Chapter 20: Chapter 20
Lisa moved with a pace that bordered between running and flying. Yeah, she had only received a call in the morning that she had to meet with eve and his groom this morning for something. Having to prepare the child then breakfast made her a little bit behind time and she had to let Alex drop Marya off to school. Stopping to catch a breath she lifted her head and who did she ran into, but Omar himself. His shiny black hair in place. she felt the breath rush out from within her, the moment he held her hand to stabilize her and the colorful word that was hanging on her lips died right there.
Lisa knew that this day had to be the worst. Meeting Omar just out of nowhere felt like a jinx to a day that was already moving too slowly for her liking. Moving from him, she scurred towards the large building that was surrounded by impeccable gardens. She felt her heart palpitating vigorously while heat from his touch still lingered on her arm. Struggling to calm down, she slowed down to walk in respectably and the good thing was that she was surprisingly on time.
She had just sat down with the two when eve declared in no uncertain terms that they no longer needed her services because she was not delivering. Her ears were ringing, and the gasp she heard could not have certainly come from her. no, her ears had to be hearing wrong. Not when she had spent all the deposit getting supplies for the event. She felt anger and tears rising within her and her lips trembled for a while before she could take at least three deep calming breaths.
The tears at bay, she turned to the groom who only lifted his shoulders in an I don’t know gesture. Looking at eve, Lisa felt like screaming her head off yet she held back because she knew that her tears would certainly fall the moment, she opened her mouth. And so, with her eyes she pleaded with eve for a second chance but she was shown the door. Feeling defeated and in low spirits, she clamped her feelings tight in her chest, and kept walking without looking.
She could not believe that the very first contract that was supposed to push her to the top had been thwarted and she was broke with no money to pay the rent and any other necessities. She felt the scalding hot tears fall, at firsts in large slow drops and then in a continuous cascade down her cheeks. The sound threatened to come yet she clamped it shut. She was a grown up, she could not afford to cry like a baby. Whoever said that starting a business was ever easy.
It was while she was crossing the road that a shiny black car came to a screeching halt just before her. then Omar Hassan stepped out of the car and pulled her in. get inside the car let me drop you.
No, I will get a cab. I will firsts have to die before I can walk in the same space as you. I hate you
Look, you are walking absent mindedly and at this rate, it is very easy to get hit.
So, what if I am hit what do you care, she said as she stubbornly eased er him.
Damn, you infuriating woman. So impossible. And with that, Omar picked her up while she was flailing her hands and deposited her in the passenger door.
He had just gotten in the driver’s seat when she attempted to open the door. Silently, he locked the doors and bend over her to close the seat belt over her. her red eyes stroke a chord in him and he felt pain in his heart. Somehow, she looked at him suspiciously as though asking what he was doing there.
Feeling his heartbeat sky rocket, he turned away from her and started the car. The drive to her place was in silence until she reached her place. Omar dropped her off and then he went. What could he be playing at, she thought as she walked to her office? Dropping her bags, she locked the door behind her and sat in her chair. Finally unbidden, the tears and the cries came out in the most painful way. What made it even more painful was that Omar had seen her at her worst twice now.
His attention now confused her, the way her hearts got flustered when he got nearby. Yet her sensibilities seemed to warn her by pending an alerting red all over him. Omar could not be up to anything good. Right now, what worried her was not even Omar, no, it was her business. The earliest work she had was five weeks ahead and she had to collect rent and pay the help. Just when she had thought that she was moving on and she was doing well everything just came crumbling.
It was at times like this that her mind was wont to extreme ideas of how to make money and she knew that she had to stay focused. They would survive even though she did not know how. There was no way she would ask for money from her friend. No Alex had given her way too much an she could not stand the self-reproach.
Feeling herself calm, she did not even realize that Marya had arrived until she was knocking on her door. Opening it, she hugged her and her cheerfulness infected her and within a short time, she had regained her spirits at least a bit. At that time, she heard someone, who she very knew who, talking with his very deep baritone to tony. She knew that he would not go away and it was better to go out and talk to him before he saw Marya. Damn, today really was the worst of the days she had ever experienced.
