Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Sophia watched as Lennox stirred when the ray of sun hit his face, his eyes squeezing and making her heart tug in her chest. She sighed in contentment, knowing that she was completely whipped for him because she wasn't even freaking out about having sex with him all out of the blue, or that it had also been unprotected sex, and that she could end up becoming pregnant. The last part was a bit daunting but what they shared had been such a mind-blowing, out-of-this-world experience for her and she planned to treasure every minute of it.
Lennox's eyes fluttered open, his dark lashes prominent against his face because of the sunlight and Sophia fought the urge to kiss them, as if staring at him wasn't creepy enough.
Lennox smiled as he saw her watching him, a blush spreading over his cheek and it was so adorable Sophia almost jumped him.
"Morning" he whispered, his voice scratchy and deep. Sophia decided she definitely wanted to wake up next to him all day every day just to hear him talk.
"Morning to you too handsome" she smiled, watching as the blush deepened.
"How long have you been watching me," he asked, his shyness making Sophia's heart flutter.
"As soon as I woke up. You looked irresistible, I couldn't help myself" she confessed, and he laughed.
"I could get used to this" he murmured, seating up and leaning towards her. "You are beautiful".
"No. You are beautiful" Sophia retorted and he laughed, the sound carrying through the room, and soaking into her skin and she knew she was hopelessly in love.
Lennox stared at her, before entwining their fingers together and looking serious. "I'm sorry about everything I said... "
"Shhhh" she cut in, pressing a finger against his lips, the little action firing up her need for him.
"I already forgave you for them, so let's just move forward from here on ok".
"I'm clean" he suddenly muttered, and she stared at him, her brows furrowing. "I mean, after Melissa's death, I haven't been with anyone".
"Really?" She asked, her heart thumping at the little confession. Lennox nodded, and Sophia felt the pull in her chest tightening. It thrilled her to know that he had not been with anyone after Melissa's death and that it was her that drove him so crazy that he broke his resolve and it was also thoughtful of him to tell her before she asked about it cause that made the nagging doubts at the back of her mind disappear. "I feel so honored" she teased.
He laughed, tugging her against his chest and inhaling her scent like he couldn't get enough of it. "That's my line, Sophia. I love you."
Sophia grinned. "I love you too".

Lennox smiled as he walked past the workers on his floor and they were so stunned by it that they forgot to greet him, and only caught themselves when he rounded the corner to his office. In their panic, they shouted their greetings after him forgetting the voice-raising rule but he didn't mind. He was in a good mood and nothing could take that away. He would have stayed in bed with Sophia all day but it turned out she was a workaholic and she had to attend a seminar on his behalf, which sucked.
Lennox had tried his best to persuade her to stay, using all the tricks he knew, but it turned out she was much trickier. His smile widened as he opened the door to his office, then he froze as he came face to face with Jenny. They both stared at each other in surprise.
"Wow, I have never seen you smile like this before... This is so... I don't even know how to explain it".
Lennox cleared his throat, his brows furrowing. "What are you doing here?".
Jenny paused, glancing at her sides before looking back at him. "What do you mean by that question. Can't I come to say hi to my friend".
"That's not what I meant. I just don't want you coming here because the workers might start spreading rumors about me and you, I also can't entertain visitors at the office".
Jenny's jaw dropped as she struggled to form words. "Why are you acting this way. Are you still stuck up on your grief over Melissa, because I thought you were over that... I thought you were ready to move on".
Lennox pinched the bridge of his nose, getting frustrated. "Look Jenny, I don't have time for this... I have work and... "
"You're screwing your damn assistant aren't you," she asked, her voice filled with venom and Lennox saw red.
"Don't speak about her in that manner".
Jenny gasped in shock. "Excuse me".
"I mean it Jenny. I'm in love with Sophia and I wouldn't want you to do or say anything to upset her. You should stop coming here".
Jenny's face paled as if he'd slapped her. "You love her? You also said you loved Melissa, and what did you do, you led her to her death" she yelled in his face, jabbing a finger in his chest.
Lennox grabbed her hand, looking dead into her eyes.
"I didn't kill Melissa" he gritted out before letting her go and she took a step back, glaring at him. Lennox couldn't understand why she was suddenly saying that to him after many years of her assuring him that he was not to blame.
"Is that what you think huh? Look at it from any angle you want Lennox, but you caused her death, and I know you mourned for such a long time but now you're going to ridicule her by dating one of your workers".
Lennox lost his temper. "And I guess if I went out with her cousin, that wouldn't be ridiculing her right" he snapped, and Jenny gaped at him.
"You've been a good friend Jenny, but you need to go get a life".
"I met you first Lennox. If you hadn't gone ahead to fall for Melissa, we would have been together" she cried. Lennox swore, stopping himself from grabbing her shoulders and shaking some sense Into her.
"We can never be together Jenny, please try to understand that. I love Sophia and I'm never going to leave her for anything in the world".
"Your parents will never accept her Lennox, so you better think twice about this, cause in the end you're only going to end up hurting her".
Lennox's jaw clenched as he stood unmoving, a voice in the back of his head screaming that she was right. His parents would probably make Sophia's life a living hell, but he wouldn't let them, he swore. They'll never be able to hurt her, ever.
"I will protect Sophia. She's my responsibility now so you don't have to worry about that" he got out in a clipped voice, dismissing her. He walked past her towards his desk and Jenny turned to face him as she adjusted her bag strap, her eyes red-rimmed.
"I hate you so much, Lennox. You've hurt me so many times when all I did was love you. I hope your love last Lennox, I really do because once you hit rock bottom again, I won't be there for you to lean on. Goodbye," she said and stepped out of his office.
Lennox sighed, dragging his hands through his hair.
"Now what!".
