Chapter 25: Chapter 25

Actually, she can get treated, the only issue is that it will be a very expensive surgery.

Is there no other way doctor, how can my baby even bear to have a surgery? She is too young; can he bear the effects. Lisa said as she looked hopefully at the doctor. When she saw him shake his head, she knew there really was no hope for her. the only way to go forward was with the surgery. How much is needed for the surgery.

Taking a deep breath, the doctor gave a figure that had her take a sharp intake of breath. No way a hundred and twenty thousand. How could he come up with such an amount? Fighting against the fear and worry gnawing in her heart, she said okay. She only had a week at most and the longer they prolonged the time for the surgery, the worser it would become. She walked out woodenly. Shock making her walk like a robot. She needed to get a hundred and twenty thousand and her daughter was in a critical condition. Maybe it was time she called her dad.

Fumbling with her phone without seeing anything, she called her dad who answered on the first ring. Papa, I need you. She said as she tried to hide the trembling in her voice.

Okay I’ll be there in the morning.

Yes, that was her dad. He was always there for her anytime she asked him to. He did not need explanations as to why he was needed, no rather he was going to come. After her call, she walked and met Lexi, she needed her. getting there she just hugged her. it was then that Lexi convinced her to go home and get changed while she watched her baby. Just as she was about to refuse, Lexi pushed her an she had to go.

Somehow, she managed to get past the hospital and onto the road. Deciding to walk for a while as she waited a taxi, she walked slowly, her thoughts long lost on her problems. She probably needed to ask Anthony to close the shop on her behalf as she could not possibly go back. The good thing was that tony was understanding and even offered to come visit in the evening.

It was while walking that she heard a car screech just before it could hit her. heart racing in thunderous momentum, she crashed and fell down. A young man stepped out to help her out while scolding her for her carelessness. How could he just walk in the middle of the road and that too without looking. After realizing that she was not hurt, he helped her up and offered his help.

Because at this moment she was crying loudly, tears and snot covering her face and no matter how much she wanted to top, she just couldn’t seem to. Everything just felt claustrophobic, and now she had nearly been hit. What would she have done if the car had not stopped? She felt weak and she just didn’t know what to do. She also felt ashamed for losing it on the road. The stranger then took her to her house and left her there.

Getting there, she was on autopilot. She mechanically removed her clothes and soaked herself in the bathing tub. She felt weary and tired. Taking a deep breath, she sank her head beneath the water and only came up when she was growing breathless. Was that how her daughter felt, breathless. He had looked so frail when sleeping there it hurt to look. No more tears could come and so after a while, she moved to her room and changed into comfortable clothes. By the kitchen, she made some strong coffee and the smell of it helped to calm her frayed nerves.

She then climbed a taxi to the hospital. She only had five thousand dollars to herself, the entirety of her savings and that could not help even a quarter of the surgery. Rubbing her temples, she looked through her phone contacts thinking of ways to come up with the money. She wanted to come up with it as soon as possible. Her hand hovered over Omar’s contact. She had never forgotten it; it was etched in her heart like a brand.

This reminded her of the business proposal he had given her but she quickly stopped her train of thoughts. She could not accept it. Besides marriage opened up her life to more things and he was not ready for all that. She could not afford to have Omar know about Marya. There was no knowing what he would do with the information. Sighing, he messaged a few of her friends for help but she only managed to get thirty thousand. That was still too little.

It was while she sat on the waiting chair, observing her daughter’s chest rise and fall that she finally realized that for now her only option was to talk to Omar. What she would do was she would accept the proposal and look for a way to divorce him after a while. But she had to first ensure that her daughter got the money she needed for her surgery. With her mind made up, she texted him for a meet up the following day.

She could not believe that she was going to accept his proposal but so what, she needed the money urgently. For as long as her daughter was okay then what was a little discomfort. He thought of how her father would feel if he knew she had decided to marry the man but she hoped with all her heart that he would understand.

Like that, Lisa fell into a fitful sleep that was accompanied by nightmares. Her baby was being taken aware from her by a man she could not see clearly who turned into Omar, then she became sickly an she started disappearing.
