Chapter 10: Chapter 10

ANGELIQUE SLOAN

Rubbing my eyes upon the disturbance of the sunlight that shone through the glass window beside the cabinet of the room, I realized that I had spent the night together with Greyson in a room that was neither mine nor his. “W-where are we?” I loudly asked, pulling the bedsheet near my chest even though I wasn’t even naked.

“Can you tone down a bit?” Greyson sounded pissed, making it seem like he didn’t care who it was that asked him. “I didn’t touch your damn body, Angelique. Calm down. I just didn’t know what to do with you after you passed out hours ago,” he continued.

I remained seated in the same position as I stared at him, slowly blinking his eyes to remove the feeling of being sleepy. “What do you mean?”

Greyson sat on the edge of the bed. “I didn’t want to leave you alone in my bar, so I figured out that bringing you to a hotel would be the best solution. Mostly for now, I still haven’t processed anything regarding your mansion,” he answered, which cleared up all of the confusion that I had. “While we’re still on the topic, I want you to get ready in less than an hour or so.”

“For what reason? You know how I’m still worried about the stranger who might have known who I really was, and I highly think that this may be the best hideout for now,” I said. It may sound like I have totally chickened out after committing such a terrible sin. Though, I still don’t feel satisfied after all the years that they made me suffer…

I should have tortured them bit by bit instead of instantly taking their life away.

I heard Greyson clicking his tongue countless times as he dragged himself to the bathroom. “You know that you’d instantly be locked up in jail once you’re discovered, right?” he asked at the same time that he opened the shower.

“Of course! I wouldn’t be hiding if I hadn't thought about the possible consequences that I’d soon be facing.”

“If you know that much, then shouldn’t you just prepare yourself for the worst? You could even end up being given a lifetime imprisonment by the court. There’s also the possibility that you’d be hung up and be executed for being such an imbe—”

“Bastard!” I threw the blanket, then stood up from the bed as I walked out of the hotel room after properly dressing up with such heavy footsteps.

This Greyson never changed. He still acts so arrogant every single time that I owe him a favor.

“Excuse me?” A random man approached me, making me halt my attempt to press the button going down on the elevator. “Have we met somewhere before?” he inquired, curiosity filled in his eyes.

I rolled my eyes, completely ignoring him. I can’t be too careless now and for the succeeding months. As soon as I reached the lobby of the hotel, I went out and breathed in some fresh air.

“Angelique!” Greyson called me from the floor that I came from, so I had to tilt my head upwards just to see and hear him clearly. “Wait for me downstairs, we’re going on a date!”

My frustration from the man that talked to me out of nowhere earlier instantly vanished when I heard that Greyson was planning to take me out on a f*cking date.

“W-what…”

Only a few minutes passed by, he arrived beside me with his tuxedo. If only we didn’t know each other from the past, I would definitely fall for him at first sight and he would be haunting me in my dreams every night. No wonder why there are a lot of women out there who get deceived by Greyson other than the fact that he’s rich.

“I’ve arranged my schedule to spend at least this whole day with you. I have a lot of business matters to attend to by tomorrow onwards, but…” Greyson held my head from behind and slowly roamed his finger on my ear, tucking some of my hair behind it. “You’re my one and only official secretary, so… I’ll make sure that you wouldn’t be having such traumatic experiences more than what you’ve already endured… knowing that you’d be staying together with me from morning until midnight. It’s like we’re totally inseparable, huh?” Greyson winked at me.

Despite the way that I left him earlier, he still didn’t fail not to give me butterflies in my stomach. Greyson embraced me in that very moment while the crowd was watching us. “H-hey… You’re grabbing the attention of many people…” I whispered to him as I tried to resist his hug, even though it wasn’t that much of a big deal for someone like me.

“Come on.” He invited me to ride in his sports car.

Our ride wasn’t that long since we didn’t travel far from the hotel that we came from. We only roamed around the mall to buy me certain outfits to wear. And now, we’re currently in front of a jewelry shop.

“I don’t think that this is necessary for my job as a secretary… Let’s just go somewhere else,” I mumbled at the same time that I attempted to step forward, going in the other direction where the escalator was.

Greyson grabbed my hand and forced me to go inside the shop. The saleslady instantly welcomed us. I couldn’t stop myself from giving each one of them a death glare as if I actually had the authority to do so.

“You used to be so silent about your surroundings. I didn’t expect that you’d suddenly turn cold once you’re jealous.” He let out a loud laughter before leaning closer to my shoulder to reach my ear. “You’re already this possessive even though we’re just pretending to be couples…” he whispered with that husky tone of his voice, purposely making me feel embarrassed about what I’ve done.

I chose to maintain my composure in order not to get provoked with his words.

“Pick whichever interests you, everything being sold here would definitely look fascinating on you,” Greyson complimented as he commanded the women to guide me.

I couldn’t think straight. Ever since I was a child, I was never fond of wearing any type of jewelry, so it’s quite bothersome for me to decide on which one I should choose.

In the end, we spent almost an hour and I wasn’t even able to choose one.

“You’ve got a sense of fashion, but you’re really not into accessories, huh…”

“I dislike anything that’s solely made for that purpose— showing off just to impress people.” I quickly covered my mouth in realization that I had thought out loud.

Greyson sighed as he shook his head twice, as if to tell me that he pities the life that I’ve been living up until now. “At least it’s clear to me that you still hate them,” he said. “It’s not that you don’t like jewelry— you just grew up in an environment wherein you believed that wearing expensive things would make you…”

“...a devil in disguise,” I continued what he wanted to say as if we had our minds linked together.

He clapped once to disrupt the attention of the salesladies. “Enough of chitchats, take a look at this, Angelique.”

One of the ladies who wore an orange fitted dress gave Greyson a tiny box.

Greyson knelt with one of his knees on the ground, while the other foot was fixed on the ground. “No one would believe that we’re really a couple if we don’t wear a matching wedding ring, right?” He smiled as he wore it on my ring finger.

I wasn’t anticipating this moment to come, not at all, and I feel like I’ve brought myself inside a romantic novel wherein time freezes!
