Chapter 153: Chapter 153

Chapter 155: Who Was the Target of the "Accident?"

The caller's report was just as Alex speculated. On important occasions, there are often investigators to check carefully and constantly confirm information towards a crime scene. Sometimes those people don't do enough. Alex made personal moves before booking his flight to see Gerald. He hired a private investigator to review what went on.

Alex asked coldly through the phone, "Have you seen the surveillance footage at the scene?"

"I checked, but..." The private investigator hesitated and it was difficult for him to answer.

"What the hell is going on? Say it!"

His impatient tone made the private eye tremble in his answer. "All line surveillance equipment has been checked, but the camera has been directed to the modified mark angle, a deleted distance. It cannot be restored."

"What?" Alex was shocked and his eyes became incredibly large.

From Gerald's accident to Alex's hiring of a private investigation, somebody has approached the on-site security monitor in a ten-minute timeframe. "Who can delete surveillance video in such a short time?"

"Another party must be responsible for on-site monitoring to confirm the identity of those present at the time."

Alex felt like he lost his last hope.

The private investigator seemed to be familiar with the personnel arrangements. "The time of the incident coincided with the time of shift change of the monitoring personnel. After the accident, people flocked to the scene, it was very chaotic. The killer had to be in the surveillance room."

After listening to the analysis, Alex felt that the assumed murder plan has been made tediously, which led to an impasse in the process of investigating the truth.

Alex's eagle eyes glowed dangerously, and he muttered to himself when he remembered Elly's words. "Was it really an accident?"

The news of Gerald's accident spread all over the city, and Emily was not too surprised by the news.

"I heard that the billboard fell on his head. Must have been terrible."

"From rumors I heard he's in a coma now, right?"

"Although Gerald's cases were usually confidential, the man had a good ability to work. Such a pity."

Hearing colleagues talking one after another, Emily covered her nose and muttered in a low voice. "Brandon really bit the bullet by taking him on the business trip. I don't know if he was involved or not." Emily said.

"Ms. Emily, what did you just say?" The colleague sitting next to her asked suspiciously, as she heard her vague statements, but could not hear the details clearly.

Emily was surprised to think her co-workers could hear her, but luckily it wasn't audible enough.

She shook her head and smiled gently, "What was that? I didn't say anything."

Unknowingly passing by Gerald's desk, Emily glanced in its direction and felt sad.

Gerald was just a victim, and it was a pity to see him in the position that he was at.

But she soon calmed down her fragility. At that moment, she felt too vulnerable and unable to protect herself. The most important thing was to keep herself out of trouble, otherwise she would be the next to get into an accident.

Because he wanted to talk to Brandon in the hotel, Alex specially hired a caregiver to watch over Gerald. He needed time to go back to the hotel and take care of something.

He went straight to Brandon's hotel room, but as it was getting late, he was hesitant to interrupt by knocking on the door. Brandon must have been very tired staying at the hospital and could be sleeping.

However, as soon as he turned around and was ready to leave, Alex heard a sound from the door. It opened and a stranger came out of the room.

At the moment of seeing Alex, the man looked embarrassed and quickly walked away to the stairs.

Alex looked at the man's abnormal anxious attitude and suspected that a stranger mistaken Brandon's room for his.

The door was still open, and he pushed inside without knocking.

Brandon was sitting on the sofa in the living room with his back to the door when he said with haste, "Why did you come back?"

Realizing that the person who entered the room was Alex, he quickly swallowed the words, his smile was stiff and unnatural, and his speech was quite confused. "Alex, what's wrong? Why aren't you at the hospital? Do you want me to watch over Gerald earlier? Are you staying in this hotel, too? You could've called me and let me know. You didn't have to worry about it directly."

Because of the shock, Brandon did not hide the panic expression in his eyes. Alex had no intention to expose it.

He asked with a smile after a deliberate glance at the door, "I just saw a man coming out of your room. I've never seen him before."

"Alright, alright." Brandon sat on the sofa and told Alex to sit down. "He is my buddy. I waited for him to get off work recently. After being a part of the incident, I was afraid that I would be depressed, so him and I had a chat."

Alex had no doubt or discomfort on his face, but nodded to show that he already knew. Seeing that he didn't ask any more questions, the nervousness of Brandon slowly went away. He quickly changed the subject and took the initiative to ask about Gerald's situation. "What'll happen with Gerald when you go home?"

"I arranged a nursing service, and they were more considerate than both of us." Alex sat back down on the sofa, saw the wine on the table and stared softly. "Have you been drinking? Why don't you get more rest?"

"Every time I close my eyes, the scene of Gerald lying in a pool of blood emerges again, clearly. He rushed in desperately to push me out, as if it was all in slow motion. I thought wine would help me get drunk, but the more sober I was, I couldn't dispel the tragedy in my head."

"I don't care if you can't really sleep." Alex said bluntly. "The billboard was faulty, and there are signs of sabotage, did you know?"

"What?" Brandon sprang to his feet and stammered with fear. "Was there someone who wanted to hurt me?"

Alex shrugged. "I have no idea."

Alex looked at his face and relaxed. "This matter has yet to be investigated. I'll inform you as soon as I receive more news. It's getting late. You should get that rest now."

Brandon frowned and watched helplessly as Alex stood up and walked towards the door. When he got to the door, he suddenly stopped, turned and said in a louder voice, "There may also be people who wanted to hurt Gerald, too."

Leaving a faint word, Alex immediately closed the door of the room and let Brandon sit on the sofa in horror. Brandon couldn't understand it. He was full of doubts, and no one knew what to think.

After the doctor's debriefing, Elly learned that Gerald had passed a critical period of certainty, and his vegetable state was looking more confirmed.

Aaron's work made it impossible for her to stay in the US longer, so the two decided to return home.

After arriving in their home country, Elly launched an advertising project with Hargreaves Company. The video script of the advertisement has been perfected and filming will begin soon after the selection of actors and models.

Walking into the Hargreaves Company building, Elly did not rush to Alex's office. She first went to Emily's.

"Come in." Emily sounded after the knock at the door.

As soon as he saw Elly coming in happily, Emily stopped what she was doing.

Elly's attitude was natural, and she put a cake on the table with a sweet and friendly voice. "I bought it for you specially before I came in. The last time we saw each other, I spoke heavily because I mistook you for the wrong person."

Emily glanced at the lovely pastry in the cardboard box and smiled. "Thank you! And no, it didn't matter. I didn't mind at all. Are you coming to city hall today?"

"Yes, I'm going to discuss the project in a conference now. Would you like to have lunch this afternoon? I don't want to have lunch alone in a strange environment."

Elly humorously offered an invitation and looked at Emily acting like a shy stranger. A year ago, she pretended to be friendly and deceived your faith, but now she has lost her memory and destroyed all relationships. Life is always unpredictable.

Emily with amnesia was a naive and friendly pure person, so it was obvious she wouldn't refuse.

At noon, after Elly was done with her busy work, the two talked and laughed openly in front of the company staff and went out for lunch together.

Elly was a company colleague, and Emily was a hospitable manager. The friendship of the two has aroused a lot of conversation within the building.

During lunch, Emily was very shy in the course of eating, and it wasn't easy for her to have lunch. Elly, on the other hand, chatted while eating, with a gentle attitude, just like two new friends.

Seeing Emily put down her fork, Elly couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong? Does it not taste right?"

"No, there's something wrong with my stomach. I'll be alright though. It's rude of me, but I have to ask. As a manager, this meal is on me, okay? " Emily tried to be natural, hospitable and friendly.

Elly stopped Emily from calling a waitress, and there was an anxious expression on her face.

"Don't be so nice, you're not feeling well. We can leave so you can rest your stomach. Would you like me to buy you some medicine for it?"

"No, I have medicine in my office. Enjoy your lunch." Emily smiled and apologized, putting her bag on her shoulder in a guilty voice. "I'm sorry. Let's meet some other time."

Elly smiled and said goodbye. Emily's back was seen leaving out the restaurant door, which was also the time when her sparkling eyes gradually faded away.

Ms. Emily Russel was just getting started.
