Chapter 137: Chapter 137
Chapter 139 The Result of Gossip
Elly said he didn't think. "Why are you here? Where is Secretary Gerald?" She remembered it clearly; the person who answered the phone said that Secretary Gerald was the one going to come, she was surprised by Alex's sudden appearance.
"Did I really disappoint you so much that you want to see my secretary instead?"
Elly was going to nod, but when she met Alex's sad eyes, she hesitated.
Alex's eyes showed a look of disappointment when he saw that she didn't want to answer.
"Come on, I'm here to talk business today. I won't embarrass you."
Alex had a serious expression on his face; the two sat opposite to each other, and the work had been carried out seriously. The atmosphere was so calmed, to the point where Elly felt it was unreal. She never thought that she could discuss work calmly with Alex.
Of course, it was only in her mind; she would never voice out her thoughts about that scene.
"Oh my God! Isn't that person is the chairman of our company?" All of a sudden, a man near the company exclaimed in admiration.
The skeptical and smug voices of those who were walking forward made Elly's nauseous every time she heard them. Laura, the last woman in her company Elly would want to communicate with; she was the former secretary of Aron; she had been transferred to the personnel Department.
From the day Elly joined the company, Laura despised her and constantly made trouble for her. Aron found out that she had been causing trouble for Elly, and sent her to the personnel department. For this reason, Laura held a grudge against Elly.
When she went down to the cafe to buy drinks, she accidentally saw Elly walking with a man; although she did not see the man's appearance and only the back view, Laura knew that it was not Aron. She had worked with Chairman Aron for two years and was at least familiar with his body.
When Alex heard her sarcastic remarks, he frowned and his eyes turned cold.
Unaware of the imminent danger, Laura came over and continued to laugh. "You are such a cunning woman. If Chairman Aron will know that you are the kind of woman who seduce men, do you think he will still want a wife like you?"
"I am meeting with the partners of the company right now. You should be careful of what you say. Please don't disturb us." Elly saw clearly that Alex's face was getting worse and worse; she tried to persuade Laura to leave before he exploded into a demon.
Unfortunately, Laura was not sensitive to danger. The more she talked, the more aggressive she became. "It turns out that our design director Leila has a close relationship with men in the cafe, and talking to them is also counted as working."
That sarcastic remarks offended Elly, but before she could anything, Alex stood up and turned around.
The sense of danger rang the alarm bell in Elly's heart. She had a bad premonition on what was going to happen.
A cracked appeared on Laura's smug face when she met with the murderous expression on Alex's face.
She always saw Alex's face often appeared in magazines; she recalled the rumors of the frightening forces behind the other person. Laura regretted it so much. She wanted to turned back time and cut her throat with a knife for daring to mess with Leila.
"It's too late to say anything now. You easily infuriates other people and ruin their jobs and lives." The idea of kneeling on the ground and beg Alex's forgiveness formed in Laura's mind. Her legs were shaking and her lips trembled, she stuttered "I didn't know that Leila was doing business with you. This is just a misunderstanding"
Alex interrupted her coldly, not interested to hear her explanation. "Take back what you just said about Leila!"
His orders made her afraid to refuse, but she did not say a word right away. She clenched her hands hesitantly; she was afraid to hear his voice again so, she said, "Everyone in the company said that Leila and Chairman Aron were married."
"Married?" Alex repeated in a hoarse voice, he glanced at the skeptical Elly. "When did you marry him? Have you married certificate?"
Elly thought that she was being slandered by baseless rumor; she didn't know how to explain it, nor did she wanted to explain it.
Laura felt the stuffy atmosphere and asked hesitantly, "Mr. Hargreaves... Chairman Hargreaves... I won't disturb your work anymore. Can I go first?"
Alex roared at Laura to scram; she did not dare to stay longer and immediately ran away, disappeared from Alex's ferocious eyes.
The noise caused by Alex was very loud, and many people in the coffee shop looked at them curiously. Elly coughed awkwardly and in a very low voice she said, "All right, let's sit down and talk."
"Tell me, when did things get to this point?" Alex pretended that he did not hear her, and asked straight to the point.
"Considering your doubts, if you don't have an answer, you can never leave the house again. But if you don't have a rational explanation today, you can't get out of here intact." Alex said in a serious tone.
Elly answered bluntly that she would not hide it. "That is just a rumor circulating in the company, the information is not true, I am not married with Aron."
The furious heart became comfortable again when Alex heard her answer, he felt relieved. He did not continue to go against her, nor embarrassed her in front of many people, so he sat down slowly; although his eyes were still cold and oppressive.
Alex took advantage of the situation to continue to attack. "If there is no fire, there would be no smoke. what must the rumor be based on? what is your relationship with Aron? I heard you're getting engaged?"
Elly stopped from drinking the coffee in her hand; luckily, she has not drank yet, otherwise she would have choked to death. "Where did you hear that?"
"Is that a rumor? I don't think so." It was difficult for Alex to say that. "I heard Aron talks with someone on the phone saying that he will marry you soon and you will give birth to a child soon."
Elly felt dizzy. Her promised to help Aron was gradually moved in an uncontrollable direction, and things were starting to get so messy and worse that she did not know how to explain.
Elly raised her eyes in horror and couldn't take her eyes off from Alex's accusing eyes, he suddenly laughed. "I didn't expect you to be so attentive to the people you care about. You like Aron so much that don't want to get your own son back. "
Elly turned pale when he mentioned Kitten. She was distressed and as if her heart were being crushed. The scene from the other day, where she could not take her eyes from Kitten submerged in her mind.
"Yesterday I had seen how sad Kitten was, before I realized how much harm you had done to the child. He's glad you're back, but he did not expect to be rejected by his own mother. What a poor, poor child." Alex words was like a knife that pierced her heart.
She always felt a pain in her heart when she remembers her son. Elly asked instinctively. "The child is starting to hate me, isn't he?"
"No, no." Alex smiled mockingly and his voice turned colder than usual. "Well, I didn't tell him the truth. I told the kid that Aron is your boss, and if he will know that you have a child, the company would fire you. Kitten also promised that if he meets you again, he would pretend not to know you."
The glare on his eyes were fixed on Elly and slowly said, "Do you know why? Because Kitten liked you, he didn't want you to be sad because you lost your job. He is just a five-year-old child who thought better than you. You can safely finish your play."
Elly bit her lower lip and kept silent.
Alex sneered when he saw her attitude. "A year ago, you ran away from home without saying goodbye to your own son. When you came back a year later, you denied having a relationship with him. It's a pity that Kitten love a mother like you."
It was hard for Elly to say his name. She took a deep breath, gathered her courage and said, "Apologize to Kitten for me. I am his mother, and I owe her so much. If it hadn't been for the car accident, I wouldn't have left her."
"I won't tell him your message." Alex refused firmly, but was startled when he realized that something was wrong and squinted his eyes. "You remember something, right?"
The coffee cup was put down on the table, and her shaky hands could no longer hold. Elly looked up, and the light of hatred flashed quickly on her eyes. "Why don't you answer your own question? What happened? Are you afraid I'll remember anything?"
"Scared on answering? go on. All in all, I don't want to pursue anything else. I just want to ask you, what does John's death have to do with you?"
"Why do you ask? Do you suspect that Zion's death had something to do with me?" Alex could not believe what he had just heard, and he frowned.
Knowing that she would not get what she wanted, Elly smiled lightly. "The second question is, where is Emily?"
"I told you, she was punished. Why are you not believing me?" Alex was not defending Emily, let alone pitied her. He felt guilty about Peter; and in the end, his tacit understanding of Emily made it impossible for him to point the finger at her. He chose to let go for his friend's sake.
Alex refused to say the whereabouts of Emily. Elly's face showed her disappointment.
"I'm not going to answer either of these questions."
