Chapter 37: Chapter 37
"Why are you in a bad mood? Did something happen?"
Joel naturally sat down next to Primrose, resting his head on the sofa and watching her eat strawberries. Realizing that Primrose's state was somewhat absent-minded, disinterested, and unhappy, Joel suddenly asked
"Nothing; I must have watched a lot of movies today, so my eyes are a bit tired, and now I'm a bit sleepy."
Primrose made up an excuse and took a bite of strawberry, not wanting to question Joel about Auntie right now. Anyway, that kind of tender message doesn't reflect anything; moreover, Primrose doesn't know how Joel will respond, so questioning or accusing Joel is somewhat unreasonable. Not to mention, considering what Primrose and Joel initially agreed on—not to interfere in each other's private lives—Primrose now has no right to mention the relationship between Joel and Auntie.
Joel actually believed Primrose's words again, thinking that it was too late, so Primrose was tired, only gently patting her head in response.
"Then you eat this plate of strawberries, go to bed early, and you have to go to work early tomorrow."
Primrose nodded, not wanting to talk about unpleasant things anymore. After he finished speaking, Joel also leaned slightly to reach for the phone, and Primrose surreptitiously followed his every move. He couldn't hold back the tension, and his heart rate also unconsciously beat faster.
It seems that Joel has read the other message; his eyes flashed slightly and then returned to normal, unable to determine his emotions. Primrose tried to decipher Joel's feelings after reading Auntie's message but couldn't, so he seriously finished his plate of strawberries and stood up.
"You keep watching the movie; I'm tired; go to bed first."
She still pretended not to know anything but took the plate into the kitchen, put it down in the sink, and returned to the room, not caring about Joel anymore. Joel also did not react; after replying to the other message, he also turned off the TV and got up to go up to the room to follow Primrose.
As for Primrose, seeing Joel's pillow next to hers on the large bed, she suddenly felt a little uncomfortable. She frowned slightly, pouted, and then walked out, just barely touching Joel's face, who had just left.
"Primrose, where are you going?"
Joel blinked at Primrose's every move and couldn't help but ask curiously. Primrose, on the other hand, was calm, with a relaxed expression as usual, and let out a loud voice.
"I went to the small guest room to sleep. Before, we still didn't sleep in the same room; suddenly, next to someone with whom I didn't sleep well, it's better to sleep alone."
This reason, of course, is also extremely forced. Because Primrose could not predict her feelings for Primrose, there was the unexpected factor of Auntie's appearance that made her unable to defend herself, not knowing how to face everything. At best, she feels the two should be separated as before so that she can slowly think things through more clearly.
"There's no need to do that. If you feel uncomfortable with me around, let me move back to my room. This is your room; you don't have to go anywhere."
Joel's eyes flickered with sadness; there seemed to be a bit of pity in that deep, husky voice. He stepped inside, reached for the pillow that was neatly placed on the bed, and left, gently pulling Primrose's hand back into the room.
"Okay, you go to bed early. What do you want to eat tomorrow morning?"
Joel quickly returned to his normal state, pretending not to notice Primrose's unusual coldness. Yesterday was still normal; moreover, after Joel kissed Primrose, she didn't show any rejection. Today, suddenly, there is a distance; there must be something wrong. However, currently, Primrose is not comfortable enough to share everything with him, and Joel is also willing to pretend not to know anything.
Oh, you don't need to prepare; tomorrow Nancy will come pick me up. I go with her to have breakfast and then to the company."
Primrose spoke uncertainly, then pretended not to notice the confusion and surprise in Joel's eyes. She smiled a little reluctantly, said goodbye to Joel, and closed the door, also slowly adjusting her breathing. It's okay; nothing can be concluded yet; she shouldn't have a grudge against Joel.
At best, the two divorces so that Joel can freely resume his old love with Auntie; anyway, Primrose hates cheating in a relationship.
After thinking about it, Primrose also went to the bathroom to wash her face and go to bed. Because thinking too much and sleeping late will make the skin not beautiful anymore, beauty should still be a priority.
The next morning, Primrose was awoken by the ringing of the phone beside her. She yawned and opened her eyes, groping around a few times to successfully get the phone, then peeked; it was Nancy calling.
"Primrose, wake up. Yesterday you said you wanted me to have breakfast with you, and you said you wanted me to come pick you up?"
Nancy's voice was both relaxed and sober. Primrose looked at the time bewilderedly, covering her mouth and continuing to yawn.
"Now that I wake up, where are you? Don't tell me you parked your car in front of my house?"
When Nancy heard this, she smiled faintly; of course, she did not.
"I am not stupid enough to wait at your door. Now I'm about to drive out of the house; give you 20 minutes to change and appear in front of me."
Primrose replied, then quickly sat up and looked around. Yesterday, after texting Nancy, she closed her eyes and went to sleep; she forgot to set the alarm. Fortunately, Nancy is a careful person, so before going to pick her up, she called to wake her up.
Primrose lazily stretched out into the bathroom, quickly brushed her teeth, washed her face, and changed into an elegant business suit. She didn't have much time to put on makeup, so she only put on light makeup, chose an attractive red lipstick, went downstairs, and happened to see Joel slowly going upstairs.
"Wake up? I was going to wake you up; has Nancy come to pick you up yet?"
Normally, by this time Joel had finished cooking breakfast and went up to Primrose's room to wake her up so she could eat while it was still hot, so when he saw Primrose come down seriously, he was a bit surprised. Primrose casually nodded, said Nancy had arrived early, then said goodbye to Joel before leaving.
As expected of Primrose, when she stepped out the door, Nancy's car was just parked. She gracefully approached and sat down in the passenger seat of the car under Nancy's questioning gaze. After the car drove for a while, Nancy finally spoke up.
"Primrose, honestly tell me, what happened? Are you and Joel so mad at each other that in the morning you don't want to meet him, but you have to drag the miserable person that I come to pick you up and have breakfast with you?"
Nancy is the one who understands Primrose's personality the most; if nothing happened, Primrose would never have left the house so early. Since the two became close, Primrose has always been at home eating breakfasts prepared by the housemaid, and more recently, it's been cooked by Joel.
"Nancy, tell me, if Joel's ex came back now and wanted to meet up, how would he feel? Did he agree to meet you?"
Primrose's question made Nancy look suspiciously over: what kind of bloody plot is that? No wonder Primrose insisted yesterday that she should come to pick her up early in the morning; it turned out to be because of this.
"I don't know either; I'm just like you. I don't understand how Joel and Auntie's relationship is or why they broke up, so it's hard to conclude. Have you tried talking to Joel, or do you know how Joel reacts to his ex's date?"
Primrose shook her head dejectedly.
"If I had known, I wouldn't be in this mess right now."
