Chapter 39: Chapter 39
Andria opened her eyes, surprised to see that she wasn't alone in the room and that her three friends were sitting around her. Sophia was sitting beside her bed, asleep, and holding her hand, Sana was busy reading something on her phone, her face scrunched up in concentration, while Bianca was typing on her laptop, her brows furrowed in concentration.
Andria moved her hand, and Sophia jumped, her eyes flying open and she looked around disoriented until her gaze focused on Andria. Sophia looked alert.
"Are you alright. The doctor said you haven't been eating right, and that you've been working yourself too hard, why did you do that huh, why didn't you say anything to any of us".
Bianca and Sana scrambled to her side.
"She's just waking up, can you let her breath for a second" Sana reprimanded and Sophia pouted, pulling back to give her more room.
Andria's eyes reddened as her gaze darted around the three faces staring at her in worry. She felt that she didn't deserve their concern not after what she'd done to ruin their friendship, they shouldn't have even bothered to wait around for her to wake.
"Stop beating yourself up Andria, if we'd known this competition was really tough for you, we wouldn't have left you on your own. I'm so sorry for everything Andria" Sophia apologized, unable to stand the silent awkward atmosphere.
Andria burst into tears and Sophia quickly hugged her. "That's enough already. Stop crying, you're going to make me cry too" she got out shakily when Bianca pulled her away from the embrace.
"I get that y'all want to cry and all, but before we proceed further, I think Andria needs to tell us something and then we'll decide if we are going to forgive her, same goes for you Sana," she said crossing her arms.
Andria sniffled and Sana made to protest, but she seemed to force her mouth shut at the last moment. Bianca arched an eyebrow, waiting patiently.
"I'm sorry for what I did, I'm sorry for breaking us up. I was under a lot of pressure so I was lashing out at everyone at the time and I shouldn't have. I was jealous of you Sophia, cause I thought you didn't have it bad as the rest of us, please can you forgive me" she asked, looking at each face.
"I'm sorry too for what it's worth. Don't have an excuse, and I know that's shitty of me, but I will try to become a better person" Sana got out.
Sophia glanced at Bianca who still looked skeptical.
"Come on, they already said sorry".
"I Know and I already forgave their asses, just wanted them to sweat a little," she said and Sana launched at her, the both of them tumbling into the couch.
"I hate you so much" Sana yelled and Bianca just laughed as she extricated herself from her hold.
"Feeling's fucking mutual. You thought it was going to be easy didn't you, but for reals, you both need to be better people"
Andria smiled, sighing in relief. "You're right Bianca, but spare our fragile little heart. Can't you be softhearted like Sophia here".
Sophia nodded, and Bianca shook her head.
"She's too softhearted and that's why she keeps getting her heart broken".
"It was just this one time" Sophia defended hotly.
"Of course, it is" Bianca retorted.
Sophia threw her hands up in frustration and then slumped into the couch. "I'm exhausted, so I won't argue with you both anymore".
Sana stepped closer to Sophia. "So who broke your heart. I'm dying to know and it's making me cranky".
Sophia crossed her arms, narrowing her gaze. "What about you and Oliver... something is going on isn't there".
Sana's cheeks reddened as she subtly tried to avoid their gazes. Her voice was high-pitched when she finally spoke. "Nothing is going on, don't be ridiculous".
"There's definitely something going on cause you're acting suspiciously right now."
Andria smiled. "Sana and Oliver are dating right, so I guess that's why they are closer".
Bianca gave a nod. "That might be the reason but you said once the competition was over you'd break up with him, so is this where it ends for you both".
Sana wrung her fingers. "We plan to stay together for one more month, and then we'll see how we'd go from there".
They all nodded, accepting the explanation and unanimously deciding to let it go since Sana looked uncomfortable.
Andria gazed at Sophia because she knew she'd avoided the question about who had broken her heart.
Sophia sighed. "Fine... It's Lennox".
Sana stared, confusion written all over her face. "What do you mean it's Lennox, are y'all still fighting about him not needing an assistant".
Bianca scoffed. "You have no idea what water has been going under this bridge bestie".
Sana glared then turned back to face Sophia.
"What's going on?"
"It's a short story really. I might have mistakingly fallen in love with my boss, and we might have mistakingly kissed, and I thought we both felt the same way, cause why will you just go around and kiss people for no reason, and then tell them to their faces that it was a mistake... "
"You said it was a mistake yourself just now" Sana cut in, her eyes still blown wide from listening to Sophia's confession.
"Of course, I'd say that cause that was what it was to that jerk anyway, so it's the same for me. Ugh, this is so frustrating and I hate talking about it."
"You fell in love with Lennox... I mean he's so mean to you, and I thought you wanted revenge. I can't believe you'd fall for a bully".
"Exactly!" Sophia wailed. "I can't even wrap my head around it. It's just that I can't help myself when I'm near him. I just want him to be happy all the time because every time I see him sad, it feels like I'm suffocating" Sophia confessed then smacked herself, her finger splaying across her face. "This is so annoying".
"Well, at least he's not ugly" Sana got out and they all turned to give her the suffering look. "What? I'm just saying Lennox is the hottest guy I'd ever seen, and he's got a great body, so I'm not surprised that Sophia is crazy over him".
"I'm not crazy over him!" Sophia snapped, showing some teeth and Sana backed off, raising her hand in surrender.
"Chill Sis, that was my bad".
"But if you like Lennox, why don't you just confess," Andria asked and Sophia stared at her as if she'd grown a second head. Bianca and Sana also shook their head.
"Don't do that. We might do desperate shit sometimes, but we don't do desperate when it comes to the matter of the heart" Bianca recited like an anthem.
"Being in love is being vulnerable, or at least making yourself vulnerable to another person" Andria argued.
"That's the shit that gets your heart broken. Sophia you don't need to confess cause he already showed you that he's not interested, also there's the model whom he seemed into and I'm telling you that's a clear sign to run in the other direction". Bianca said, arching a brow at Andria. "You and Jonathan worked out but sir Lennox is not Jonathan, so don't expect the same result".
"Here we go with drama again" Sana muttered, garnering their attention.
"Bianca is right. I need to put glue on my heart before it breaks further".
"And that's on period".
Sana rolled her eyes. "How about we conduct another investigation on this Jenny Mark. She can't just come out of nowhere and steal Lennox right in front of you".
"How much will this favor cost me," Sophia asked and Sana smirked.
"Consider it as a gift. I'll take care of it."
Andria chuckled feeling more comfortable as her friends argued back and forth. She was happy not to have completely ruined everything.
Bianca sat beside her. "Let's all just agree that you, my dear Sophia are just going to do your job as sir Lennox's assistant until we have the investigation report. Got it".
"Got it. But then after that what".
"After that, you decide on whether to chase after him or not".
"Oh! Those are my only options".
"Well maybe you're just infatuated right now, and you might not even like him by the time we get back the results of the investigations," Sana said, shrugging.
Sophia nodded with a look of trepidation on her face.
Andria watched her carefully, realizing that whatever Sophia felt was real and wouldn't be going away anytime soon
