget about all that. There was no use crying over spilt milk.
If she had not been foolish enough to believe a villain, she would not be in the situation she was in now.
'And you would not have got to know Jason and love him', a tiny voice in her head said to her.
'What is the use knowing him? What has it brought me but more heart ache?' she said aloud thinking that she was alone in the office.
'Who might you be referring to?' Anna asked, coming into the office.
Nancy was shocked. How long had Anna been standing there and what exactly had she heard and what was she deducing from what she had heard?
'Oh nobody. I was just thinking aloud'.
'Of course you were. That much was obvious. Were you perchance thinking about our handsome and charismatic boss? Is he the person who has added to your heartbreak?' Anna asked gently, touching her shoulder.
Nancy felt her concern and all her emotions came to the fore. She had been gasping at her wondering how much Anna knew of her feelings for their boss but Anna's gesture of kindness was Nancy's undoing and she broke down in tears.
