Chapter 598: Once Doormat Now Untouchable
----
Chapter 598
At this point, Dorothy no longer dared to stop him. She could
hear the urgency in Julian's voice. The fact that he had not
stormed straight into the family hall already showed restraint
and respect for her help in obtaining the antidote.
She turned to the housekeeper and spoke decisively. "Take Mr.
Sterling to the family hall.”
Surprise flickered through Julian's eyes. Outsiders rarely gained
access to the family hall. Given the urgency, he did not hesitate
and headed there at once.
George, who stood guard outside, looked up and flinched at the
murderous chill on Julian's face. After the housekeeper
explained the situation, he hurriedly said, "I'll go call Mr.
Hampton right away."
"No need.”
Before the words could fully register, Julian stepped straight into
the hall.
George reacted too late to stop him. Fortunately, the
housekeeper spoke up in time. “The old madam allowed Mr.
Sterling to enter."
George froze, cold sweat spreading across his palms. No sound
----
came from inside for the moment, yet his heart pounded wildly.
This was not someone to provoke. If Sydney truly had been
taken by Caleb, the outcome would be disastrous.
Caleb was kneeling inside the hall. When he heard the door
open, he assumed it was George.
“George, you don't need to sneak me out behind Grandma's back
“Where is Syd?" The cold, razor-sharp voice cut him off mid-
sentence.
Caleb stiffened and turned to see Julian standing there, his face
dark with fury.
Julian's collusion with Dorothy to trick him into handing over the
antidote had already left Caleb simmering with anger. Hearing
this accusation now, he had no reason to respond kindly. "You're
asking me where she is?”
Since the divorce, when had he known Sydney's whereabouts?
Especially after she became involved with Julian.
Julian's gaze was sharp and unyielding. "She received a call
from you 50 minutes ago. Your car picked her up afterward. Are
you saying you know nothing about it?"
Only then did Caleb grasp the seriousness of the situation.
----
Something had happened to Sydney.
He sprang to his feet. After kneeling for so long, his legs
buckled, and he braced himself against the table to steady
himself.
“It's impossible that | called her."
Old grudges no longer mattered.
"Fifty minutes ago, | had just arrived at the estate. After that,
George took my phone. If you don't believe me, check the
surveillance."
After returning, he had not gone upstairs. Cameras covered
nearly the entire first floor.
As Caleb spoke, Julian's expression grew colder by the second.
Veins stood out at his temples, and his hands clenched tightly at
his sides.
Caleb hesitated. "You don't believe me?"
Julian did not answer. He turned and strode out, his steps fast
and forceful, as if every second lost might cost him everything.
Caleb froze, then rushed after him. He grabbed his phone back
from George and followed close behind. "After all these years as
friends, you trust me this little?"
----
Julian needed to trust him. Any delay caused by suspicion could
destroy their best chance of finding Sydney.
"Does it matter whether | trust you right now?" Julian did not
slow or look back. His voice was chilly. "Finding Syd is what
matters."
“As if | don't know that." Caleb had already placed a call. After a
brief exchange, his face darkened.
Ignoring how strained their relationship had become, he got into
the car with Julian.
“| found out. After my car was sent to the dealership, one of their
maintenance staff drove it away.”
That meant Sydney truly had been taken in his car.
Inside the limited-edition Maybach...
Sydney had ridden it many times before. She had never felt cold
sink into her bones like this.
Her back pressed hard against the car door. She stared at the
unfamiliar bespectacled man seated beside her.
“Who sent you?" she demanded.
The man grew impatient. "How many times do | have to say it?
----
Mr. Hampton."
Sydney frowned. "I've said just as many times that's impossible."
During those three years of marriage, Caleb had been distant,
but she knew most of the people under him. He would never
allow his people to use force against her.
When she sensed something was wrong earlier and tried to flee,
they gave her no chance at all. They knocked her out with a
sedative.
She woke up ten minutes ago to find the car already heading
toward the outskirts of the city, clearly preparing to merge onto
the highway.
Once they left Jouleston, Julian's chances of finding her would
drop sharply.
Her palms were slick with sweat. "You can tell me the truth. Why
did you kidnap me?"
“If it's something | can do, I'll do it."
The bespectacled man smiled and dropped the pretense. "My
boss wants Julian's life. Can you make that happen?”
He continued in an even tone, "You definitely can. After all, the
person he trusts most right now should be you."
