Chapter 600: Once Doormat Now Untouchable
----
Chapter 600
Although the driver was nervous, his hands stayed steady on the
wheel.
The police officer who had been about to approach their car
was Called back by someone beside him.
Sydney's heart leapt into her throat. This was likely her best
chance to escape, a chance that would not drag Julian into
danger.
The windows were locked. She could not roll them down.
Ignoring the pain burning across her scalp, she suddenly lunged
toward the window and pounded against it with all her strength.
Less than two seconds passed before a powerful force seized
her from above and yanked her backward.
Pain exploded through her body as she slammed into the
seatback. Tears welled in her eyes as she cried out, "If you can't
get out of Jouleston, Julian finding you is only a matter of time!
When that happens, you'll all be finished. You might as well let
me go now!"
The bespectacled man knew she was not bluffing. That was
exactly why they were trying to leave Jouleston as fast as
possible. They feared Julian's power here.
----
Dealing with Julian inside Jouleston was almost impossible. If
Julian lived, they would die.
“If | let you go now, I'm finished either way." Once they were
completely out of the police's sight, the bespectacled man
finally spoke in a calmer tone. "Since the ending is the same no
matter what, why wouldn't | gamble once?"
Sydney had just opened her mouth when he suddenly raised his
hand and struck hard at the back of her neck.
She had no time to resist. Darkness swallowed her vision, and
she lost consciousness.
On the top floor of Sterling Corp., Caleb paced back and forth,
unable to settle himself as he stared at Julian. "So we just sit
here?"
Julian stood in silence, his gaze dark and heavy as it rested on
the city beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows. From time to time,
his eyes flicked to the phone lying on the desk
Caleb could not remain calm. He fixed his eyes on Julian. "I
thought you cared deeply about Sydney. But now that something
has happened to her, you're just..."
The unfinished sentence pierced straight through the emotions
----
Julian had been suppressing, He turned sharply, his eyes thick
with restrained fury. “If it were not for your unscrupulous tactics,
would she have been kidnapped?"
Caleb froze. It was true. In the end, the responsibility lay with
him. If he had not clung to the antidote and refused to let go,
others would not have found an opening.
He had never intended to put Sydney in danger.
The thought of her current, uncontrollable situation tightened his
breathing. "Now is not the time to argue about this. As long as
Sydney is brought back safely, you can deal with me however
you want. I'll accept it. She's pregnant. If anything goes wrong..."
How could Julian not know that? How could he not be anxious?
The other side was simply too cautious. Even Nathan had failed
to lock onto their exact trail.
Elliot knocked and entered. "Mr. Sterling, Nathan just locked
onto a Maybach that passed a highway checkpoint, but the
license plate doesn't match the one that picked up Ms. Wilson."
“That's not important," Caleb said at once. "It's probably still my
car, just with fake plates."
After all, there were only two cars of that model in all of
Jouleston.
----
Julian neither confirmed nor denied it. He only asked, "Did they
leave the city?"
"No." Elliot shook his head. "That's the strange part. They made a
sudden U-turn at the highway entrance.”
"Which direction did they go?"
"Back toward the city center. Ten minutes ago, they entered a
hotel parking garage. Peter is already leading people there,”
Elliot reported.
Julian considered this briefly, then said, "There's no need to go."
“What?”
"Tell Nathan not to go to the hotel." Julian clenched his jaw, his
voice cold and sharp. "Have him lock onto every vehicle that
exits that hotel parking garage during this period."
Caleb caught on as well. "They're switching cars.”
This group was highly experienced
Elliot immediately contacted Nathan. Then he looked back at
Julian. "The Hutton family also asked whether you'll be attending
tonight's gala."
Under normal circumstances, the answer would have been no.
----
But given Sydney's relationship with the Huttons.
