Chapter 20: Chapter 20
BAR.
Sophia ordered more shots even as the bartender gave her a skeptical look. Your job is to serve drinks and not to ask questions, or decide who to sell drinks to, except if they were underage, Sophia thought, the fact was that she was not underage hence why she could order as many as she wanted until she fucked up her liver. Sophia was tired of everyone, her boss, her friends if they were even friends anymore, and the whole cause of their break-up was no other than her overbearing Boss Mr. Lennox, and of course Jonathan.
After two more shots, her head was spinning and everything felt fuzzy. She reached for the glass in front of her when the bartender reached out to stop her.
"Hey, you look washed out, I think you should stop now".
Sophia looked up at him, anger raging up her chest. "Don't fucking tell me what to do, you're not the boss of me... I already take orders from my jerk of a boss, and now I have to take orders from you too, let the fuck go" she shouted, yanking the drink out of the hands of the bartender, before giving him the stink eyes, as she tossed it back. She grimaced, then set the glass down. "Pour me another shot" she ordered, as she felt a presence crowding against her back. Warmth crept up her spine, then spread through her body making a shudder ripple through her. Sophia craned her neck to stare at the person, but her vision was distorted.
"Don't pour her another drink, I'll pay her bills" he said dropping a wad of cash on the counter. The bartender's eyes widened as he stared at the cash. He rushed to pick it up as Sophia tried to make out the face of the guy. He looked hot as sin. That much-registered to her fuddled brain.
His warm hands wrapped around her arm, then he yanked her up from the seat earning a string of curses from her lips as she stumbled against him. Sophia giggled as she trailed her hands over his abs before glancing at him from beneath her lashes.
"My, my, my, you must work out a lot, why are you so ripped" she muttered against his chest, inhaling his cologne. His scent was familiar, and she wondered in her haze where she knew it from.
Lennox pushed her away gently, making sure that she was stable on her feet. "What's your address?" He asked, wincing at the noise from the crowd in the bar.
"Damn it all to hell" she yelled, her eyes barely open. "Andria is such a bad friend, how could she say that to me... I have never dated anyone in my whole life, not for my lack of trying tho, so why would I start with her boyfriend, who's not even handsome like my godlike boss" she scoffed then rested her head against his chest.
Lennox raised a brow surprised at her outburst, he was also surprised that she couldn't recognize him. He hated to think about what would have happened if he hadn't followed her after her outburst in his office. Lennox dragged her outside the bar where it was quieter, amidst her rambling, and flirting. He hated to admit it but he found her behavior as a drunk amusing. He stopped beside his car when she shoved him off all of a sudden.
"Lennox is the fucking worst, so fucking arrogant, he's a bloody egoist, I want to pull out his hair every time he talks to me in that freaking condescending tone of his." She yelled then proceeded to mimic him. "You're such an incompetent assistant. Why don't you just quit? Rule number fucking one million says not to do this. Blah blah blah, I wish I can slap him just once to wipe that smug entitled look off his infuriatingly gorgeous face of his, tell me huh" she asked grabbing his shirt. "Why does he get to look so hot when he's so mean" she placed her nose against his shirt sniffing. "why does he get to scent so fucking masculine, why is he so infuriatingly sexy huh, shouldn't the universe be fair and make him look like an ogre, huh," she asked, stomping rapidly on the ground like a child throwing a tantrum.
Lennox fought the urge to grin as he battled her into the car and strapped her in. His heartbeat felt funny as he stared at her face closely. "You do realize, I'm your boss right," he asked, unable to stop himself from tucking her hair behind her ear. Sophia turned to face him, making his breath hitch.
"You're way too nice, so you're definitely not my boss. Drive me home, you're the taxi man".
Lennox chuckled, shaking his head as he shut the door. He walked around the car, took his seat, and started driving, the city light streaking through the glass and casting a glow on her face that made her look ethereal. He forced himself to look away, frowning.
"I have a nasty plan for the jerk, that is if I'm not already fired for my outburst earlier, but it was all his fault, eish" she groaned then smiled, playing with her fingers. "I'm going to make him fall in love with me, not because I like him or anything, I mean he's drop-dead hot, but I don't date mean guys" she got out, her eyes blown wide open like she'd slipped a nationwide secret. "Don't tell anyone ok, this will be our own little secret" she said, tugging at the sleeve of his shirt, then she let go, her face animated. "He's going to be so crazy over me that when my contract is up, he'd be begging me to stay, crawling on his knees and..." she giggled, enjoying the image she was conjuring up in her head. Lennox couldn't fight his grin this time.
"I'm sure you'll succeed, now tell the taxi man your address so he can drop you off at your home". He said, turning to stare at her.
Sophia frowned, her mouth forming a pout that sent sudden heat rushing through Lennox's crotch. He accelerated the car in shock, jerking both of them forward before keeping to the speed limit and slowing down. His heart thundered in his chest as his palms got clammy on the steering wheel. What the fuck was that?.
"What's your address Sophia" he snapped, his voice shaky as he avoided looking at her.
"Don't yell at me, you sound like my horrible boss... I don't know my address, I've thought about it really hard but I can't remember" she whined then slumped over to his side, her head coming to rest on his shoulder. Lennox swore as heat spread from the point of contact all over his skin, shocking him with the intensity of it. He shifted, his pants tightening as he felt himself harden.
"I don't feel so good," Sophia said as she pulled away from him, snapping him out of his sexual daze. It had slammed into him so suddenly after years of him suppressing the feeling that it made him feel dizzy, which was why he hadn't seen the signs that Sophia was about to throw up until it was too late. Sophia gagged, covering her mouth so as not to make a mess. Lennox swerved away from the road so that he park and she'd be able to vomit outside, but the sudden movement of the car had her retching right in the car. Lennox rushed to park her hair from her face, a hand on the steering wheel as he came to a stop. Sophia gasped, feeling sick as she Lennox placed her head back to rest on the seat. Lennox took in her pale face and skin, started the car, and made a U-turn in the direction of his house.
