Chapter 43: Chapter 43
Sam strode out of the Silvercorp building for the last time, clutching the last of her personal belongings. She paused on the unusually less busy sidewalk and lifted her face to the sky, taking a deep breath.
Freedom had never smelt so typically New York. The one month notice had ended today and she was never so glad to see the last of the office. Like she had expected, it had been a challenging month, what with the speculative and judgmental looks and whispers that had seemed to follow her around. She had ignored most of it, and the fools who had the audacity to say anything to her face had been treated to a tongue lashing that sent them scurrying away like rats.
Still, it felt good to finally be rid of that bullshit. In the past month, she had solidified her plans to join Dee and Kimberly, and though she’d spent a sizable amount of her savings in buying into the partnership, she had a good feeling that she had made the right decision.
She resumed walking, headed to the station where she would take a train home. She supposed she could call a cab or an uber, but she needed the walk to clear her thoughts, and besides traffic was likely to be abysmal at this point and she could end up having little to no time to get home and change without being late. Ryan’s flight would arrive in New York from Maui in three hours and she intended to be waiting for him at his apartment, in a sexy little outfit to welcome him back, and tell him in no uncertain terms that she was done needing space.
A thrill skated down her spine and her steps quickened as she mentally went through the contents of her wardrobe to pick out something suitable for the evening. Something sexy, but at the same time easy to get out of…or rip off…whichever was faster.

Ryan let himself into his dark apartment, dumping his bags on the floor and stretching muscles that were sore from a long flight. He fished out his phone from his pocket to check if Sam had called back or replied to any of his messages, but there was nothing, save for the last text she’d sent while he was leaving the airport an hour ago, welcoming him back.
He debated just going over to her place and checking to see if she was okay. Today had been her last day at Silvercorp and though she’d assured him numerous times that she was excited to leave and join Dee’s business, she could still be upset. In fact, when he had suggested coming over to her place as soon as he left the airport, she’d turned him down, saying she was meeting up with her friends that evening.
Which was what she was busy doing now anyway, hence the reason she hadn’t answered his calls or text.
He brushed a hand over his face, grimacing at the rough state of his beard. Damn eleven hour flight. He was hungry, fucking exhaused. He sniffed the air, picking up a hint of a scent that reminded him of Sam.
“Great,” he muttered, moving into the room to turn on the lights. “I’m imagining smells too.”
A flick of the light switch bathed his living room with lights and he yawned, tugging off his jacket and headed to the kitchen, not that there was any food in there after being away for a month, but maybe Halley or his mom had…
He caught sight of something on the floor and froze mid thought. “What the hell?”
A trail of what looked like rose petals led from the living room towards his bedroom. He stared for several seconds, hardly believing his eyes then made a beeline for the bedroom. He flung open the door and for the second time that evening he froze, mind boggled and hardly daring to believe his eyes.
“Welcome home,” Sam, wearing the same red robe she’d worn the one time they’d had phone sex, sat on his bed, legs folded beneath her, hair flowing in glorious waves past her shoulders and wearing a sultry smile. “Did you have a good flight?”
Ryan was pretty damn sure his mouth was hanging open, while the lower half of him sprang to attention. God, please, let this not be a dream. I’ll start going to church, anything but let this be real.
His legs, deciding that his brain had become useless, carried him further into the room to stand at the foot of the bed, never taking his eyes off her. “Please tell me I’m not dreaming. That you’re here, in my bed, looking so damn delicious.”
In answer, she smiled and crawled towards him, rising to her knees and slipped her arms around his neck. “Does this feel real?”
Her scent surrounded him, the feel of her, soft and pliant and so, so real, setting off fireworks in his chest. “Fuck, yes.” He met her heated gaze, pupils dilated in arousal, lips parted softly, tempting him, begging to be kissed. “I thought you were spending the evening with friends? Not that I’m complaining, because, fuck, I’m thrilled to see you.”
“I wanted to surprise you and I needed you to actually come back to your place, not mine.” she giggled and his cock twitched at the sound. “Surprise!”
“Best, surprise. Ever.” He grinned, lifted her and spun around, laughing when she shrieked in surprise and clutched at his shoulders. Coming to a halt, he set her back on the bed, enjoying the slide of her body against his. “I’ve missed you so much, baby.”
“I missed you too.” she slid her arms back to his neck, her expression turning serious. “We’ve spent so much time apart, and I don’t want to waste another minute without you. You once told me you hoped I would fall back in love with you, but Ryan, I never stopped. I love you so much.
This was every dream he’d had over the past month come true and then some. Lacking the words to express how he felt, he kissed the tip of her nose, her chin, her forehead, and finally, her mouth.
He relished the slide of her tongue over his, the kisses growing hotter and hotter. He ground their bodies together, needing to feel her without the barrier of their clothing. Pushing her robe off her shoulders, he trailed a fiery path of kisses over the bare skin at her shoulders, making his way down to her breasts. She moaned and arched into him, head thrown back, a death grip on his shoulders as he took her nipple into his mouth.
He gently pushed her to lie down, covering her with his body, legs tangling together as they urgently explored each other. He was so wound up, his need to be inside her threatening his sanity.
He broke the kiss and looked at her, all flushed and aroused beneath him. “Baby, I need to be inside you now, I’ll make it good for you, I promise, but if I’m not inside you in the next couple seconds, I'm gonna explode.”
In answer, she locked her legs behind his back. “Hurry.”
The next few seconds are a flurry of clothing and donning protection until finally, they were both bare. She reached for him, finding him hard and heavy and guided him to her wet heat. He held her gaze as he sank into her slowly, already on the cusp of his orgasm.
“Fuck, you feel so good.” He rasped, his words fragmented as he began to thrust inside her. Her cries and moans urged him on faster, harder until he came hard, shouting her name.
Much later, they lay in a tangle of arms and legs, lost in a post orgasmic haze. Lifting his head to stare at the woman who’d turned his life on its head, he pressed a soft kiss to her cheek. “I love you, Sameera Bhaat, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
She beamed at him and traced the line of his beard. “I love you too.”
He grinned and gathered her close. “You know I’m not letting you leave this apartment for the next couple days, right?”
“Mmmm, that’s good, because I have nowhere important to be.”
He leaned down and kissed her. “Good.”
