Chapter 67: Chapter 67
The next morning, Joel woke up with a slight headache and a queasy feeling in his body. His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he quietly opened his eyes and looked around, spotting Primrose sleeping peacefully beside him.
Her curled eyelashes lay gently over her sparkling eyes, her lips were slightly pursed at the moment, and a few strands of disheveled hair adorned her smooth face. Her current appearance was both innocent and harmless, causing Joel's heart to melt uncontrollably.
He slowly recalled the events of the previous day, when he was drunk and had spoken a lot of meaningless words to Primrose. He suddenly felt embarrassed and wished he could erase those memories from Primrose's mind. After all, he usually presented himself as a mature and somewhat serious person, but after getting drunk, he had spoken childishly and somewhat coquettishly, revealing a side of him that he usually hid.
He wondered what Primrose would think and if she found him too childish.
Joel helped Primrose fix her disheveled hair and then got up slowly to prepare breakfast. He had become quite proficient in these tasks due to his daily routine. The kitchen quickly filled with the aroma of delicious food, making anyone who smelled it feel hungry.
When Primrose's alarm clock rang softly in the room, she yawned and stretched as she sat up. She looked around at the empty space beside her and the cold corner of the bed. She didn't need to guess to know that Joel had already woken up and gone to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
She stifled another yawn, quickly brushed her teeth, and changed clothes. Then she went downstairs to find Joel. At the foot of the stairs, she spotted Joel standing tall in the kitchen, his well-fitted t-shirt accentuating his strong physique. He was carefully placing a plate on the table. Primrose remembered Joel's words from yesterday, and a playful smile curled her lips as she approached silently, not making a sound. Just as Joel turned to pick up a warm glass of milk, Primrose embraced him from behind.
"Good morning, my husband."
The warmth and softness of her body pressed against his back caused Joel's movements to pause, and a sense of emptiness filled his mind. Primrose's gentle voice brushed against his ear like a feather, soft and mellow, causing Joel to feel unsettled.
"Why are you so gentle this morning, sweetie?"
After a few seconds to gather his thoughts, Joel placed the glass back on the table and swiftly turned around, enveloping Primrose in his arms. He bent his head and whispered in her ear. The warmth of his breath against her ear sent a flush to her rosy cheeks, and Primrose looked down, maintaining her mischievous smile.
"Do you not like it? Didn't you say yesterday that you wanted me to care more about you?"
"Or have you changed your mind now? Do you want someone else's attention? Who do you want? Shall I help you call them over to pamper you?"
Primrose playfully teased, winking. Her teasing successfully drew a chuckle from Joel, who playfully pinched her cheek and then kissed her forehead.
"I really like it, to the point of being mesmerized. If you greet me in the morning with a kiss, I'd give you anything you want."
"Even if you wanted the moon, I'd climb a ladder to the sky to get it for you."
Joel said in a serious tone, lifting Primrose off her feet and placing her on the dining table. Primrose was in a good mood, so she wrapped her arms around Joel's neck and, in a rare display of initiative, gently kissed his cheek.
"Oh really? Then you owe me a request. Whenever I want, I'll demand it from you."
Primrose's proactive behavior naturally pleased Joel, and he continued to run his fingers through her hair, laughing indulgently. Just as Joel was about to lean down to kiss her on the lips, Primrose lightly pressed her index finger against his lips and playfully dodged away.
"Don't be too greedy. I want breakfast; I'm hungry."
Joel's mood wasn't dampened by the rejection; he just chuckled softly and turned to pour warm milk for Primrose.
"Sure. Have your breakfast, and then I'll give you a ride to work."
Their morning passed in tranquility. During lunchtime, Primrose sought out Nancy to have lunch together. Naturally, Joel felt somewhat disgruntled about this decision, but he couldn't object. After all, Nancy was Primrose's best friend, and it had been a while since they had lunch together.
So, during lunch, Joel sat alone, feeling somewhat dejected. Meanwhile, Primrose and Nancy went out to have lunch with a few close colleagues from the media department. They chatted about company drama and interesting news happening within the company.
"I heard the new CEO's wife is working for our company. Does anyone know who she is?"
Primrose was happily munching on a piece of croissant when she heard June's question. She suddenly choked a bit and cleared her throat. Nancy, beside her, tried to hide her amusement and showed concern by handing Primrose a glass of water. Her gaze, however, carried a hint of mischief. The new CEO's wife, of course, was Primrose herself. Wasn't she the one sitting here with them?
Since Primrose and Joel didn't openly announce their relationship, their colleagues naturally didn't know. Nancy discreetly suppressed her smile and showed interest in the topic, providing Primrose with a drink. But her eyes held a glimmer of amusement. Who was the CEO's wife? Wasn't it the person sitting with them?
"Really? June, how do you know about this? Are you acquainted with Joel?"
June took a sip of her juice, shaking her head as she explained.
"No, how can someone like me, a regular employee, get to know Joel? It's because of his assistant or when we have lunch together, so we can chat briefly."
"Well, he's just an assistant, and he usually orders two portions of lunch and eats with Joel in the company to make work easier. But after Joel acquired our company and his wife started working here too, he started having lunch with her. So, his assistant became free and started having lunch with us."
June spoke in a mysterious manner, not mentioning Primrose at all. However, Primrose felt a little awkward.
Though she was Joel's secretary, many tasks were handled by his assistant. As the assistant had been with Joel at the previous company, he already knew Primrose's background. Primrose tried to sit up straight and listen attentively to the conversation. Occasionally, she made a few surprised remarks.
"Is that so? Nancy, do you have more detailed information? I'm quite curious."
Nancy quickly followed up on June's words.
"That's right, June. Do you have any more details? I'm really intrigued."
Nancy's eyes briefly lingered on Primrose, teasingly suggesting that she was interested in the conversation. However, Primrose didn't want to draw attention to herself, which is why she kept her identity hidden. It wasn't intentional deception; she simply wanted to avoid standing out.
"No, Joel's assistant is quite tight-lipped. He only revealed that much. Nobody else knows anything about this."
June pouted, regretfully pursing her lips. Clearly, this was juicy gossip, but the incomplete information left her feeling frustrated as she didn't know everything. The others around the table also shook their heads with dreamy expressions. Thus, the story of the new CEO's wife temporarily came to an end.
