Chapter 57: Chapter 57

The ringing of Evelyn’s phone interrupted them. They wanted to ignore it but it kept ringing. Evelyn pull away from him and look at her phone on the bed.

“you should pick your call” he whispered. Evelyn check the caller, it was Sonya.

“hello” she said.

“Evelyn, are you in your room? Am coming over” she said. Evelyn panicked and quickly cut the call. Charles was startled by her action.

“what is it? Who called?” he asked.

“I have to go now, Sonya is going to my room” she said and hurriedly put on her clothes and dash out before Charles could stop her and left the room.

“I just wanted to tell you this is your room” Charles said after her but she was already out. Evelyn wanted to sneak back immediately she got out but met with Sonya at the entrance. She quickly straighten up to prevent suspicions.

“what are you doing?” Sonya asked.

“nothing, I was just passing by here. I did not go inside” she answered in a panic. Sonya was puzzled and wonder what she is talking about. She also noticed that she seems unease.

“are you okay? Why wont you enter?” she asked again.

“why would I enter? I have no business with him” she answered speedily. Sonya was more confused and nodded her head at her.

“am going in then, I will wait for you to come back from wherever you are going to?” she replied and made to open the door. Evelyn quickly stop her and use her body to block the door.

"You cant go in” she shouted. Sonya was taken aback.

“let’s go to my room and talk” she said again. Sonya look lost.

“but this is your room. Do you have another room here?” she said. Then Evelyn turn back and realize it. She has forgotten that it was Charles that came to meet her in her room. She decided to find a way around it to do away with any suspicion Sonya might have.

“what I mean is, lets talk outside. There is fresh air and also, I need to calm down and relax after drinking so much” she explained and drag Sonya with her. Sonya was unwilling but still followed her. They sat down in the lounge.

“what is it you want to see me about?” she asked. “its about loveth and Simon” she said.

“what about them?”

“I think Simon rejected her confession” she said. Evelyn keep quiet.

“why aren’t you saying anything?”

“because I know that would happen” she replied.

“what do you mean you know?” she asked again.

“I already know Simon like someone else” she answered and continue.

“his behaviour says it all. And also he says the picture of the girl he likes he’s the only girl’s picture on his phone. I tried checking the picture and even though I was not able to see it clearly, am sure its not loveth. The girl wore a skirt but loveth never put on skirt, especially not the black colour. She hates black.”

“then why didn’t you tell her or me? You know she likes him so much” she said a little annoyed.

“you are but always free and besides am sure loveth must have noticed it too she just choose to ignore it” she replied.

“so, do you know who she is? I even saw him hiding a ring in his pocket at the theatre sometimes back” Sonya swallow hard and shake her head.

“I don’t. he didn’t introduce any girl to me” she answered.

“where is he now?” she asked.

“I cant find him and his things are no longer here. I guess he left first” she answered.

“without informing you? Well that’s strange”

“why is it strange?”

“are you asking because you really don’t know, everyone sees clearly how he dotes on you. He always tells you every of his schedules and plan. Or how else will loveth have been able to get close to him. Sometimes, I always feel uncomfortable when am alone with the two of you. Its always like am a third wheel between you too. Always acting like a couple” she said.

“what nonsense. We are siblings”

"yes, yes I know. That’s the only reason why I think your closeness is not too much. If others see they would surely think you are lovers” she said.

“really?” Sonya asked with a very serious expression. Evelyn laughed.

"why are you getting serious? am just kidding” she laughed and they remain silent for a second.

“oh right, before I forget I think this is for you” Sonya said and stretch out a small paper to her. Evelyn collect it from her.

“its the paper I picked today” she added.

“why do you think is for me?”

“because apart from Maxwell and I, only you and Charles have that kind of relationship” she answered.

“I don’t think so” Evelyn said and return the note to her.

“I’ve known Charles for a long time now and he doesn't like expressing his feelings in words or writings. He always express himself with his actions” Sonya collects it back with a smile.

“did Simon really write this then? Who would he write it to?” she thought.

"lets go back, am tired” she said and stand up.

“you go back first. I will leave after a while" she replied and Evelyn head back in.She got back to her room but there was no sign of Charles. She could only smell the scent he left in the room. She remove her clothes and entered the bathroom. She turn on the shower and reminisce on what happened between her and Charles a while ago. She finish bathing and put on a small gown then lay down to sleep. Her phone beeped and she took it from the bed to check who it is, it was a message from Charles. She quickly check to see what it is.

“am outside your room, lets talk” she read. She quickly got up from the bed and ran out and sure enough he was standing at the entrance…..

Since the day they returned from their trip, Sonya has not been able to contact Simon and he has not been reachable at all. Whenever she went to his house he is always out. She look for Charles inside the school but could not find him. She decide to skip her final class and held back home. Its her birthday tomorrow but everyone is so busy and no one is paying her any attention at all. She sigh slightly as she remove her key to open the door. She entered and saw Evelyn and Charles messing around with each other in the living room. She cleared her throat to notify them of her presence. They quickly stopped what they were doing and scurried away from each other.

“Sonya, you are back! Why didn't you didn’t make a sound as you entered at all?” Evelyn asked.

“since when do you become concerned about that” she replied sarcastically.

“Sonya” Charles greeted.

“and you missed your classes today again. Since the both of you got back together, you do nothing but hang out together like inseparable twins” Sonya hissed and sat down.

“are you jealous?" Evelyn said jeeringly.

“why don’t the both of you go rent out another apartment and just start to live together from now”

“I wish I can but my mom will never allow it” Evelyn replied

“and when do you start listening to her?” Sonya asked and stood up to go inside.

“where is loveth? Still not back yet” she pause to ask.

“yes, I called her yesterday” she answered.

“I guess her mom must be really sick” she said and went inside.

….Sonya woke up the next day very early, it’s her birthday but she doesn't feel excited about it. She got and dress up for class. She decide to put on one of the dress Maxwell bought for her. She check her phone for any new message and sure enough there was. She received an happy birthday message from Maxwell.

“happy birthday sweetheart” just a short one but still Sonya was very happy and felt a jingle in her heart. She smiled to herself and check other messages. There is one from Charles and Simon. After some days now, he finally decide to talk to her again. She open his message. He sent an address and told her to go there by six.

“is he inviting her for dinner? This is the first time on her birthday that he will invite her for dinner instead of celebrating with noise” she thought.

“but what if Maxwell has a surprise for me?” she text Maxwell to ask if he will available to date with her in the evening. She receive his reply immediately.

“I don’t think so, am quite busy” she sulked and replied to simon’s message.

“deal” she open the door and was shocked by Evelyn and Loveth’s shout.

“happy birthday” they both shouted together.

“ah! you sacred me” they both hug her tightly and wish her a happy birthday again.

“thank you. But loveth when did you get back? You were not in last night?”

“just this morning. I came specially for your birthday” she answered. They both lead her to the dinning.

“now have your first breakfast as a twenty four year old lady” Evelyn said jovially.

“do you make it sound like an some kind of old lady?”

“are you not, very soon you’ll be in your late twenties. Maybe we should start calling you big sis” Evelyn said teasing her

“yah!” Sonya yelled and they both laughed at her.

“don’t worry you still look so beautiful” loveth flattered.

“so let’s eat before it gets cold” she added and they settle down to eat.

Sonya came out of her room dressed up. She walk up to Evelyn and loveth.

"so how do I look?” loveth and Evelyn turn away from the TV.

“why are you this dressed up? I thought you said Maxwell is too busy to take you out tonight”

“yeah and my friends are also busy to have a party with me, I decide to go out and enjoy myself”

“whoa! Okay then, enjoy” they said and continue watching their movie. A little while after she left.

“wait! If she leaves now we wont know where she is and then how are we supposed to take her to the surprise party” Evelyn exclaimed. The both of them stood up instantly and hurried inside to get changed then they followed her quietly.
