Chapter 56: Chapter 56

Lennox winced as he tried to open his eyes. His head felt it was splitting in on itself but he didn't care about it as he forced his eyes open and glanced around the room, his eyes searching for Sophia as his gut clenched in a surge of panic, his heart beating erratically against his chest in fear.

Lennox pushed himself off the bed and tumbled to the floor, wincing as the injection attached to his vein got yanked out. He groaned as the room darkened and spun around him.

Hands clutched around his waist and someone was lifting him until he was laying on the bed but he refused to lay down, he couldn't give up, not when he had not seen Sophia yet so he shoved at the person blindly and the individual let go of him and stepped back. Lennox took in a deep breath and calmed down enough for his vision to clear.

Lennox stared at the man in the room, recognizing him as one of his father's bodyguards. The door opened and his parents walked in.

"Where is Sophia?" He asked, his throat raw and his voice raspy in desperation.

"Sophia? Where you with her?" She asked, surprise altering her stricken feature. "You were the only one we found in the car. I thought we were going to lose you, my child, I was so scared Lennox, don't ever do this again" Cara begged, her eyes filling up with tears.

Lennox glanced from her to his Dad, then he burst out laughing, the sound of it so eerie that goosebumps beaded his mother's skin.

"What's wrong with you? Are you alright... Lennox.. " she asked worriedly and stepped closer to him.

Lennox's laughter died abruptly as it had started and he stared at both his parents with a grave look. "Do you both think I'm stupid?".

Cara glanced at Ray, then back at Lennox... "I don't understand son".

Lennox snapped. "Don't call me that! Not now, not ever. Where is Sophia".

"Maybe she ran off, how are we supposed to know where the girl has gone to. She wasn't in the car...".

"Spare me the lies mother. I've lived and endured you both for years, you think I don't know how everything works with you two".

"If you know that!" Ray's voice rends through the room boisterously. "Then stop this madness this very instant and forget about that woman".

Lennox was on his feet in an instant and he clenched his fist in anger as the pain in his chest surged and gathered around his throat making it difficult to breathe.

"No, you should stop your madness. Do you both call yourself parents, do you both think I believe for a second that you care about me? I don't because that's just an absurd concept I'd be ludicrous to believe in. You both don't care about anything but yourself and whatever business enterprise you're engaged in. But it was your way of doing things and I respected that, stayed out of your way and your life. Right now I'd really appreciate it if the same courtesy is extended to me. Where is Sophia" he gritted out, his breaths forcing their way out of his lungs harshly as he stared at his father who stood unflinchingly with a dark furious look on his face.

"No son of mine will speak to me so disrespectfully, not after everything I had to do to make sure he had a good life".

Lennox scoffed in disbelief. "You did nothing but use me, father. I've helped you with the company, met different investors, and came up with ideas to expand your business, I did it all just because I wanted you to love me, to be proud of me but I was never enough was I. You only saw my failures and my weaknesses but Sophia saw me, she saw the real me, and now what? you're going to come between us and try to keep us apart, huh! Is that what you want to do".

Cara rushed forward and grabbed his arm. "That's not true son . We've always taken care of you... We are your parents. We see the real you, we love you a lot and we make all these decisions so that you can be happy".

Lennox yanked his arms out of her hold. "I know it's easy to lie to me but when will you stop lying to yourself mother. You both care only about your happiness and everyone else is secondary. You both made into a freaking robot. You were never there for me and even when you were I had to listen to you both bringing me down until I felt worthless... Why can't you let me be happy, why do I need to be the only one making sacrifices..."

"Enough! This is pathetic. Forget about that woman and this is the last time we'll be having this discussion". He said and turned to go.

Lennox straightened and stared at the spot where he had stood. "If anything happens to Sophia then you can kiss your career goodbye, Mr. Lennox Ray." He said and Ray paused in his stride and turned to face him.

"What?".

Lennox exhaled harshly. "As you said, I'm your son and maybe your evil ways have rubbed off on me but I know how your mind works hence why I've been collecting evidence of all your incriminating activities. If you don't want to spend the rest of your life in prison, then I suggest you give me what I want and stay the hell out of my life" he said, then glanced at his father who watched him with eyes as red as hot coals, his hand trembling on the cane he held.

Cara opened her mouth to speak then closed them back as his threat floated in the air around them.

"You're bluffing," his father said at last and Lennox stepped closer to him, holding his gaze without fear.

"Hurt Sophia and we'll just see how good my bluff is but I promise you, your scandal would be a lot more shocking than mine, and yours won't just land you in the news father. Do not push me further than you already have" he said darkly, his eyes a frightening shade of coal.

Ray stumbled back a little, then seemed to recover from the shock and stood straighter as he regarded Lennox.

"We're not involved with anything related to Sophia, Jenny, your dead girlfriend's cousin has her for reasons she didn't quite specify with us" he got out, his hold tightening on his stick.

"Yes son, that girl Jenny is really suspicious, she told us she was going to bring Sophia to the hospital then later called to tell us that they had some problems on their way... But they're at the old warehouse, the abandoned one her family used to store their plants" his mother rushed out, nodding along as she spoke.

Lennox didn't listen to their voices as he stumbled out of the room, knowing that they would always try to save their heads when the fire got too hot. They didn't care who had to take the burnt so long as they were safe.

Lennox looked out the corridor and then took out his phone.

"Wait for me Sophia. I'm coming to get you".
