Chapter 57: Chapter 57
After going to a nearby restaurant with Joel, Primrose remained cautious as ever, glancing around carefully with a mixture of nervousness and anxiety. Her fidgety demeanor and worried expression made Joel feel like their relationship was akin to a secret affair. This peculiar feeling of excitement couldn't be contained, causing Joel to burst into laughter as he playfully pushed a plate of sliced beef toward Primrose.
"Don't worry, your husband isn't nearby. He's at the company working and can't come looking for you," he teased.
Primrose took a bite of the beef, gave Joel a stern look, and puffed her cheeks. This man truly had no sense of decorum.
"Do you want to be my secretary? Even if you don't want to be the manager, you should still be my secretary so that I can see you every day," he said with a smirk.
"And furthermore, are you comfortable having another woman as my secretary? Aren't you worried she might charm me or concerned about our marriage?"
The more Joel spoke, the more he felt embarrassed. He couldn't help but gaze intently into Primrose's eyes, waiting for her response. Regardless, he had already made up his mind. Whether Primrose agreed or not, she was going to become his secretary. He was merely asking for her opinion as a way to inform her, and if he was lucky, who knew? Maybe Primrose would agree, and he wouldn't need to pressure her any longer.
"Primrose, sweetie, can you do it? If you don't agree, I'll hire a young, beautiful, innocent, and attractive secretary. Let's see if that makes you jealous or angry, hmm?"
Joel pouted, clearly displeased with Primrose's silence. Primrose's disregard made him feel more despondent despite directly expressing his desire. Could Primrose really have no thoughts about another woman being beside him? Was it because she trusted him too much, or was it simply that she wasn't concerned about such matters?
"Alright, being a secretary is fine. Don't put on that expression; I haven't bullied you yet," Primrose replied through gritted teeth. Joel's incessant talk had given her a headache, and she begrudgingly agreed. After all, the lower-ranking employees in the company didn't know yet, but a few high-level executives were aware of Primrose's status. She didn't want to hide it, either.
Moreover, Joel was right. She wasn't entirely comfortable with another woman becoming Joel's secretary, someone who would meet him every day and discuss work matters together, growing closer day by day.
Joel received the answer he wanted, was naturally extremely pleased, and a cheerful smile adorned his face.
"I know you love me the most, sweetie."
The satisfaction in Joel's gaze made Primrose feel bashful. She simply regarded him as air and continued to enjoy her lunch. After finishing the meal, she had no interest in strolling the streets with him, desiring only to return to the company as quickly as possible to avoid bumping into her colleagues by chance.
Regardless, Primrose didn't want too many people gossiping about her marriage; it felt uncomfortable.
Joel was also quite considerate and didn't cause any trouble. After lunch, he drove Primrose back to the company, stopping a short distance away so that Primrose could step out on her own. Of course, before Primrose opened the car door and stepped out, he quickly took her hand and bestowed upon her a passionate kiss.
Joel's work pace was always fast. Just this afternoon, Primrose received a notification about her new position, and her new workspace right next to Joel's office was arranged swiftly. She didn't have any objections. The reason for her promotion was that Joel had exaggerated her achievements too much. He had informed everyone that Primrose was promoted because of her hard work, intelligence, decisiveness, and incredible talent.
Not a word related to Primrose. Upon hearing this, she almost thought Joel was describing another outstanding woman who happened to share her name.
In front of colleagues, Joel maintained his usual composed demeanor. After announcing Primrose's new position, he calmly instructed her to quickly pack her belongings and then come to his office to receive details about her new tasks.
The other colleagues had no doubts and congratulated Primrose with joy. Only Nancy raised an eyebrow, teasing in her gaze. Primrose pretended not to notice, feeling awkward, she avoided Nancy's gaze and began packing her things.
The secretary's office was naturally more spacious than a regular one, and Primrose was quite content with it. After finishing tidying up, she took a short break and then went to knock on Joel's office door. Regardless of what transpired earlier in front of others, she couldn't just sit idle in her new office.
"Joel, I'm here to receive the handover of the new secretary tasks."
Primrose stood upright, composed, and lightly knocked on the office door. Joel's voice quickly resounded, deep and gentle.
"Come in, Primrose."
Primrose walked inside and saw Joel sitting in front of the computer, engrossed in reading documents. When he noticed her approach, he tore his eyes away from the screen and broke into an excited smile.
"Primrose, half an hour passed before you came to find your husband. Why did it take so long? I was almost withered away waiting for you," he teased.
Since the misunderstanding had been resolved, Joel's way of speaking had become increasingly informal. Occasionally, he would utter affectionate and sweet sentences that left Primrose unsure of how to respond. She folded her arms and looked at Joel.
"No task handover? During working hours, we're not supposed to engage in personal conversations, boss."
Primrose intentionally poked fun at Joel, who could only laugh helplessly.
"Alright, then, can you help me organize this stack of documents?" Joel pointed at the pile of papers on his desk. Primrose had no objections and approached. This was, of course, a basic task for a secretary. After she finished tidying them up and placing them neatly on the desk, she asked Joel,
"I'm done organizing. What should I do now?"
Joel had arranged this position for Primrose so that he could interact with her more often, not with the intention of actually having her work. However, seeing Primrose's serious expression, he finally had to clear his throat and make a request.
"Alright, then make me a cup of hot coffee, please. Thank you."
Primrose nodded and turned away in a chilly manner. Joel obediently continued reading the documents while waiting for her return.
A few minutes later, Primrose came back with a cup of coffee in hand. She carefully placed it beside Joel and gently responded.
"Here's your coffee."
Joel slowly lifted the cup and took a sip, playfully teasing Primrose.
"You added some sugar to the coffee, didn't you, sweetie?"
Primrose looked puzzled at Joel, her face displaying disbelief.
"No, why? Is this taste weird"
Joel pursed his lips, raised an eyebrow, and slowly replied.
"Oh, I see. That's why this coffee is so sweet, just like you, sweetie."
In this first encounter in her new role, it was clear that Primrose was utterly defeated. Blushing, she left Joel's office with her head held high. When it came to a lack of composure, she was certainly no match for him.
