Chapter 170: Chapter 170

When they got home, they found that Nancy was already there. Jason had to hold his rage. It was not Nancy's fault after all but there was someone he wanted to vent. all his anger on and that was Phoebe. She was the only one who could have committed this atrocity. He couldn't believe that he had found her attractive enough to have had an affair no matter what kind with her but it had been because of the circumstance at the time but even then, he had known that he didn't want permanence with her. But for her to be this heartless?

He needed to find out from Mrs. Potts why she allowed Nancy out of her sight in the first place or allowed her to go out despite his. instructions.

'Mrs. Potts!'

'Mr. Campbell Sir, I know what you want to ask me. Nancy told me that she wanted to take a stroll and that I need not come with her but stay and watch the house and that she would be back in a jiffy. I was skeptical but she insisted and since I wanted to gain her trust and one of the ways was to show her that I trusted her, I allowed her especially since she was going alone anyways. What harm could come to her? That was what I thought before I started getting scared when I waited for her for some hours and she was still not back'.

'Do you know if she got a call before going out?'

'Come to think of it, I heard her speaking in her room and when I asked her who she was speaking to, she told me that she had been thinking aloud'

'What about?' I asked her a d she said it was how she was going to regain her memory'. It was frustrating her that she could remember nothing. That was why I consented to her going out because we'll, it could help her think less of the memory problem or so I thought'.

Jason deduced that the call she got had been from Phoebe or any of those men who had used her in court but it had come as a surprise. Jason had not been expecting this at all.

They were still discussing this downstairs when they heard Nancy scream.

They ran up to find out what the problem was and saw her holding her head.

'What is it, Nancy?'

'Nothing. Just headaches!'

'But you know you did this to yourself. The doctor had asked you not to task yourself. Even if you do not care for yourself, what about your baby? The people using you this way against me, do you think that they love you too much and care for your health or the welfare of your baby? Think and make the wise decisions'.

'Okay, okay. But could you leave now, please? I want to rest for a while'.

Jason had wanted to say more. To ask her how she managed to know where the court session was holding and who brought her there but she was obviously in agony and still holding her head as if she wanted to stop it from falling off.

'Take your drugs. I shall be back to check on you once you have rested adequately', he left shutting the door quietly.

After he had gone, Nancy thought that the man was not really as bad nor ruthless as he had been made out to be. He sincerely cared for her and her baby.

What bothered her more was that together with the headaches, she was having flashes. Scene flashes she didn't understand yet and that was why she did not want to tell anyone yet.

The pictures were blurry. They were mainly of her with a man in an intimate embrace and she supposed that the man was Rodney since they must have been intimate for her to have become pregnant with his child.

But at the court, she had felt no connection or any romantic feelings towards him the way she kept feeling towards Jason.

If not for the fact that she was sure that she had not had any intimate relations with Jason, she would have thought that the person in her vision or flashes was Jason and not Rodney. It was all so confusing.

But one thing she was sure was that she was not going to allow herself to go through what she passed through in court anymore. She had not been herself ever since together with a nagging feeling that something was off. What could be wrong when she was trying to right a wrong that had been done to the father of her child.

She realised that the testimony of Chris was what was disturbing her. Had that big man actually tried to kill her at the hospital when she was still in a coma? Or was it another lie they had cooked up to try and implicate Rodney further?

She did not know why she had started feeling antagonistic towards Rodney and more favourably towards Jason. She had always liked Jason until Phoebe had told her the truth about him. She had been the one who had convinced her to come to court and had told her what to say and how to act and she had felt that she was doing the right thing but right now, she was not so sure.

Jason descended the stairs deep in thought. Why had Nancy not felt the headaches in the court house where she heard alot of things? Why in the house now? Or had she had been had not told anyone?

Anyway, he had to speak to Phoebe. He called and asked her to come over immediately.

Phoebe had been expecting the call and gave one excuse why she couldn't come.

'I am very weak and tired at the moment. Pregnancy blues, you understand. I can't come now, maybe later or tomorrow. Are you going to court tomorrow? What is the rush anyways?'

'Okay!' Jason said not telling her that he would go to her. If mountain refuses to go to Mohammed, then Mohammed had no option but to get smart.

He got there and found her with her Romeo.

'What is wrong with you Phoebe? Can you come home now and see what you have caused? How can one feel comfortable having you as a wife at home with this wicked streak in you even if it is as a make believe wife?'

'Jason what are you rambling on and on about? I do not understand what you are talking about!'

'But how can you understand? You do not understand human emotions. You are as cold as a cucumber and so selfish I wonder what I ever saw in you to have made me get trapped into this mess with you but I can definitely free myself from the trap', Jason said fuming. 'You did this the other time and I thought that you had learnt your lesson and won't do it again. I even asked you not to come to the house when I was not around, yet you were able to get Nancy on the phone and brainwashed her into coming to court to testify against me. Is getting rid of her that important to you that you would want to endanger her life and that of her unborn child and you claim to be pregnant yourself?'

'Jason, you are jumping to conclusions!'

'Am I? She did not know where the court was sitting and neither did we talk about it in the house. The only person who knew was you. How then did she get there? All of Richmond's men were in the court and none of them dates go near my mansion not with the court case ongoing. They would not want to implicate themselves, so who did if not you?'

Romeo had had enough and was going to take this no more.

'How is Nancy now?' he asked.

'At home screaming her head out because of the severity of the headaches she is having. I fear for her baby and to think a woman is responsible for this! How heartless'

'I am not!'

'But you are!' Romeo said to the surprise of both Jason and Phoebe.

'You made a call to her. I was in the washroom but I overheard you asking her to come out since you did not want to be seen in the mansion because you had important news for her. You then dressed up and went to meet her. You must have taken her to the court house and then came back telling me you had gone to buy somethings. You know, I am tired of all this. A woman is supposed to be compassionate and generous but you are selfish and greedy and I do not think that I can continue with you anymore. Do what you please with the pregnancy, I do not care anymore. There are lots of women out there. I know that I can do much better than you and you shall come to realise that all these scheming do not pay in the long run'.

He went in, hot out his bag and picked his few clothes and left with Phoebe's mouth agape.

'What did he mean by not caring what you did with the pregnancy?'

'How am I supposed to know? He was here and you didn't ask him but are asking me now that he had left?'

'I feel that he meant that the pregnancy had been his all the while but you had been scheming to foist it on me right?'

'Jason, I do not have time for your jokes. Please leave. I want to have a little rest. Are you not satisfied with what you have accomplished?'
