Chapter 590: Once Doormat Now Untouchable

----

Chapter 590

Normally, with Albus backing her, Diana decided nearly all major

and minor matters in the Hutton family.

Even so, she had never openly defied Theodore. She had always

been a dutiful daughter. What she said today could be

considered the first time she had publicly embarrassed him.

Faced with repeated confrontation from his children, Theodore's

expression stiffened. He took the recorder, his voice turning

sharp. "Is there some kind of curse in Jouleston that's turned all

of you siblings into this?”

Florence's expression grew colder. "You should listen to the

recording first."

This was not the first time Theodore had defended Megan. This

time, however, Florence had run out of patience.

She wanted only one thing: to bring her daughter, who had

suffered so much outside, home as soon as possible.

Theodore's face tightened slightly. He said nothing more and

began listening to the recording.

The audio had been compiled from what Diana extracted from

the maids during her last return to Brimcrest.

----

With each sentence, Theodore's expression grew more

complicated.

Before the recording finished, Diana's phone vibrated. She

stepped aside to answer it. "Any news?"

"Yes, but it isn't good.”

After receiving the component analysis report, Nina had

immediately mobilized every available resource. She traced the

poison's origin and the whereabouts of the antidote.

"Go on,” Diana said.

Nina briefly explained the poison's background before

continuing. “There is only one antidote, and it was purchased at

a high price by Ms. Megan."

“And the formula?”

Nina's explanation was concise. "There isn't one. The person

who developed the poison died last year. His family believed he

had committed too many sins, so they cremated both the

poison and antidote formulas with him.

“No one expected that his former assistant had secretly kept a

finished dose and sold it at a high price to Ms. Megan ten days

ago.

----

Diana had not anticipated this outcome. By the time she ended

the call, her face had gone completely cold. She did not even

glance at Theodore's reaction to the recording.

Her heels struck the floor sharply as she strode upstairs, each

step landing with a sound that unsettled everyone who heard it.

The moment she shoved the door open, Megan jumped in fright.

“Diana, you're in such a rush. What is it?" Her tone carried

undisguised provocation.

She had already seen Theodore arrive from the balcony. Diana

no longer frightened her.

Diana had no interest in trading words. "Give me the antidote.

Name your price.”

She had to admit it. When it came to viciousness, no one

surpassed Megan.

Years ago, out of jealousy, Megan had directly caused two-year-

old Vee to disappear.

Despite the Huttons exhausting every possible means, it had

taken more than 20 years to find her.

Now, fearing that Vee's return would threaten her position,

Megan had gone to extreme lengths to obtain a one-of-a-kind

----

poison.

Megan curved her lips, as if she had heard a joke. "Are you

bowing your head to me? Someone like you is lowering yourself?

With no one else present, she dropped all pretense.

She knew better than anyone that the person in the Hutton

family who disliked her most was Diana.

Diana showed no surprise at her true face. "You can see it that

way.”

Lowering her head for her sister was not something she found

difficult.

Megan folded one arm across her chest and wagged a finger. "

Diana, that's not how bowing your head works. Do you

remember how | humbled myself back then, before your whole

family finally agreed to let me stay with the Huttons?"

Diana remembered it clearly.

Back then, Megan's parents had both died. They left no

inheritance, only mountains of debt

When Theodore first brought her home, he said it was

temporary. Once her birthday passed, she would be sent away.

----

The Huttons thought a little help would not hurt. Letting her stay

for a time seemed reasonable. Even transferring ownership of

an unused apartment to her name and assigning a housekeeper

would not have been out of the question.

They considered it a good deed for future generations.

No one expected that on her birthday, Theodore would formally

propose adopting her. From that day on, she would be publicly

known as the Hutton family’s third daughter.

Aside from Theodore, who else could accept that?

Megan had not wanted to leave. She had dropped to her knees

on the spot, impossible to pull up, and tearfully begged every

Hutton.

In the end, Elizabeth softened. Unable to bear the sight, she

finally relented.

Diana looked at Megan coldly and spoke evenly. "You want me

to get on my knees?”

Megan smiled.

The door was suddenly kicked open, slamming into the wall

before rebounding.

Raymond stepped in front of Diana. Behind his gold-rimmed

----

glasses, his gaze was icy and his teeth clenched. "You want my

sister to kneel to you? Do you think you're worthy? You've

leached off our family all these years, and you really started

believing you were something special?"
