Chapter 34: Chapter 34
ANGELIQUE SLOAN’S POV
I could sense how serious Austin was with the words he declared to Greyson. His hands were tightly pressing on my wrist, refusing to let me go. However, I have no intention of letting Austin do as he pleases, especially not in front of someone I have known for years.
“Can you let go of me now, Austin? I don’t know what you’re planning, but I don’t like what’s running through your mind,” I coldly said, placing my palm above the back of his hand. “I could’ve let this slide further if you were at least my ex-boyfriend or someone I had feelings for... But seriously, you’re just a stranger to my eyes, Austin,” I added to make him realize his selfishness.
“You heard my woman speak.” Greyson stepped in between us, aggressively pushing Austin’s shoulder to make him forcibly let go of me. “I don’t know who you are, but you’re thick-headed as fuck, dude. Go find your own wife or at least a girlfriend and mind your own business. Whatever’s happening between the two of us will be settled by us alone. We don’t need anyone else’s insights,” he said like a cool guy would.
Greyson and I left Austin behind. This time, he didn’t have the courage to follow me anymore, seeing that I’m already with another man.
“Seriously though, how the heck did you figure out that I was there? I don’t believe a word you said earlier,” I interrogated Greyson while we were on our way back to his hometown.
He slid his hand to mine, intertwining our fingers together. Greyson glanced down our clasped hands and slowly turned it around to stare at the wedding ring he purchased back then. “I don’t know what I could've done to that guy if you weren’t around. You know how much of a possessive man I am,” he said instead of answering my query.
Knowing him, even if I repeat the same question twice or more, if he doesn’t answer it the first time, he never would.
“Are you still mad about Gwynneth?” Greyson asked, breaking the silence between us after I went silent for minutes.
I stopped walking, causing him to do the same and focus on each other first. “Why are you asking what’s already obvious? Have you finally lost your common sense after spending years with her?” I replied, acting rude.
Greyson suddenly pulled me into an embrace, his broad arms locking my way out. “You don’t have to be wary of Gwynneth. I swear that she’s not that much of a threat to us... especially to you,” he uttered to assure me, but it’s not effective at all.
The worst already occurred to me because of Gwynneth, and I don’t think that I can ever forgive her for that.
As I shook my head, I gently pushed Greyson away. “That woman of yours is making me sick, Greyson. Knowing that I haven’t forgotten about how possessive you are, then I’m sure that you also know how crazy I can get when I’m jealous down to the core, right?” I questioned him.
It’s been a few years already since the last time that he got a taste of how insane I can get. The last time that I remember is when I saw him hanging out with his high school friend.
They were too close with each other, so I thought that there was something going on between them. I didn’t know how to set my boundaries back then. I knew that Greyson and I weren’t in any official relationship that day, so it was really rude of me to splash their drinks on them. But whenever I think back on that time, I can’t help myself not to laugh about it.
“Let’s just forget it and put it all behind, okay? I’ve done things with Gwynneth that I can’t erase anymore, but the same goes for you, Angelique. You spent your night together with a man you’ve barely known,” Greyson muttered, shifting all the blame on me.
I didn’t realize that we were already in front of his house as we were having such a serious conversation. “Isn’t anyone home?” I asked, anxious about whoever might see me.
Greyson placed his hand on my back, caressing it slowly. “Don’t worry. Even if my parents are there, they won’t do anything to you. They know how much I treasure you,” he replied, genuinely smiling at me.
A few seconds after he said those, I heard a loud thud coming from their living room. “What was that?” I uttered, anxious that something might have occurred between Greyson’s mom and dad.
Even if Greyson tried to stop me from going in their house through their front door, I still managed to get in, seeing that it wasn’t locked.
“A-Angelique... I thought that you wouldn’t be arriving until an hour later,” Greyson’s mother said, looking at me with disbelief. “S-surprise, I guess?” she added, still stuttering.
Greyson finally went inside, and I heard him murmuring words that I couldn’t quite understand as it came out as a whisper. I glanced at him and saw how he was quite startled.
“I should’ve argued with you more back there,” he told me with an awkward smile before he turned to face his parents. “And why the hell did you make such a loud noise? Angelique wouldn’t have barged in here if she didn’t hear a thud,” he complained.
“It’s your fault, Greyson. Don’t put the blame on us. Actually, you should just thank us since we bothered taking a day off our work for your sake,” his dad said.
His father has a point.
“Sorry to intervene, but...” I rubbed the back of my head, looking confused. “What’s all this for?” I asked as I took a look around the surroundings of their living room.
There were a lot of balloons, flowers, and gift boxes. Other than that, I felt like I got thrown a surprise for my birthday.
Greyson’s mom chuckled, one of her clenched fists in front of her face, looking quite embarrassed. “Ask your dear husband, Angelique...”
