At Night

Orni was lying on her bed and shedding tears silently. It's almost midnight but there is no sleep in her eyes. Her mind was replaying VR's behaviour in front of her eyes and she was hurt beyond level.

" I shouldn't have worn such a short dress but still it doesn't give him the right to mistreat me like that. I thought he loves me," She thought with a heavy heart soaking the pillow with her tears.

After coming home she took a long shower and scrubbed her body to remove the bruises but it worsen. She was feeling so bad and helpless at that time which she can't describe in words. Having no one to talk with she wore her PJ and went to the bed. She didn't even have her dinner. Sanjay tried hard to feed her but she refused.

Orni was still shedding tears when she felt a soft hand over her shoulder. She looked beside her and a smile appeared on her face.

" Ma," she called and hugged that woman who came to meet her previously.

The woman asked affectionately hugging her back," What happened to my baby? Why are you crying like that?"

" Am I a bad girl, Ma?" Orni asked the woman and hiccupped in her chest.

The woman broke the hug and replied wiping away her tears," Who says that you are a bad girl!! You are my most precious baby and you are a very good girl."

Orni forced a smile on her face when the woman noticed a few red marks on Orni's cheeks. The woman became worried seeing the marks and carefully looked at Orni's neck which has a lot of red marks too. Orni tried to cover them up with her dress but the woman already noticed.

" What's all this, baby? How did you get these marks all over your neck?" The woman interrogated like a CBI officer.

Orni lied looking down," It's nothing, Ma."

" I want a proper answer," The woman inquired holding Orni's shoulder tightly.

Orni again lied with teary eyes," I fought with Natasha and that's how I got all these marks."

Orni didn't tell her mother everything thinking that she will be disappointed in her and stop coming to meet her. Orni is insecure and scared of telling the truth to her parents. She isn't understanding that parents are our best friends and we shouldn't hide our problems from them.

" You are lying," The woman said and Orni bit her lower lip.

To divert this topic she requested to her mother," Ma, please I want to sleep. Can you sing a lullaby for me? "

Looking at Orni's innocent eyes and pleading voice the woman couldn't ask anything further. She just sighed and Orni placed her head on that woman's lap.

" Ma, why don't you show me your face? I want to see you," Orni asked looking at the woman's face which was covered with a shawl.

Yes, the woman always comes to meet Orni covering her face. For some unknown reason, she doesn't want Orni to see her face. Orni's father always told her that her mother is dead and she hallucinate about her. But, only Orni believes that her mother is alive and comes to meet her every weekend.

The woman replied stroking Orni's bangs," I can't show my face to you right now. But, I promise that one day I will let you see me."

" I will wait for that day very eagerly," Orni said hugging the woman's waist tightly.

After that, the woman started singing a lullaby and Orni closed her eyes. She felt peace in her mother's embrace, she felt her mother's melodious voice soothing her racing nerves. She forgot about VR resting her head on her mother's lap. Very soon she drifted into a deep sleep having a smile on her face.

Then, the woman placed Orni's head on the pillow and covered her body with a blanket. She wanted to check Orni's body to understand what's wrong but thinking about something she didn't proceed.

She noticed her wristwatch and said sighing," I have to leave."

Saying that she left Orni's room silently. Before leaving she again looked at Orni's sleeping face and a tear rolled down her eyes. Wiping the tear she just left hurriedly.

After some time, Orni's father Sanjay entered Orni's room and found her sleeping in a weird position. It's Orni's habit to crawl on the whole bed while sleeping.

" This girl will remain a baby always," Sanjay whispered and walked towards the bed.

Placing Orni's head on the pillow, he covered her body with a blanket and sat beside her. He stared at her and noticed the red marks on her cheeks.

" I just hope you will share your problem with me," He said caressing her cheeks very gently and kissing her forehead.

After exhaling some breaths he whispered stroking her hair," You might not be my real daughter but I love you more than anything else in this world. I still remember the day when I held you in my arms. You were tiny like a kitten and the moment you opened your eyes, I was completely overwhelmed. You are my daughter, my little Orni."

After two days

" Orni, I am sorry. I never thought that your boyfriend will react like that," Natasha apologized to Orni.

Orni answered back meekly," It's ok. I also didn't think that Vijendra will react like that."

Well, it's been two days since that incident. Orni didn't attend school for two days because her body didn't allow her. She didn't even leave her room. The pain of her body has gone away but the marks are still there. For the past two days, she didn't talk to VR. Her phone was switched off making him crazy for her.

Then, Natasha said putting salt on Orni's wounds," Don't you think your boyfriend is too possessive? How can he slap you in front of everyone? I thought he was a gentleman but truth to be told he is a beast."

" Let's go back to the class," Orni told ignoring Natasha's words and started leaving the canteen.

Before she could leave the canteen, a boy from another section stopped her. She looked at the boy and recognized him. A few days ago she has accepted his request on Facebook and even chatted with him.

" Orni, I want to say something to you," The boy said with hopeful eyes.

Orni replied with questioning eyes," Yes, tell me, Pratik."

" Orni, I had been noticing you for a few days and I have to admit that you are the sweetest, beautiful and kind girl I have ever met. I saw you dancing at a cultural event and from that day I couldn't sleep properly at night. Only your thoughts were bothering me and I understood that I will go crazy without you. Will you be my girlfriend?" Pratik proposed holding a flower and sitting on his knees.

Orni stumbled back a little by his action and blinked her eyes repeatedly. She gulped down her saliva nervously and remembered about VR. She is already worried about VR and now this drama.

On the other hand, everyone started whispering and some of the students started taking photos of this drama. Pratik's friends started whistling and clapping their hands to cheer him up.

Natasha mumbled seeing all this," Side effect of being so beautiful. Don't the boys see anyone else except her? First, Rohan, then Vijendra Randhawa and now Pratik!!! Gosh!!"

Orni was silent when Natasha came forward and taunted Pratik," Oh, hello Mr Romeo!! She has a boyfriend and you should back away. If her boyfriend comes to know about you then..............."

" Pratik, I am sorry for hurting your feelings. Honestly saying, I am not interested. Please, leave me alone," Orni answered interrupting Natasha and running away from here.

Pratik was obviously hurt by her behaviour but he didn't mind. He respected her opinion and thought to move on.

Orni just came out of her school and started walking towards her home. She is upset and today was a hectic day for her. Every day VR would drop her home but today she didn't wait for him.

She was walking lazily on the road when from nowhere 5/6 people surrounded her. Those people were wearing bear costumes and all of them were holding placards.

She became startled by their presence and looked at her surroundings nervously. She noticed their costumes with surprised eyes and became shocked seeing the placards. There was written 'Sorry' on every placard.

" Who are you?" She asked them but they didn't respond.

Suddenly, a car halted right in front of her and she knew whose car it is. It was none other than VR's car. Seeing the car she tried to leave the place but couldn't as she was surrounded.

She looked at the car annoyingly when VR came out of the car. Orni's eyes widened with pure shock noticing his appearance. Her mouth is now hung open seeing him in a bear costume.

VR showed a placard to Orni which contains the words," I am sorry, angel."

Actually, it was Akash's idea to convince Orni. VR wasn't agreeing to wear bear costume but he had to agree at last only for her sake. Moreover, he was losing his mind without her and thought to do anything to convince her again.

" Let me go," Orni said and tried to leave but VR stopped her and she looked at him angrily.

VR removed the bear head and held his ears in an apologizing manner. He looked at her with puppy dog eyes and apologized," I am sorry, angel. I am really sorry for hurting you."

Seeing his puppy dog eyes, Orni almost giggle but somehow she controlled herself. She again tried to leave when he held her hand and hugged her from behind.



" Angel, don't leave me, please. I don't have anyone except you. You are my everything. I am sorry for hurting you like that. I didn't want to but I couldn't control my anger. I just can't tolerate when people look at you with lustful eyes. Please, try to understand my perspective," VR told emotionally and Orni started crying.

She broke the hug and said timidly," You shouldn't have insulted me. Do you know how I felt whenever you called me dirty names?"

" Then, what about me, angel? Have you ever thought about my feelings? I told you clearly about my likes and dislikes. But, still, you kept doing mistakes. First, tell me how you will feel if I started showing my body to some random women and they look at me with desires in their eyes?" VR asked and Orni started getting emotional.

She answered with her trembling voice," I won't like it."

" Exactly. You won't like it just like me who can't tolerate other men around you. You are only my angel. No one else's," VR said and Orni just stared into his eyes which were full of sadness.

She noticed his face carefully and understood that he wasn't sleeping properly. She can feel the genuine regret in him and melt like ice cream.

" Forgive me, my baby angel. Please. I love you a lot. Don't push me away from you," VR begged and Orni couldn't control her emotions anymore.

She hugged him tightly and he also hugged her back. He kissed her head very softly and she closed her eyes. It's the second mistake she has done by accepting him again.

They looked at each other and not being able to control their emotions, they started kissing each other.

They didn't even bother about their surroundings and started sucking each other's lips crazily. Luckily, there weren't many people on the road.

" I love you too," Orni whispered between this passionate kiss and VR tightened his hold around her petite waist.

They were kissing each other unknown to the fact that a man has seen them. And, the man was none other than Indrajit. He was sitting in a car a few distance away from VR and noticing his son having an ugly smug on his face.

Jaydeep asked chuckling," Should I kidnap her?
