Chapter 29: Chapter 29
ANGELIQUE SLOAN’S POV
After a few years, my life has been unbelievably silent. I was expecting that there would be a lot of people who would be after my life, or even just my simple presence.
But there was no one chasing me around.
Everything and everyone is too peaceful. It was as if someone out there was protecting me from being harmed. As much as I don’t want to assume, there’s only one person that I can think of who could possibly do it—Greyson.
Before I left him back then, I still heard how much he was apologizing for how things ended up. Greyson mentioned that he really wasn’t the one I should be mad at, saying that he was completely innocent of what I’m blaming him for.
I should reconsider and think thoroughly about the people that I’ve recently encountered, which instantly made me remember my mother and Gwynneth.
They were the only ones remaining who knew about what I did.
I heaved out a loud sigh at the same time that I shook my head. “I can’t just go back to him and say that I was mistaken, right?” I whispered a query to myself, feeling guilty for how I acted toward Greyson.
A few minutes later, my phone suddenly opened, only to see that Greyson had sent me another message.
I’ve been ignoring all of his calls and messages, but it seems like I can’t ignore this one. It had a heading that I should at least read that new text from him, and it’s fine even if I don’t read the previous ones.
“Do you still remember how Joy told you that there was someone who tipped you off?” was the first sentence from Greyson’s text. “I’m a hundred percent sure that it was the doing of Gwynneth,” was the end of his message.
Those were only two sentences, but it was still quite difficult for me to comprehend them.
“Why would Gwynneth do something like that to me? I don’t even know her. And if that’s what you’re guessing, then that means that Gwynneth has already been attacking me since we reunited?” I replied to Greyson’s message, hoping that he would text back, but he decided to call.
“She knew that I was planning to be in a relationship with you. Gwynneth opposed it so much, so she threatened me that she’d release your video sooner or later,” Greyson said as soon as I answered his call.
All the guilt that I felt earlier disappeared when I heard his response.
“So you planned to be in a relationship with me?” I scoffed. “I thought you were already being genuine with your feelings for me. I guess I assumed too much, thinking that we could’ve pursued our love that failed in our childhood years,” I uttered with a hint of dismay.
I immediately ended the call, knowing that there’s nothing better to come from him either way.
“I shouldn’t have bothered reading his message and picking up his call,” I murmured before I decided to finally get out of my house.
I’ve been living all by myself in such a secluded place, far away from people who might recognize who I am. After all those years that I spent hiding, I guess it’s now time to expose myself.
My wallet and bank card are going to run dry soon, and I can’t let that happen. I have to find a stable source of income, and just like Gwynneth, I’ll go back to Greyson’s side when I’m already luxurious enough.
I won’t return to him to beg for him to love me sincerely. I’ll go back to give him a harder slap than I did the last time we saw each other.
This journey is most probably going to drain my entire life, but the realization that I haven’t done anything good for myself is beginning to get unbearable.
“Are you currently looking for new employees?” I asked the first staff that I saw from the infrastructure that I entered.
The woman politely smiled at me, along with a shake of her head. “We’re not open for new applicants as of now. You can try again next time once we’re hiring,” she plainly turned me down.
I slightly parted my lips before I gave her my thanks.
The same scenario kept repeating all throughout the day that I searched for a job. I never expected that it would be a hassle to simply look for a workplace that has a vacant spot.
“Now that I’m filled with bad luck, it feels like fate itself is pulling me back to Greyson and returning as his personal secretary,” I murmured to myself.
I know that it’s been years since we last saw each other. A part of me is hoping that his personality has at least changed for a little bit, but at the same time, I personally know that it’s beyond impossible.
Greyson has surely brought a lot of women to bed while I was out of his sight.
My pride wouldn’t permit me to go back to him unless I’m worthy, with or without a man beside me.
“You look miserable,” an unfamiliar voice said from behind, causing me to turn around to look at whoever it was. “I have been following you since earlier—”
“Following me? Who are you? Are you a stalker?” I cut him off before he could’ve explained himself.
The stranger laughed at my reaction. “Don’t worry, I’m not here to harm you. I actually decided to approach you since you seemed to be in a pinch,” he mumbled.
“Why? Do you know me?” I raised one of my eyebrows as I crossed my arms below my chest.
The man nodded his head twice, and at the same time, a small grin curled on his dried lips. “You’re currently on the run for murdering your parents, aren’t you?” he questioned me, which immediately made me flinch and tense.
I thought a few years would be enough for these people to forget about what I’ve done. I never should’ve exposed myself in public yet.
