Chapter 60: Chapter 60
In front of Nancy, Joel still presented himself as a refined and courteous man. But upon returning home and helping Primrose arrange her belongings in the main bedroom, he quickly approached her on the sofa in the living room and embraced her.
"Primrose, I've put your things in the main bedroom. Can we share the same room?"
Before Primrose moved out, they used to have separate rooms, and this arrangement didn't sit well with Joel. Now, taking advantage of Primrose's inattentiveness, he had subtly changed things to be closer to her.
"Sure, but don't hold me too tight. I've told you before, loosen up a bit, and I'll suffocate."
Primrose playfully patted Joel's shoulder, and every time he embraced her, he held her tightly and carefully as if fearing she would disappear any second. This mixture of haste and gentleness made Primrose both amused and frustrated.
"Alright then, promise me you won't leave anymore. If anything comes up, let's sit down calmly and solve it together; don't make decisions on your own."
Joel saw Primrose's positive response and continued. Last time, Primrose disappeared due to a misunderstanding, which worried him deeply. Such a situation could never happen again; otherwise, he feared he wouldn't be able to handle it.
"Alright, I understand. If any misunderstandings arise in the future, I'll think it through more carefully."
Primrose agreed comfortably and leaned her head against Joel's strong, reassuring shoulder, closing her eyes to savor the pleasant scent emanating from him. Joel continued speaking.
"And from now on, you mustn't be cold or distant toward me. I can't stand it, sweetie."
Recalling Primrose's distant behavior in their previous encounters, Joel's heart ached. Primrose's gaze at him had been icy and indifferent as if looking at a stranger. Her tone had been disdainful, causing him immense pain and confusion.
"I understand, don't worry. I promise I will not do that again in the future."
Primrose knew that Joel had been suppressing his emotions in the days leading up to her return. He only showed his vulnerabilities and fears once she was back, so she wanted to assure him earnestly. Seeing the opportune moment, Joel continued in a subdued tone, coaxing her.
"So, can we openly declare our relationship to our colleagues? That way, no one will dare approach you, and I can proudly protect and pamper you at the company."
Finally, Joel revealed his true intention. Primrose sighed. After talking for half a day, Joel's sole desire was this. But why did he want to be public about it?
"No, that's not allowed. My condition for coming back with you was to keep our marriage a secret. If we go public now, or if I return to Nancy's house, okay?"
Primrose could compromise on almost anything except this. She disliked her colleagues making snide remarks about her marriage.
Moreover, Joel was now the CEO of her company. If everyone knew about their relationship, his actions would be seen as biased and unfair, and people would secretly judge them both. Not to mention, Primrose was his secretary, and the fact that she frequently worked in his office would already raise suspicions if they became public. She didn't want to be the center of attention.
Of course, Joel didn't understand Primrose's thoughts, so he felt frustrated. He felt that Primrose wanted to keep her distance from him, whether at home or at work because she didn't have feelings for him. He sighed, let go of her hand, stood up, and walked into the kitchen.
"Fine, I won't bring it up again. What do you want for dinner tonight? I'll cook."
Primrose casually replied that anything was fine, and Joel didn't press further. He obediently entered the kitchen and cooked all of Primrose's favorite dishes. The familiar flavors, combined with delicious dishes, made Primrose happily finish her meal and drink the glass of orange juice that Joel poured for her.
After dinner, Primrose lazily lay on the sofa, engrossed in watching a captivating romantic movie. Joel also naturally lay down beside her, embracing her closely and allowing her to rest her head on his shoulder. The warm atmosphere enveloped them, bringing Joel immense contentment.
At the very least, the feeling of being next to Primrose could fill the emptiness in his heart. Today, finally, Primrose returned to his life. In the future, he wouldn't be alone in this spacious house anymore, feeling lonely.
Tonight's movie was exceptionally intriguing and exciting, so Primrose watched it attentively. Joel quickly got caught up in the captivating plot as well, his gaze fixed on the screen. By the time the movie ended, they were both happily discussing the exciting plot twists.
Thus concluded a romantic evening. Primrose, exhausted, stretched and returned to her bedroom. Joel quietly followed. Today had been a long and challenging day, and Primrose lazily lay on her bed after brushing her teeth, arranging the covers haphazardly.
As Joel emerged from the bathroom, seeing this scene, he couldn't help but smile. Gently, he turned off the lights and turned on the bedside lamp. He slowly laid down next to Primrose, leaning in to whisper in her ear.
"Primrose, are you hungry?"
This sudden question roused Primrose from her drowsiness, and she shook her head.
"Didn't we just have dinner? Aren't you full?"
Primrose's half-asleep state and the ongoing conversation made her question sound a bit fragmented.
Primrose's gaze in the soft, golden bedside light appeared both pure and serene, making the contours of her face seem softer. Joel slowly broke into a smile, his emotions unfolding.
"Yeah, I'm still hungry. I want something sweet—something as sweet as your lips. So, could you endure a little? Just for a few minutes, sweetie."
Joel's words barely finished before he leaned in closer, drawing near and gently capturing Primrose's soft, plump lips. In an instant, Primrose's mind emptied, forgetting how to react.
This kiss was both hurried and tinged with the longing of their days apart, making Primrose feel slightly breathless. Annoyed, she bit down lightly on Joel's lips, causing him to release her with a tender smile. Primrose struggled to catch her breath.
"I've told you before, don't hold your breath while kissing. There's been no progress at all. You need more practice."
Joel chuckled softly, his teasing tone warming the air. He then resumed the kiss, deepening it. The atmosphere around them grew hazier, and the temperature seemed to rise. Primrose's cheeks quickly flushed.
When Joel unbuttoned Primrose's sleep shirt, her skin met the cool air, and she instinctively shrank back. Joel chuckled softly, kissing her collarbone lightly and murmuring,
"Can we continue, sweetie?"
His low laughter, laced with playful intent, caused a blush to creep up Primrose's neck. She squeezed her eyes shut, and her long, fluttering lashes danced in the breeze, captivating Joel.
In the soft glow of the dim light, Primrose bashfully nodded. Joel continued unbuttoning her shirt, his lips now grazing her smooth, glossy skin, causing Primrose to shiver slightly from both embarrassment and a gentle tremor.
"Sweetie, you're really obedient. Well-behaved girls deserve rewards."
Primrose's initial plan of an early night's sleep was naturally quashed as Joel continuously lavished her with fervent kisses, brimming with affection. The fervor continued until the wee hours of dawn.
Primrose often wanted to push Joel away due to exhaustion, yet he seemed unaware of fatigue, constantly drawing close. If he wasn't kissing her lips, he was planting kisses on the delicate nape of her neck.
Afterward, Primrose was so weary that she drifted into a half-dream state. Joel, still tender, carried her to the bathroom and then tidied up the bedroom.
By the time Joel placed Primrose back on the bed, she had been asleep for a while, curling up in a corner of the bed, her breathing soft and gentle. Her plump, moist lips were tinged with a delicate pink, slightly pursed in sleep. Her petite and lovely nose continuously inhaled and exhaled, looking harmless and pure.
Joel gazed down at her without wavering, his grip on her hand tightening as he suppressed his desire for further unrestrained actions. Primrose seemed truly exhausted, and he couldn't bear to continue to tease her.
"Sweetie, sleep well."
Joel gently kissed her forehead, making sure she was properly covered with the blanket. He then settled down beside her, embracing her tightly as they both drifted into a deep slumber.
A tranquil night passed by.
