Chapter 137: Chapter 137
Why was Maze coming back. He must have sensed that his boss would need him and so he had come back to his rescue.
Or maybe he had not trusted her enough to leave his boss alone with her.
Inside, Rodney was calling for her and she knew that any moment from then, he would want to come and find out what was delaying her in the restroom and the gate was locked and she did not have the key. She was so close to escaping and yet it was so impossible. She was frustrated.
To crown it all, Maze was getting closer and closer to the gate.
If she had stood a chance with Rodney alone, how could she hope to defeat the two of them and still make good her escape.
She would just have to admit defeat and quickly go back inside and unlock the door before Rodney came to find out that he had been locked in.
She was going to run back into the house when he heard Rodney call her name asking why she had locked him in.
At that moment, Maze heard and came running. He opened the gate and left it open as he rushed into the house using the spare key to open the door.
Nancy did not wait to find out what would happen. She rushed out the gate immediately she saw Maze run into the house.
She knew that she did not have much time before they realised what had happened and come after her and she could not run too fast because of her pregnancy but thank goodness that she had planned to put on a flat footwear ahead of time. That would have further hampered her movement.
The road seemed endless and she did not see anyone. She looked behind and saw two men running after her. She was getting tired and nearly fell from looking behind her but had to catch herself.
She knew that the two men running after her were none other than Rodney and Maze and they were running fast and catching up with her.
Then she saw a cluster if bushes on one side of the road and some packed cars, she ran into the bushes, with no hope of escaping them. They only need to look into the bushes and they would see her.

Jason knew that the police would be going to hotels and motels. So he decided to check out private lodgings that were mostly in out - of - the - way places.
He had been doing this more seriously since Alfred had called to tell him that Rodney was not either in his office or home and though they had tried to hide it, it was evident they either did not know where he had gone to especially those at the office or he was supposed to have been back before now, if his wife was to be believed and they had no cause to doubt her.
Also, Alfred had gone ahead to make a recording of the conversations he had with them just in case it came in handy.
He was going to a particular lodging that was in the middle of no where.
They had traced through electronic trackers, the lodgings in that vicinity and he was going to check out the fifth one.
As he drove, he came to a cluster of bushes on the side of the road.
Ordinarily, it would not have mattered to him but he thought that his eye caught a moment.
He slowed down and wound down. Everywhere was calm and he thought that it must have been a trick of the light or the movement of the bushes as a result of air.
Jason was going to wind up and speed up the car when a more definite movement in the bush caught his eye again and he knew for sure that his eyes had not deceived him the first time round.
He heard a scream and then running sounds and then a woman came into view running towards the road.
He wasn't going to stop until he was sure it was not some kind of trick to mob him. Such scenarios was not unheard off where a woman behaves as though she was in danger but all a plan with some rough gangsters and an innocent man trying to help is rubbed and maybe injured. And he had an important task at hand but on closer examination, he saw that the woman looked familiar and in fact it was, oh, it couldn't be, he must be hallucinating. Could the lady really be Nancy?
He quickly stopped the car and shouted her name, 'Nancy!'
He got off the car and came running towards her with joy at having found his quarry and cutting short a quest that would have otherwise been long and heart rendering.
Nancy could not believe it when she heard the voice. When she was eating that evening, she had not taken any alcoholic drink, else she could have thought that the drink was having an effect on her.
How could Jason be here? Or more accurately, how had he found this godforsaken place that was in the middle of nowhere?
However that was, she had never been glad to see anyone the way she was to see Jason just then. She was going to be rescued was the thought that kept going round and round her head.
'If Nancy was here, then Rodney should be here somewhere', Jason thought to himself.
'Nancy. You don't have to be afraid, I have come to your rescue'. he said happily moving towards her.
'Do not take another step, Campbell', a voice that was unmistakenly Rodney's said.
Jason looked at Rodney standing behind Nancy, a gun pointed on her head.
Nancy who had been so happy a while ago, had the happy smile gradually disappear from her face and in its place was fear and despair.
'Rodney put away that gun. Your fight is with me and not with her', Jason said trying to divert his attention from Nancy to him.
'And who said so? I had her first but you came and brainwashed her against me'.
Jason did not think it was the right time to tell him nobody brainwashed Nancy against him but he pushed Nancy away from him by himself.
He felt that reminding him about all that was going to antagonize him and make him shoot.
'She is too smart by half. Imagine trying to deceive me. Me! Rodney Richmond. I shall teach you to be too smart for your own good.
'What do you need with Nancy anyways? You are married and that was why you abandoned her in the first place. What has changed suddenly? Did you suddenly realise that you love her more than your beloved wife and most treasured children? Why are you intent on ruining her life?
You asked her to move on with her life which is what she has done. Why are you back now to distrupt the order in her life?' Jason said unable to hold back any longer.
'You would know that now, won't you. Afterall you cannot have your own children and so, wants to adopt another man's child as yours. You want me to leave Nancy with you together with my child. You need the full package. Isn't that so?'
'Rodney! How can you be so cruel?' Nancy screamed, her fear leaving her. She could not condole such negative things being said about Jason.
'Shut up, you cheat slut. Why will you not rush to his aid?'
Jason had used the opportunity to draw his gun and trained it on Rodney.
'Don't try anything funny or I'll blast your head off without a second thought. I have nothing to lose, see?' A voice said behind Jason.
