Chapter 9: Chapter 9
"Isabella was the one who called. She told me what happened." Seraphina stands at the doorway. Everette is on bed cuddling herself up with the comforter. She is feeling cold, a cold she never felt before. Pain can concede some things.
"I told her you are at my place and she said she will come visiting tomorrow. It's getting late already. She will bring your phone along." Seraphina added.
"Mom will forgive me soon. Before tomorrow." Everette replies with full confidence.
Seraphina scoffs and enters the room fully. "She sent you out when you were feeling cold and beaten by the rain. Your mom should have been more humane." Seraphina spat back at her. She really hates what her mom did to her.
Everette sits up on the bed immediately. "I won't allow you to talk about my mom that way. She's just been caring and disciplining me. I was wrong and she is scolding me." Everette says in support of her Mom. Just because her mom sent her out doesn't mean she will let anyone talk down on her Mom.
"Okay, okay. Sleep back and take some rest." Seraphina surrenders, wanting no more trouble from her. Everette is too weak to fight her. "What should I prepare for you? I'm about to prepare dinner." Seraphina asks.
"I will eat anything you prepare." Everette replies and cuddles herself back to the bed.
Seraphina nods and walks out of the room, heading to the kitchen. She can't believe Everette is still in support of her mother with what she had done to her. Scolding her? Seraphina scoffs in annoyance. She can just scold her at home instead of sending her out. Won't sending her out bring more unwanted attention than scolding her at home? Can't a child have fun? Have fun as he or she wants. Seraphina has always known Everette for being a modest lady. This is one mistake she made and they escalated it to a big unnecessary issue. Making it seem like she has been promiscuous for too long.
Seraphina picks up an apple and bites on it. She can't imagine herself being caged like that. On her bachelorette party, she will enjoy her last singlehood party and fuck as many guys as she wants. Nonsense!
"Everette! Everette! Wake up!" Seraphina taps her till she opens her eyes a little bit.
"Your temperature… it's hot… so hot. Everette! Wake up." Everette can hear Seraphina talking to her and tapping her to get up.
"Mmmm.." Everette murmurs and turns away from her. Her heart beats rapidly as she feels herself slipping into the never ending darkness.
"Everette! Shit!" She hears Seraphina curse. That was the last thing she heard before slipping into a place with no thought, no pain, no sadness, no feelings, the never ending darkness.
Everette opens her bleary eyes and stares at the white ceiling.
"You are awake." Seraphina's voice comes up beside her. She holds her hands tightly.
"Where am I?" Everette asks softly. She feels weak.
"You are at the hospital." Seraphina answers her, not leaving her hand. "You scared me." She added.
"What am I…" Her speech was disturbed by the grumble in her stomach.
"I knew you would be hungry. Take, I cooked it for you." She hands over the flask of food she cooked to her. Everette glances at her and realizes her shirt was different from the one she wore earlier.
"Did you change clothes before bringing me over? You are ridiculous." Everette chuckles and opens up her food. The aroma makes her want more.
"No, you fainted yesterday. This is another day." She says to her.
Everette glances at her in disbelief. "What?"
"Yeah, you fainted last night and I called the ambulance. I can't possibly carry you from my house to this place, you added some weight." She replies with a smile but Everette notices it. She notices that the smile didn't reach her eyes.
"What's wrong?" She asks while eating the food. "You look worried." Seraphina averted her gaze away from her. She brings out a paper and hands it over to her.
"The doctor ran a test on you when you were brought in last night." She says handing it over to her.
"You shouldn't have bothered. It's cold. Does mom know I am here? Did she…." The rest of the words hang in her mouth as Everette rereads the content of the paper.
"I… I'm p..preg.. pregnant." She stutters and the paper falls from her hands. Now, Seraphina regrets what she had said. The words that she thinks. Maybe having fun at the party was a wrong idea. But if Everette had used protection, this wouldn't have happened.
What will she do? Will her mom accept her as she thinks? Seraphina wonders as she looks at Everette with a pitiful face. Everette holds an unreadable expression and Seraphina could not understand her or knows what she is thinking.
"Ahhh!!" Everette screams and Seraphina jerks up instantly. She picks up the flask in front of her and drops it elsewhere.
"Everette, please calm down." She says to her.
"Seraphina! I'm doomed. Mom will hate me forever. I was thinking she would come back for me and forgive me but this! How will she handle it? How will I handle it? I don't even know the father. I don't know the father. I'm clueless. I don't know the man who raped me. I know nothing about him. The man who disvirgined and raped me, who brought me pain and changed my life story, I don't know him." Everette cries bitterly.
"Everette, it's okay." Seraphina comforts her. She doesn't know what to say and feels like crying for her too but that would worsen the situation. She has to be strong for her.
"It's not okay. It's not!" She says back to her. "I'm carrying a bastard!" She added.
"No, don't say that." Seraphina protested.
"I know nothing of the father. Then definitely he is a bastard. I never planned my life to be this way." Everette cries bitterly and rests on Seraphina. Why is this happening to her?
