Obscene World Chapter 55

With a serious expression, Jonas stared at me.

Jonas and two others—Serin and Nira, Eden's friends—were the reason he got away in one piece from the fight with James, son of the Baron of the village.

Mom had told me that they were the ones who had brought unconscious Eden back.

They also came home the other day to check on me.

But after that day, they didn't come again. And I could guess the reason behind this: it wasn't because they didn't want to; it was probably because of my family's state and my sister's return.

I don't think my sister's presence really mattered that much. But they were afraid of my sis. And my sis hated them with passion.

The reason for her hatred. Eden didn't spend time with her.

But the hatred grew stronger as Eden began to change.

'Still, the main reason probably should have been due to my family's state.'

And the next second, my guess was proved right. As Jonas clenched both his fists on his sides, he looked down with a grim expression.

"I know... I am not the one to say. As I... we... just visited you... once." He looked at me. "But... it wasn't because we didn't care. It's... just seeing the state of Aunt Amelia... smiling... trying to reassure us... even though she herself was in so much pain. We... didn't want to give her more stress."

Hearing his words, a thought crossed my mind.

'Eden was surrounded by people who truly cared for him.'

I directed my eyes at Jonas, who was still speaking while looking as if he was going to cry at any moment.

Seeing him like this, my previous life flashed. Where I had no one whom I could call a friend.

"I am sorry that I didn't visit you. But you could have at least called us. We were really worried. I am not blaming you. I-I..." Jonas, after saying this, once more lowered his gaze and began apologizing. "I know I—"

And he kept on apologizing.

'Well, I am at fault. Mom had told me to call them to tell them that I was okay. But...'

I sighed softly, rubbing the back of my head.

"Sigh...!"

'...I forgot.'

Yeah, I forgot. Well, can you blame me? I had a beautiful grandma and family to take care of.

I shook my head, clearing useless thoughts.

And... seeing him.

Who was still rambling a huge-ass apology.

'I should say something.'

I approached him and placed my hands on both of his shoulders, startling him.

"Huh!"

He raised his head and looked at me.

Gaining his attention, I parted my lips to speak up.

"I am sorry—"

"No, no, I am sorry—"

"Listen," I said, squeezing his shoulders.

"..."

"I am sorry. I should've told you guys sooner. I just wasn't in the right headspace when I woke up. I didn't mean to worry you."

I lied.

"I was planning to call you guys today. But, we met..." I trailed off.

My words calmed him down. Before he once more opened his mouth.

"Sorry, I did—"

"Let's stop with apologies," I said, shaking him a little. "If I had been in your place. I would have been upset too."

Releasing him, I turned around.

"So, no need to apologize, ok?"

Turning back, I looked at him.

"..."

"What?"

"Are you not mad at us?"

"Eh! Why would I be mad at you guys?"

Hearing my question. He looked at my face, as if to gauge my emotions, but saw no change.

So... He himself spoke, albeit hesitantly.

"A-about James?"

As his words registered, I understood.

'Now I understand why he was upset.'

'Seeing me in the market, and then hearing that I had already woken days ago, he would have thought that I wasn't talking to them because of the fight with James.'

"Why would I be angry with you guys due to some fucker?" I said incredulously. "And come on, if it weren't for you guys, I would not have been standing in front of you."

'Well, Eden is no more. But if you guys hadn't saved his body. He would have been pronounced dead. And I would not have been able to even transmigrate.'

"But, still—"

"Ah, leave it. As I said, let's stop with apologies and let's go, man. I had it easy with you, but I have to face Serin and Nira next. And you know what it means."

Seeing my nonchalant demeanor, he conceded and smiled. And we started to walk.

After a few seconds, he spoke up again.

"You have really changed."

"You already said that earlier."

"Yeah, well."

"Is it good or bad?"

"Worse."

"What the heck, dude?"

...

"I had come to check on my brother," Jonas said before turning to face me. "And we had also made a plan to check on you today."

"Oh!" I said, leaning a little back on the wooden log I was sitting on. "So we were going to meet either way, huh?"

"Yeah," Jonas replied, from nearby, slumped on the foot of the wooden log.

Right now, we were in the field owned by Jonas's father, Harrison Baker.

This part of the village was where farmlands owned by people living in the middle part of the village were present. But the field where we were right now, which was owned by Jonas's father, was less like a field and more like a garden.

So, it became the place where Eden and his friends used to meet.

It contained trees of apple, banana, guava, and many more, with a pond and a sitting area.

However, it didn't mean that the remaining field owned by him was the same.

The remaining field was the same as the others, used for farmland.

'Money is important everywhere.'

I sighed, thinking that. Before glancing at Jonas and asking.

"When are they coming?"

"They should be—" He paused suddenly and pointed with his index finger. "Ah, there they are."

I followed the direction of his finger and looked ahead.

Two girls were trudging towards us.
