Chapter 159: Chapter 159

Chapter 161 Did Mom and Dad Sleep Together Last Night?

"Don't you dare interfere in our affairs?" The old bald head licked his mouth contemptuously, but before he had finished he heard the siren came nearer and nearer. He looked at Elly and because of fear, his powerless subordinates stood up. He spits on the ground and called them anxiously.

"Come on, guys!"

Alex was now pinned on the floor by the four thugs. As they heed the order of this bald guy, he was thrown to the ground like a rag. His body could not hold up any longer, his legs hurt, and his arms stretched out. He couldn't stand up, and he could only lie on the ground softly. As he laid on the ground, he was unable to look up at Elly and saw her being held in his arms by Aron.

Angry at the lack of strength of his body, he could not help but breathe a sigh of relief, and Elly's safety was filled with pain on his limbs.

Aron anxiously pulled her hair and asked with concern when he saw the swollen bruise on her forehead. "Are you hurt? Where did they hit you?"

Elly shook her head as her voice trembled. The mob targeted her, but thanks to the protection of Alex Hargreaves, she was not hit.

As she thought of Alex, she couldn't wait to look at him and she was horrified when she saw him laid on the ground. She pushed Aron away in horror. She ran over and lifted him, but because her limbs still wobbled, she can't lift Alex who was too heavy.

"Mr. Hargreaves? Are you okay? Hey, hey!" Elly shouted a few words, but there was no answer. Her face became drenched in tears and she wanted to cry.

"Shut up! I'm not dead. Why are you crying?" Alex hit her face directly on the ground again because he slipped when she tried to lift him and his nose hurt so much that he wanted to swear.

Aron who was next to them finally couldn't stand it. He went to Elly's arm, put Alex's armpit around his shoulder, and carried him on his back.

Through Elly's nervous expression, Alex lived up to expectations and whispered "Thank you!"

"You don't have to do this! I just don't want you to feel like you owe me one."

Alex Hargreaves did not answer and quietly got dragged by Aron towards his car that's been parked far away from them. He put Alex in the back seat. As soon as he got out of the car and tried to transfer to the driver's seat, he found that Elly blew into the car like the wind, supported Alex in time, not letting him fell to the floor.

Elly hugged Alex Hargreaves's back and adjusted his sitting position so that he would not fall. His body was as if there were no bones and all the weight was on her that left her out of breath.

"What are you eating? You're so heavy! Are you so sore in the back that you can't sit up straight? Hey, don't press me."

When he witnessed such a scene, Aron was full of jealousy. He gritted his teeth and closed the car door heavily.

Elly half hugged Alex and carefully kept his back from touching the chair. She did not notice Aron's anger and urged him. "Can you drive to the hospital?" she asked.

"No, no!" Alex opened his swollen eyes and looked at Elly. "Stop the car. I can't go to the hospital under certain circumstances."

After he admitted that he stole the product idea, Alex is still unarmed. He doesn't want the company to be adversely affected by his personal affairs.

"Is the company important or life important? In your mind, work always comes first, doesn't it?" Elly was very annoyed.

Alex gently closed his eyes, and his voice was so low that he didn't know if he had entered her ear.

"In my mind, you are the first priority." He uttered in his voiceless.

Finally, Aron drove back to the Hargreaves's house. He got rid of the thug safe and sound, so he was assured and helped Alex settled into the house who was still completely unconscious. Housekeeper Geno hurriedly called the young master's personal doctor. He was a little surprised when he saw Elly, but his face didn't show it.

When Aron saw that Alex had his own doctor to take care of him so he held her back. He assumed that he has his own doctor and will be examined.

"Let's go."

Elly followed him outside the room. She stood up, bowed her head, and said "I'm sorry, John. I want to stay and take care of him."

Aron stared at her without saying a word, he listened to her request. In his eyes, he doesn't want to misunderstand her or even doubt her intention. She hastily tried to explain. "He was hurt when he saved me. If I take care of him, my conscience will not feel guilty and the sense of debt will be reduced."

"I'll take you to see him early tomorrow morning, okay?" He tried to convince her but only got a sad smile as her response.

John can't sleep even when he got home.

Jealousy engulfed his heart, but he drowned himself with reassurance and patted her on the shoulder.

"I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

Aron left, and the doctor examined Alex. Elly approached them and anxiously inquired. "How is he? Is he badly hurt?"

"Three ribs, lung contusion, liver laceration, leg fracture, skull fracture," James said coldly while he wiped his hands with a towel.

Bang! The door closed. Elly wanted to shed tears, but she was choked by James' next sentence.

"Fortunately, several heroic tricks to save beauties have their endings, but it is a pity that Alex should not have such a beautiful blessing. The injury looked serious, but his subconscious mind took the initiative to avoid the danger when he was beaten. Internal damage, although painful, but not life-threatening. He was exhausted. I sedated him. He slept and will wake up tomorrow."

When the mood was relieved, Elly broke away from his drooping strength and could no longer blame James for his bad jokes. She breathed a sigh of relief.

"Do you hate me?" she asked.

"Do you like people who bring trouble and harm others?" James asked again with a smile. As he saw that Elly's face has turned white, he joked as he tried to ease his boredom.

She didn't care what he said. Instead, she mumbles to herself.

"It's a good thing he's all right, otherwise I'll regret it for the rest of my life."

"I know his character." When James looked up, he saw that she was cold and helpless. "Well, he volunteered to protect you, and you think it's a lifetime debt, which is an insult to his heart."

James looked at his watch and decided to help his friend. "It's very late now, and I have a bad conscience, so I'll stay and take care of him."

He didn't wait for an answer, James walked out of the room with his tools. She was dumbfounded by his firm attitude.

The room became quiet, and she looked at Alex silently. With the way he acted, it changes her perception of him in her mind.

Tonight's fight messed up her head and made her clueless about how to behave. Alex used himself to protect her from danger, responded by holding her tightly in his arms, and shielded her from the whole stick like it was a subconscious instinct that could not be pretended.

As she considered everything he has done to her in the past, from marriage to cohabitation to pregnancy and running away, all these terrible things are contrary to his last night's reaction. A contradiction between his usual self-made her wonder who he really is.

"Why are you protecting me? Is it your strong instinct to protect women, or because...?"

Alex inhaled sedatives and was in a deep sleep. He couldn't hears anything and can't answer Elly's question.

The next morning, Alex squinted his sleepy eyes and walked out of the room. Elly was so busy at the breakfast table that she was stunned with her mouth open. When she woke up, she pinched herself. It must not be an illusion, and she shouted loudly. "Kitten!"

When the familiar voice called, Elly turned around and was tightly clasped by a short figure. Kitten rubbed his face on her leg and smiled contentedly. "It's not a dream. I'm so happy to see you when I woke up. Mom! Mom!"

As a strong feeling surged inside her heart, her hands trembled slightly. She hurriedly put down the food, hugged Kitten, and sat on the chair. She kissed him on the cheek and pushed the breakfast in front of him. "After breakfast at the nursery, Gerald will take you to school, okay?"

"The teacher is ill today. Can I stay at home instead of going to school?" Kitten asked innocently with a spoon in his mouth.

Elly choked up and asked. "How did you know that the teacher is ill?"

"Guess what, mom? Can I drop out today? I want to stay home with you."

When she finished wiping the corners of his mouth with the residue of porridge, she shook her head solemnly. "Good boy, don't play truant. Gerald is waiting outside the car. You continue to eat."

Kitten curled his lips and shoveled into his mouth the porridge. He contemplated for a moment and found that something was strange. He turned left and right as he tried to find someone.

"Why does Gerald is the one who'll send me to school? Won't you personally take me to class every day? Where's dad?"

Elly hesitated and didn't want to worry Kitten. If he saw that his father is hurt, he would be distressed.

"You're lying. Dad drank some wine yesterday and was still sleeping in his room." Elly doesn't want Kitten to harass him.

As the translucent spoon glittered, it fell into the bowl and his eyes glinted with excitement.

"I know. Did mom sleep with dad again last night? You've been drinking, so dad's asleep again, right?"

Elly felt that her head ached in what Kitten presumed. A five-year-old's mind was poisoned by TV programs. She dared not to find another excuse to give him a chance to fantasize and simply do what he wanted. Her baby is the smartest. No one can be kept from him.

Kitten smiled briskly. He smiled smugly and victoriously. "You know, I love you so much. Mom will let Dad love her again. We'll even become a family, right?"

The thought of a complete family was interrupted when he rubbed her hand that made her stop her train of thoughts. She was silent for a few seconds and nodded.

"Hooray! That's great!" Kitten laughed happily and ate porridge with a spoon, unaware that his mother was looking at him with complicated eyes.

Elly stood in the doorway and watched Gerald drove Kitten to school. She had no appetite, so she stood there quietly.

Suddenly, from the second floor came the cheerful screams of the butler Geno. "Master, it's a good thing you're awake."

With a bang, Elly hurriedly ran upstairs and went into the bedroom. He saw Alex looked sideways towards the door, and the stone in her chest was finally carried out.

With the help of the housekeeper, Alex sat up slowly and leaned his back against the wall of the bed. "Keep your voice down. Housekeeper Geno, you go out first."

The butler Geno left cleverly, and there were only two people left in the room.

When he realized that his lips were dry and her instinct to take care of others was too much for Elly. She quickly poured him a glass of warm water. "Drink some water, Alex."

"Thank you!" Alex reached for the cup. Intentionally wrapped her hand in his big hand, he said hesitantly. "Sorry! But I didn't mean to let go."

With she pulled her hands away, Elly moved slightly. Because of her movements, Alex accidentally bumped into the headboard, it touched the wound on his back. His forehead wrinkled. He took a deep breath and his body leaned a little as if he was about to pour out. She eagerly supported her ex-husband, chattered endlessly in her subconscious. "If you can't hold the cup by yourself, tell me okay?"

When she moved out of his sight, Alex opened his mouth gently. He put his chin on her shoulder and told her in a sad tone. "I thought you left last night."

His tone didn't seem to be his usual tone, albeit it still tickled her neck. Elly is not used to it.

"Of course, I'll go. But if I'll do, you might say that I have no conscience. Just eat porridge and lay cross the plank bridge."

Elly told a long story which made Alex laughs so much that the wound on his back was touched again, and he secretly frowned because of the pain. No matter what happened last night, he secretly thanked the physical wound, which gave them two a chance to speak as freely as they did now. It's worth it.

It hurts. She realized that he laughed at her, but she didn't found it annoying. She just jokingly cursed and held him against the soft pillow behind him.

Alex hurriedly shook her hand, showed a simple and honest smile. "Are you worried about me?"

She wanted to pull her hand back but feared that she would be hurt. She bit her lip instead and said that there were two suspicious red marks on her cheeks.

"Considering the reason for your injury, I don't want you to fall and let your wound open over time." She answered.
