Chapter 28: Chapter 28
What a better way to start her morning, that was the kind she had been craving for and didn't even know until it happened. She had a sheepish smile all over her face throughout their lecture, Qamar had to nudge her shoulder before she turned to her, trying so hard to hide the smile away from her friend.
"Ihsan, mind telling me the crazy thoughts running in their? You seemed quite fascinated today." She winked and entwined their hands, blocking out the lecturer's voice from her head.
Ihsan's eyes bulged out, she looked at her and bit her inner cheek. "Nothing really happened, I was just thinking of home and the memories I had there."
Qamar wiggled her brow and hummed a singing tune. "Do you think when a lady is smitten, that would be hidden from her voice? Tell me, who the guy is." The two weeks they had spent together with Qamar made it much easier for them to share whatever it is between them.
Ihsan immediately shook her head and spoke "Look Qamar, okay let's say it this way. Because I know you'd never let this slide unless I tell something close to it. It's just that I read a book last night and the book was so amazing it keeps playing back in my mind."
"A book indeed." Before Ihsan could talk, the lecturer call out their names and Qamar had to let go, but Ihsan knew her better than that. Because she kept nudging her shoulder whenever the lecturer's attention wasn't on them.
It was finally over, Qamar let out a sigh as the students began trooping out of the lecture room. She turned to Ihsan and her eyes fell on a dramatic Ihsan that had her eyes clenched shut with both palms blocking her ears.
"Qamar, you can't kill me with your interrogations, spare my life dan Allah!" She had even forgotten that Qamar didn't understand hausa. She opened her eyes and flashed her a smile before hugging her. "That meant for Allah's sake. I love you too." She pinched her cheeks and stood up.
Qamar murmured something under her breath and stood up as well. "You aren't waiting for your brother today? Or do you have an appointment to reach in time?"
Ihsan knew it, Qamar would keep on probing until she tell her what it was. But she was never leaking this secret out. What was she going to even tell her? That the person she learnt to be her brother was her husband and he had the most earth shaking hug in the entire universe or what? She can hold a secret as horrific as that please.
"Is Hubby here? You haven't received any of his calls today." She knew the way to take herself out of the main focus, and it did. Because the moment she mentioned Hubby's name, Qamar's face lit up into a smile and she totally forgotten about everything around her. Yes, Her husband, her obsession.
"He had to leave for a trip, he's now in Michigan. I'm taking the bus today, let's leave if you're ready." She slung her bag over her shoulder and stepped out of her seat.
"Oh, let me escort you there, Sadeeq isn't done yet. And I'm yet to start my classes I would've take you there." Ihsan smiled and they walked out of the class giggling at each other. Nobody could look at Qamar and say she was married, she was so pure and beautiful.
Ihsan kept telling her the little she knew about the hausa culture, when she had a question that surpassed Ihsan's knowledge, they asked the google. They arrived at the bus stop and Qamar was lucky to get the bus in time before it left.
She hopped in and bade Ihsan goodbye before Ihsan turned to her heels. She felt as the chilly air of Doha kept caressing her body, and she smiled, rubbing off the speckles of leaves on her shoulders. She was having this feeling...a feeling she couldn't come to understand not to talk of voicing it out to the world.
She walked towards the cafeteria to get something for her brunch, because Sadeeq was so persistent she had to leave her uneaten plate of chips. She sat on the last chair and kept her bag and phone on the table, as she placed her order.
Taking the view of the college through the window, her eyes fell on the brown haired ogle, whom had her hands clasped with a Male's and she looked up to the face of the man. Behold, she caught sight of a smiling face of Sadeeq, he laughed as Noor admiringly looked at him without a shame in the world.
They were close to the restaurant she was in, and it took the all in her to tear off her gaze from them and fixed her eyes on her now brought food. Nothing appealed her eyes, she was just looking and rounding the spoon over the plate as if that would soothe the burning age coming from her heart.
They entered, and she was sure he glanced at her. Because she felt them walking towards her and she had to pretend she was eating the food that felt everything sort of a poison to her buds.
As a gentle man would, Sadeeq dragged back the chair for Noor and she sat down before he sat on the one adjacent to her. He placed his folded hands on the table and smiled at Ihsan, but she didn't look up.
"Ihsan, are we fighting?" He asked, placing his order together with Noor.
"What would you like to eat SA?" Noor had asked, in the most annoying tentative voice Ihsan had ever heard. And what in the world was the meaning of SA?
"Just order what you'd like to eat, it'd be okay." And here came to must conniving gentle man. Who act like that towards food? Like seriously? What if she wanted to eat tuwo? Then he'll eat it too despite him hating the meal?
She groaned within the premises of her soul.
Their orders were brought, and still, Ihsan hadn't spared him nor his brown haired ogle a look. She was busy with her phone and food she almost missed their existence on her table.
"Ihsan won't you talk to me? If I could remember, we came out fine, no fights and argument. Just the normal us, why the attitude?" She rolled her eyes at that, but still did a good job at keeping them locked on the screen of her phone.
"Okay I get it. Won't you say hi to Noor? You know what, it happened that we share the same classes with her, she studies civil engineering." He was grinning widely, happiness was evident on his face as he told her that his ogle whom had her eyes fixed on his face right now shared class with him!
Oh, how she was tired of this. She stood up, slung her bag and placed five notes of qatari riyal before she walked out of the restaurant her head held high.
Sadeeq didn't spare Noor a look when he followed her, and she was out of his sight. He went to the parking lot of the cafeteria and drove towards the school gate, he knew she was aiming at the school gate so she could take a bus home. What a hard nut to crack!
She was almost by the gate when he honked at her, knowing it was him; Ihsan hissed to herself and set her pace. She was taken up guard when he lifted her up and squeezed her into the car, in the matter of seconds.
"Stop the car right this instant or I'll open the door and walk out while you're driving!" He had never seen her this angry ever in his life, even though she was the type that easily got angry, she cooled down at even more faster rate.
"Ihsan, you can't do that shit! Stay put or wallahi I'm going to beat the hell out of you!" He shouted the last words and took an abrupt stop, because she had already opened the door.
"Close that door!" There was a certain authority in his voice, and she found herself doing what he asked of her.
"Put on your seatbelt, and I dare you utter a word!" He was angry beyond words could tell, what if something happened to her? Ya Allah, she was crazier than he had thought.
They arrived home without one of them uttering a word, only the slow recitation of the holy Quran by sudais. Ihsan opened the door and banged it hard, she waited until he got down before he unlocked the house and she entered her room directly.
It took Sadeeq thirty minutes to recuperate from his anger, he knew what he did wasn't right, but why was she angry? Over what?
Reluctantly, Sadeeq found himself walking towards her room, he turned the door knob and found her laid flat on her bed as she sobbed. Oh, this was even more bad than he thought.
