Chapter 43: Chapter 43
ANGELIQUE SLOAN’S POV
I immediately felt how quickly Greyson’s arms loosened its grip around my waist as soon as I reacted negatively to his intention. Whether he was genuine of wanting to protect my mother from Lian, it didn’t matter to me. After all, I knew deep inside that Gwynneth was the only one he’s eager to protect other than myself.
“Stop dragging Gwynneth into this conversation, Angelique. Our main goal is to avoid letting Lian reach your mother,” Greyson coldly uttered as he gently pushed me away.
As I shook my head in disbelief of what he said, I attempted to walk past him and return to his car, but I hurriedly stopped my tracks when I didn’t sense his footsteps following me.
“What do you really want to do, Greyson?” I asked, turning around to face him once more. “Can’t we just let go of the past and live freely as we want? If it’s you, there’s a huge possibility for us to start over in a different place far away from our parents,” I added.
Greyson sighed, pulling me back to the corner of the stall. “Your conscience alone wouldn’t let you be free if you witnessed someone else taking your mother’s life, would it?” he murmured before smoking. He threw the cigarette down and stepped on it.
“I know. My hands are getting itchy for her blood, but I still haven’t forgotten that I’m still a human, Greyson. I still haven’t paid for my father’s death,” I answered, which doesn’t sound too real.
I tried my best to suggest getting away from this place instead, but Greyson doesn’t want to. He kept on insisting that it would be best if our parents were out of the picture for good.
The atmosphere that surrounded us changed at the same time that Greyson furrowed his eyebrows. He stared at me deeply and held both of my shoulders. “If you’re worried about adding another thing to your criminal record, then perhaps we can do what you’re suggesting,” he said.
I slightly tilted my head sideways in confusion. “What do you mean? I thought you didn’t want to get far away from here,” I muttered in between my short breaths.
Greyson nodded his head. “I don’t want to be too selfish, so let me add it all up.”
He mentioned how we were going to travel to a place where no one would recognize us. That we have to bring our parents there with us and commit the crime there instead of here, wherein I’m already at a huge risk of getting myself imprisoned. Worse, be killed as punishment.
Before I could’ve tried to complain about the different course of plan than what’s already prepared by Lian, he placed a finger on my mouth as Lian showed herself.
“What’s taking you two so long?” Lian glanced at the both of us. “Don’t tell me that you’re making up another plan and leaving me behind?” she jokingly said.
I gulped, knowing that it was what really occurred just now.
Greyson made sure that I wouldn’t say anything about what we talked about as he pulled me together with him back to his car. The three of us travelled for about an hour until we reached Lian’s place to drop her off.
“I still have to go back to your company building, Greyson. But I can take a taxi on my way there, so you can go,” Lian uttered as she slammed the door shut.
I saw her waving her hand as farewell as Greyson drove off until we were already in front of his house.
“Are you sure that you’re not going to discuss that with Lian? Or are you trying to team up with her in secret just like what you’re doing with me?” I questioned him, wondering if he was sincere in only trying to help me and no one else.
Greyson went out of the car and he turned around to open the door for me. He assisted me in getting off and did the same until we entered his house. Judging from the silence inside, there seemed to be no one else around other than the two of us.
“You don’t have to be wary of my parents. They are currently outside,” Greyson mumbled as he noticed that I kept on roaming my eyesight.
I heaved out a loud sigh. “I understand that you want me to get revenge for what I experienced from my parents, but I still can’t comprehend the reason why you also want your parents to be gone.”
Even without Greyson’s word, I made myself at home as I sat comfortably on the living room’s couch. For some unknown reason, I felt quite comfortable here compared to when I was at my own house.
“They’ve given me more hardships than what you can imagine. I’ll tell you more about it by the time that you’ve already accomplished your goal with your own mother,” Greyson replied, sounding suspicious.
I rolled my eyes in frustration. Knowing his personality, I doubt that I can still force him to talk about it once he already pushed the conversation somewhere else.
“Do you even know where I can find my mother? Like I said earlier, I don’t have any clue, so…” I leaned my head backwards, relaxing both of my arms on the side.
I saw Greyson nod his head once from the corner of my eye, causing me to sit properly in surprise that he actually knew.
“Really? Did you place a GPS tracker on her body or something?” I asked in surprise.
Greyson held his laughter. “I have a lot of secrets that you still haven’t figured out, Angelique. Besides, knowing your mother’s whereabouts was seriously a piece of cake,” he said before he sat right beside me.
I stared at him for a few seconds, mesmerized by his looks even though he still hadn't taken a shower after the long ride we had.
I faked a cough. “So, where is she?”
“Your mother is at the house of the woman you despise,” Greyson answered with a teasing look. “I’m a hundred percent sure that Gwynneth is hiding her,” he added.
I gritted my teeth at the same time that I clenched my fists in anger. I still don’t understand how I can get this vexed by simply hearing Gwynneth’s name coming out of Greyson’s mouth.
