Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Want a Divorce? I’ll Help You

"Alright, Chelsea, that’s enough..."

For once, Theodore Grant actually softened his tone. Or maybe he just wasn’t taking me seriously at all. He tried to take my hand again, but I shook him off.

I was still fuming, and I wasn’t sure if it was because of the emotional rollercoaster, but I felt a faint discomfort in my lower abdomen.

I took a deep breath, trying to get my emotions under control.

"There’s been nothing between her and me for a long time," Theodore’s voice was low. "Besides, we’re already married..."

As he spoke, he wrapped his arms around me from behind. "You’re the real ’Mrs. Grant.’"

"Let go of me." I struggled instinctively, but Theodore only held me tighter.

"Come on, don’t be angry, okay?"

It was an incredibly doting gesture, a side of Theodore I had never seen before.

I had always been the one trying to please Theodore. This was the first time he’d ever tried to coax me...

Normally, a small gesture like this would have made me happy for days.

But right now, I couldn’t feel happy at all.

I took a deep breath. "Clara Langley is divorced."

"Don’t be ridiculous." Theodore didn’t believe me at all.

So I just pulled out my phone, opened Clara Langley’s social media feed, and said, "See for yourself."

Theodore merely glanced at it before pulling me into his arms again. His voice was warm and unhurried. "She can get divorced if she wants. We’ll live our lives..."

I looked back at him, unsure if he meant what he was saying.

’Was I really just being paranoid and misunderstanding him?’

While my mind was racing, I heard Theodore speak into the intercom, summoning his secretary to the office.

Seeing someone was coming in, I quickly struggled out of Theodore’s embrace.

Theodore didn’t seem to mind. He simply gave his orders, "Cancel all my afternoon appointments... Also, contact Director Miller at Kington University Hospital for me. Tell him it’s for the appointment I arranged with him earlier."

I glanced back in surprise. ’Director Miller from Kington University Hospital?’

He was one of the top internal medicine specialists in all of Kington. For an ordinary person, it was hard enough to see him, let alone get an appointment.

I had been trying to get an appointment with him for a while, but I never could.

"What’s wrong?" Seeing that I was still dazed, Theodore’s lips curved into a slight smile. "Didn’t you say you were going to see your mother today?"

"Is... is this appointment with Director Miller for my mother?"

Theodore nodded.

I took a deep breath. Just the thought that Theodore had been keeping my mother’s situation in mind made my heart ache with a tender warmth.

Theodore and I had been married for two years, and we’d kept it a secret for two years.

Besides the Grant Family and Theodore’s close friends, almost no one knew I existed.

And in those two years, Theodore had treated me fairly well. In front of others, he always gave me all the respect and dignity befitting ’Mrs. Grant.’

After a ten-year crush, just being able to marry him was the greatest happiness I could ask for. I knew I should be content...

’Am I being too sensitive?’

’Even if Clara Langley was Theodore’s first love, his ’one that got away,’ so much time has passed. They both got married to other people. So what if she’s divorced now?’

’Would Theodore really divorce me to be with her?’

’Not to mention, my mother is still looking forward to my wedding with Theodore, and now... I’m pregnant with his child...’

’Could it be the pregnancy that’s making me so emotional and sensitive?’

At that thought, I mustered up my courage. "Theodore, there’s something I need to tell you..."

But before I could finish, Theodore’s phone suddenly rang.

My gaze followed his. When I saw the name ’Clara Langley’ on the caller ID, the words on the tip of my tongue were forced back down my throat.

I pushed him away and stepped out of his embrace. "You should get that."

"Don’t worry about her." Theodore rejected the call. "What were you about to say?"

"I..."

But before I could speak, the phone rang again.

It was Clara Langley again.

Theodore frowned at the screen. Though he looked annoyed, he still pressed the answer key. "Hello, Clara Langley. Is there no end to this?"

I quietly turned my head away, no longer looking at him. I lowered my gaze to my belly—

This little life, whose arrival I had once so eagerly anticipated, now only filled me with a sense of desolation...

My hand instinctively went to my belly as I fought to control my emotions.

"What?!" Theodore’s expression suddenly grew tense. "Okay, I get it. Stay where you are and don’t move. I’m on my way!"

With that, he hung up and looked at me. "Clara was in a car accident. I have to go."

As he spoke, he grabbed his car keys from the desk and headed for the door.

"Theodore..."

I reached out instinctively to stop him, my face a mask of disbelief.

Just then, as he reached the door, Theodore seemed to remember something. He glanced back at me, a flicker of conflict on his face, but he spoke anyway. "Chelsea, I’ll have my secretary arrange a car to take you home. We’ll go to Kington University Hospital to see your mom another day."

After saying that, Theodore turned and walked out.

I stared blankly at his retreating back, feeling as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over my head. A grim chill spread through me, from head to toe...

In that instant, I suddenly felt the urge to laugh.

So—

Between me and Clara Langley, Theodore still chose her!

He abandoned me...

My gaze fell. My hand slowly stroked my belly, and I suddenly felt that maybe... I shouldn’t keep this child.

...

I didn’t let the secretary drive me. Instead, I walked out of the company building alone.

The massive LED screen was still playing Clara Langley’s commercial. Her smile was brilliant and dazzling, as if mocking my despair.

And just a short distance from the building, I saw the so-called ’car accident’ that Clara Langley had mentioned...

A solid black Maybach was parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights flashing. A van was right up against its rear bumper. It was just a simple fender-bender; it probably didn’t even chip the paint.

A moment later, Theodore’s car pulled up. The door opened, and he got out with a frown on his face.

Seeing this, Noah Brown immediately went up to him, seeming to explain something.

Just then, Clara Langley also got out of her car. She rubbed her forehead, then brushed her bangs aside and leaned toward Theodore, pouting as if complaining about something.

Watching the intimate interaction between the handsome man and the beautiful woman, they looked like a match made in heaven.

Gradually, my vision began to blur. I instinctively raised a hand, only then feeling the wetness on my cheeks.

But just as I was wiping my tears, a car suddenly pulled up beside me.

The door opened. I saw a pair of black military boots hit the pavement. As the man stepped out of the car, the crisp lines of his trousers outlined the muscles of his legs, and his shadow stretched long.

The scorching golden sunlight of summer cast itself upon him. I instinctively looked up and finally saw the man’s face clearly.

His features were sharp and handsome, with bold brows and bright eyes. He radiated an air of untamable, wild arrogance.

I furrowed my brow. ’Sebastian Forrest?’

Theodore’s childhood friend, the heir to the Forrest Family—Kington’s most powerful clan—and the bona fide "crown prince" of the Kington Circle. Back when they were at Kington University, people called them the "Twin Jewels of Kington U." I just remembered he’d left for a research institute the year Theodore and I got married...

’What was he doing here?’

"Junior? It really is you?" Sebastian Forrest’s lips curled into a smirk. His gaze seemed teasing, but his ink-black eyes were as deep and still as an ancient well, making it impossible to read their true meaning. "What are you doing here crying all by yourself?"

"I wasn’t crying..."

Of course, I wasn’t about to admit I’d been crying in front of a stranger, let alone one of Theodore’s childhood friends.

Sebastian Forrest just chuckled, clearly not bothered by my denial. He glanced at the car accident scene in the distance, then brought his gaze back to me. "Heading back to the Grant Estate? It’s on my way. I can give you a lift."

"No, thanks. I..."

But before I could finish, Sebastian Forrest just smiled. "How about this? I can go get Theodore and have him take you home."

"No!" The word slipped out instinctively.

Sebastian Forrest grinned, turned to open the car door, and leaned an arm against the frame, tilting his head at me. "Then get in."

I had no choice but to compromise. "I’m not going home. I need to go to Kington University Hospital."

"Let’s go. That’s on the way, too. I’ll take you."

"..."

Soon, the car was driving slowly past Theodore and Clara Langley. I couldn’t help but turn to look at them, only to see Clara suddenly grab the collar of Theodore’s jacket with a panicked look on her face and hide in his arms...

I tore my gaze away, averting my eyes from the scene outside. But my attention landed on the well-defined fingers resting lightly on the steering wheel after turning it in a wide arc.

I had to admit, the Creator played favorites.

A handsome face, a privileged family background, a brilliant mind, and remarkable skills...

Not a single flaw.

Just like Theodore, he was one of heaven’s favored sons.

"Junior, have you been well all these years?"

As my mind wandered, the man’s low voice broke the silence. I instinctively looked up and met a pair of jet-black eyes.

"I’ve been fine." I quickly averted my gaze.

Because of my crush on Theodore back then, I knew the people around him like the back of my hand. I was well aware that this Young Master Forrest had a wild and arrogant personality. His family background was so illustrious that he was not someone to be trifled with.

On top of that, after years of training at the research institute, he carried an intimidating aura and was naturally imposing without needing to be angry.

Sebastian Forrest glanced at me, then turned his gaze back to the road ahead. His eyes became a bottomless, dark shade, as deep and black as spilled ink.

"You’re still as bad at lying as ever, Junior..."

I turned to him in surprise.

"My apologies..." Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a slight smile. His words were polite, but his expression held not a trace of apology. "I happened to overhear you and Theodore arguing outside the door just now..."

’Arguing?’

I froze for a moment. The first thing I did was look down at his shoes—a pair of ink-black military boots.

It was only then that I belatedly realized the dark shadow I’d seen flash past the door while Theodore and I were arguing had been Sebastian Forrest.

’He must have been there to see Theodore...’

’But why did he suddenly leave?’

And just as my mind was racing, Sebastian Forrest turned his head to look at me, a wild grin on his face. "Junior, want a divorce? I can help you with that."
