Chapter 4: Chapter 4
"Jim, I'm sorry"
"Please reply to my messages."
"We can solve this. It was unintentional. Why are you ghosting me?" Everette floods Jim with questions eager for his response. Why wasn't he replying to her? She tried his number several times and didn't get any reply from him. She has lost count of how many times she has placed a call on him. Everette is totally devastated as she lays down on her bed. It's night already and her mind isn't at ease. She can't sleep, not when Jim isn't talking to her. Tomorrow is their wedding and Jim is ghosting her. Are they not supposed to talk this out? Jim knows she isn't someone like this, someone who will go around sleeping with guys. It was unintentional, she was drunk and she regrets it.
Won't it be stupid and unanimous to have a fight before the wedding. Jim has always been the type to talk things out when they disagree on a thing. She has always not wanted him to sleep with her but she can't believe she isn't the one she lost her virginity to. If it was Jim, even without getting married yet, it will be better and she won't regret it. But it's with an unknown man.
Everette ruffles her hair and picks up her phone nervously. She opens up her messages and Jim hasn't replied to her yet. It's on read, he reads it but he isn't replying to her. Why is he this way? Everette drops the phone back to her shelf and sighs out heavily. She will try to see him first tomorrow and talk it out with him. Or maybe after the wedding, she must speak to him privately and must resolve this before taking anything further. He can't leave her clueless this way. She picks up her phone again and opens her message box. "I'm feeling sleepy. Good night. We will discuss it tomorrow." She sends it to him.
Everette pulls her comforter close to herself and cuddles under the sheet. Her eyes were becoming heavy but all she can think of is, tomorrow, wedding, Jim, the party, rape. But nature always wins in the end.
Everette rose up from sleep to hear the sound of music, people chatting and walking about in their house. She can hear their full voices and how her mom is giving orders in a loud voice. It's probably her and her sister's friend with her mom's friend trying to pack up things to hasten the wedding. Her mom hates lateness and she will never make her get late on her wedding day. She's sure she will get there before Jim. Everette chuckles on her thoughts and sits up on the bed.
A knock lands on the door. "Everette, wake up. Today is the day. I'm coming in." Isabella's voice comes up and she opens the door immediately with Seraphina following suit. Everette looks at the fancy clock on the wall in her room, it's 7:00 am. They must have woken up early.
"You guys are up early." She says to them as they walk into the room fully.
"Yes, we have to get something done and we didn't bother waking you up early. You look like you were going through a lot yesterday." Isabella rolls her eyes at her and picks up some clothes off the floor.
"I'm okay now." She assures her.
"And I bet you didn't know I slept here yesterday. I was planning to sleep in your room but you didn't look really good last night." Seraphina says and urges her to stand up. "Get up. Go take your bath and we'll set up your dress." She says to her and hands over her towel. Everette walks into the bathroom hurriedly with a smile dancing on her lips. She was a little bit worried about Jim's quietness yesterday. She will check her phone to know whether he has replied or not. They will talk about it when they see, he won't get her to stand over for long.
Everette sits in front of the mirror as the makeup artist begins her work on her.
"You will transform into a goddess in a few minutes." Seraphina says in a playful manner.
"Yes, we contacted the best makeup artist for you." Isabella added happily and the artist can't help but smile after the compliment that is thrown to her.
"Everette, will you mind telling us what went wrong last night?" Seraphina asks, laying her hands on her shoulder. Everette breathes out nervously. She hasn't gotten a reply from him. He left her message on read.
"I will. After the wedding. Let's enjoy the moment now." Everette replies, forcing out a wide smile.
"After the wedding, Jim may keep you away from us. I don't trust him." Isabella whined out and they laughed out loud.
"I'm glad you are okay now. Please hurry!" Seraphina says and she directs the last sentence to the artist. "We should have woken her up early."
"No, she's the bride. Let her get some rest. Are you thirsty because I am? I will bring some water and snacks." Isabella says and walks out to get it. Everette picks up her phone again and turns on her data. It's the same thing. There's no message from him. Everette starts getting worried. Did he hurt himself because of her? Or did something happen to him? Sapphire notices the frown on her face.
"You are tensing up. You should smile. You look more pretty with a smile." Seraphina says to her with a grin. "What's wrong?" She asks.
"Jim isn't answering my text." Everette says to her.
Seraphina laughs out immediately when she says that and the artist can't help but grin.
"Is that why you are tense? The guy is probably preparing for the wedding. You are going to spend the rest of your life with this same guy so why are you so worried?" Seraphina says to her.
Everette nods and takes the excuse from her. He's preparing for the wedding. She shouldn't over think.
