Chapter 111: Chapter 111
Chapter 113 Two punches
When Elly opened the door after the bell rang, she saw John outside, carrying a large bag as if he had just swept the supermarket.
"What did you buy?"
Under Elly's puzzled eyes, John walked straight in, put the big bag on the table and sighed. "Why do you live so far from the shopping center? Is it convenient for you to go to work? I see that the bus stop was far away from here."
John looked at Elly and scolded her. "I thought you said you only wanted to stay away from the city. It's different from the suburbs. There are no people around, and the houses are far apart. It is very unsafe." John took great pains to look for this kind of things and shook his head disgruntled. "Kitchenette, simple furniture, small bathroom, is there a balcony? No, you shouldn't live here."
When she saw that he was being dismissive, Elly shook her head in defense. "Well, it's not as bad as you said. There's a good walking time in the morning and the bus runs right across the company. The air in the suburbs is not polluted by smoke. I am used to living in a spacious house, so I live comfortably, looking at some simple things that I will not get used to."
She thought her tone was a little harsh, so she smiled and told him the truth. "I know, you're worried about me, but I'm living in a rented room based on the money I earn. I'm very happy and I'm very contented. I pay this room with the money I earned by myself and it makes me very happy."
When he realized that he would not be able to shake Elly's decision, John sighed and decided that he would not force her. He took the food bag to the refrigerator and put it away. He bought so much food that it could not fit in the refrigerator, he was embarrassed. He turned his head and looked at Elly to ask for help.
"OK, I'll be the one to put it inside and I'll clean it." Elly smiled and put the cup on top of the table.
John picked up the glass of water but he did not drink it. He asked a question that lingered in his heart. "Are you really all right? You just recently got discharged from the hospital."
"Don't treat me like a child." Elly looked at him and smiled. She felt that she was cared for by a relative, she was really happy. "You took the initiative to change the subject. Why did you go to the hospital so late?"
"I was drowsy. I just walked around." She answered him, but John's eyes sparkled and his voice was unnatural.
These unusual gestures would not easily pass through John's watchful eyes she guessed with a frown. "Do you want to have another fight with me?"
His silence made her guess more correct, Elly sighed helplessly and gently persuaded him. "So, haven't you and your mother talked to each other after all these years? You have just returned from America for a few days. Why are you so annoying? You should treat your mother with love."
"My mother was forced to call Sarah and asked her to return home." Sarah was very busy at work either. She wanted to rest, he explained but his wayward mother did not listen.
As she heard the cordial voice in John's tone, she felt that her heart was filled with indescribable ripples.
"You're always worried. You should know your mother's mind."
No sooner had she finished speaking, when a knock was heard on the door. The two looked at each other in surprise. John frowned and asked. "Who do you think that person is?"
"It could be a neighbor. I just moved here recently. No one knew this address." Elly stood up and opened the door.
John followed because he was worried for her safety. Especially, in the middle of the night because this place was uninhabited.
The open door revealed the person outside. Elly said in surprise. "Mrs. Elliot?"
Mrs. Elliot's face was full of hatred, her eyes were fierce, and her lips formed a straight line.
"Are you spying on me?" John's face darkened because he was followed unnoticed.
Mrs. Elliot didn't care about her son and pushed him out of her way. She did not let anyone react. Mrs. Elliot raised her hand and hit Elly, across the face.
"Bitch!"
Because she hadn't fully recovered from the accident yet, she didn't have time to get out of the way and her head got hit against the door.
"Mom! What are you doing?" He was frightened for Elly and he tried to grab Mrs. Elliot's hands, but she shouted and startled him.
"Do you want to hit me?" John heard her scream and he continued to push himself in between the two of ladies. Mrs. Elliot turned to Elly, who was still dizzy, tugged at the hand that was clasping her cheek and slapped her in the same place. This caused blood in the corners of Elly's mouth.
"This slap was on behalf of your parents. You are a terrible woman to take a man to your room during the night." Ms. Elliot pointed to Elly and said loudly.
"Mom, stop." John pulled Elly into his arms and was furious with his mother. With pain in his eyes he asked her with a voice full of concern. "Elly, are you all right?"
Her face hurt so much and Elly was so angry that she burst into tears. She shook her head in complete disbelief.
When she looked at Elly's stubborn face, Ms. Elliot became cold. "I wonder where you put it at night, so you call it. Aren't you ashamed to take in another girl's fiancée?"
"Mom, you misunderstood. I came to see her myself. " John stood in front of Elly as he explained to Ms. Elliot while he blocked the curious eyes of the onlookers.
The screams of the three of them awakened the neighbors and more people came over to watch the happenings outside their door.
"Elly, go inside and have a rest. I will bring my mom back home first". John was afraid for her image and respectability in her new neighborhood, he did not want her to run into a lot of trouble living here.
Elly nodded and under the strange eyes of her neighbors, she bit her lower lip. She hated her very much.
John came over and tried to put his arms around Mrs. Elliot's shoulder but she held on and continued to point at Elly to scold her.
"What? I'm right, isn't it?" She asked in a high-pitched voice.
"Shut up!" The violent situation attracted a lot of neighbors and a lot of them came. The pressure of the sound was enough to make people shiver and they automatically separated.
Alex' face was cold and his eyes were sharp. He could not take his eyes off the scenery around him.
Elly suddenly wanted to cry, her body was trembling and the person she didn't want to see now was Alex. She shed tears when she was awkwardly exposed to him.
Mrs. Elliot frowned. Why did Alex knew her address?
Alex did not notice John. He came to Elly, clutched her chin with his thumb and forefinger and leaned left and right to observe her red cheeks.
He rubbed the drop of blood on the corner of her mouth with his thumb and suddenly licked it. The slow movement made Elly's heart beat like a drum. Her face and neck were as red as tomatoes.
Elly felt ill!
Alex stared at Mrs. Elliot, his voice full of danger. "You hit her?"
Mrs. Elliot was not able accept the look Alex gave her. After all, she was older than him. Mrs. Elliot of the Elliot family. No matter how bad Alex' character was, she was not afraid.
Mrs. Elliot admitted arrogantly. "I did. Any problems? Women always try their best to get into bed with the rich and powerful and that is acceptable. What is wrong with this woman is that she tried to seduce someone else's boyfriend."
Mrs. Elliot's sarcasm made John's face pale. He carefully observed Elly's face, he took his mother's hand and persuaded her. "What are you talking about? Come on. I'll take you home."
John confronted his mother but he was afraid to hurt her and dared not to use his strength.
The atmosphere was even more awkward because many neighbors covered their mouths and gossiped.
When Alex came up to her, he asked her coldly.
"Did you just slap Elly?"
"Yes. I slapped her face, so what?"
"You insulted her, didn't you?"
Ms. Elliot frowned when she was questioned like a criminal and her chest burned with so much anger. "Right. I'm just telling the truth, what's the problem?"
Before her statement finished, Alex slapped Mrs. Elliot in the face. It was so suddenly that everyone was stunned.
Elly was startled and hurried over to stop him. "Alex, you can't."
Mrs. Elliot was stupefied for two seconds but she reacted quickly. She punched Alex in the face.
Mrs. Elliot's second punch was stopped by Alex.
"I was not able to dodge the first punch because I was focused on Elly's face. Don't think you can just do whatever you want. With the small power you have, I can easily break you."
When Mrs. Elliot heard this, she pounced on Alex in horror and tried to save her son. She was thrown by him and she hit the wall.
Elly took a few steps from Alex and she watched helplessly as he shook Elliot's hand and confused him.
"Your fists are useless. What did you do when the person you promised to protect was slapped in front of you?" Alex asked and John's face was drained of blood. He became pale instant.
Ms. Elliot found that her pride was insulted and she dared to slap Alex. He reacted quickly, he clutched her wrist and frowned at her with hatred evident on his eyes.
"Get out of here!" Mrs. Elliot cried. Surprisingly, Alex appeared to be knowledgeable and courteous, but inside he was nothing but a hypocrite. "I'm older than you, don't you have any respect for the elderly?"
Alex seemed to hear a joke and he smiled coldly. "I am a kind of person who respects the old and loves the young. That is, if that person deserved to be respected also." Alex deliberately lowered his head and gazed into her frightened eyes in a dreary tone. "No, you're not worth my respect."
After Alex released Mrs. Elliot's hands, he took a towel out of his pocket and wiped his hands gently as if he had just touched something dirty.
Mrs. Elliot was enraged because of the insult and she fought back with clenched teeth. "I scolded her and beat her because I wanted to teach her a lesson. Your fiancée must have invited a man at her house during the night. Don't you think the horns on her head are too long? Or did you volunteer to be treated like this?"
"So, she's a girl who stole someone else's fiancée.
"Why does such a beautiful girl live in such a desolate place? Maybe it was because she does not want her fiancée to discover her affairs."
The neighbors whispered.
Ms. Elliot's words were not true, but her neighbors was quick to judge. Elly bit her lips and uncontrollable tears streamed down her face. Ms. Elliot was a member of the Elliot family and she never wanted him to be embarrassed like this.
Alex' next move surprised everyone around him.
He wrapped his arms around Elly's waist, raised her chin and looked at the eyes, his hoarse voice lingered in her ears.
"What do you want to eat?" Alex gave her small kisses gently wiped the tears on her face.
Alex felt that Elly was so cute more so when her body trembled, Alex added kisses to the rest of the face.
When he looked up at Mrs. Elliot, he said slowly with a murderous expression in his face, "Your son was the one who appeared in my fiancée's house."
