CHAPTER 18

“ What are you trying to do?” Hudson asked and Alvara stopped halfway, her mouth hung open and eyes closed. She flung her eyes open and met his eyes piercing hers. Hudson’s heart skipped a bit immediately his gaze interlocked with those ice blue eyes of Alvara.

“ Were you trying to kiss me?” Hudson grinned and Alvara jerked off him.

“ Oh shut it. Why will I want to kiss you?” She scoffed.

“ Because my lips are tempting?” Hudson grinned the more, making Alvara hiss.

“ I rather kiss a gorilla than kissing you” She spat in disgust, standing up.

“ Mehn that hurts too” Hudson mumbled to himself. He made to sit up but felt a sharp pain run through his head. He let out a loud groan, making Alvara turn to him.

“ Are you ok?” She asked but got a hard glare from him.

“ How can I when you sent me crashing to a metal door?” He snapped angrily.

“ Hey don’t snap at me. I wasn’t the one who told you to stand in the way” Alvara snapped back.

“ I was trying to stop you moron” Hudson whined.

“ Well serves you right” Alvara muttered a hiss.

“ Mehn! I hit my head pretty hard, I’m even bleeding” Hudson groaned standing on his feet. Just then, the lights came.

“ Finally” Alvara heaved. The door of the basement twisted open, revealing Blink.

“ Are you both ok?” She queried and got a nod from both of them.

“ You two were sent to handle a simple task which was to clean the basement but you both ended up destroying everything in it, seriously?” John snapped at Hudson and Alvara who were seated like a kid being scolded.

“ She started it” Hudson blurted out immediately and Alvara glared at him.

“ Or were you the one who started it?” She glared.

“ Shut it” Hudson snapped.

“Hey, don’t dare tell me to shut it idiot” Alvara warned.

“ Asshole!” Hudson mouthed.

“ Lummox!” Alvara spat back.

“ Nitwit”

“ Goof”

“ Witling”

“ Jackass”

“ Mooncalf”

“ Dolt”

“ Enough you two!” John yelled angrily at them when he couldn’t beat their childish insults.

“ What’s so hard in the both of you working together to get things done, must you fight over everything?” He half yelled.

“ I think you should ask the nitwit that” Alvara hissed.

“ Excuse me?” Hudson scoffed.

“ Oh jeez! Tell me they ain’t fighting again” Blink smacked her palm on her forehead, burying her face in her palms.

“ What is wrong with you two?” John asked.

“ She’s the one at fault” Hudson accused Alvara immediately.

“ Hudson….” Ben sent him a warning glare to keep shut.

“ You know what? Starting from now both of you are banned from participating in any mission” John announced and the two teenager’s eyes widened in shock.

“ What?!” They exclaimed.

“ But why?” Hudson half yelled.

“Until you both grow up and learn to work together and not fight over everything” John snapped angrily with a stern look.

“ But…b…but…” Hudson shuttered not knowing what to say.

“ Why do I have to pay for what is obviously her fault?” He finally asked.

“ Listen Hudson and Alvara, you both have to learn how to work together, ok?” Ben said.

“ I’ll give you both 10 tasks to accomplish, together. If you are able to carry out 5 among the 10 task without fighting, then you both are back one the game” He mused the offer before them.

Hudson glared angrily at Alvara whose facial expressions was blank but deep down she was boiling in rage.

“ I hope you’re happy and satisfied now Mrs “know it all”” He yelled at her, making Alvara let out an angry scoff.

“ But seriously, who is supposed to be angry with who here?” She huffed.

“ if you weren’t so adamant about arranging things first before dusting, none of this would have happened” She barked.

“ And if you weren’t all adamant about dusting first and trying to prove the smart one, we would have been done with the task” Hudson fumed in rage.

“ You know what Alvara? Get this into your head….I HATE YOU” He spat in disgust.

“ And I hate you more than I hate the Sentinels” Alvara spat back before barging out of the room. Hudson too left the room.

“ This two teenagers are getting out of hand” Blink sighed.

“ With the way they’re going, I’m afraid they might turn against each other. And then my worse nightmare will come to pass” Ben fretted, letting out a groan.

“ Com’on guys, let’s not get all pessimistic here. I’m sure they’ll both learn how to get along soon, they just need some time” John tried reassuring.

“ I hope” He mumbled to himself with a sigh.

TASK NO 1; WATER THE GARDEN

Hudson and Alvara stood in the garden, each with their water hose.

“ Okay. Hudson, you water the 5 rows on the right while Alvara, you’ll water the 5 rows on the left…understood?” Autumn assigned and they both nodded slightly.

“ Good. Now get to work” Autumn snapped lightly and left. Glaring at each other, the two teenagers both huffed, looking away.

Turning on their water hose, they started their task. They were still on the first row when…

“ Hey, that’s my row you’re watering” Hudson pointed out to Alvara who just raised a brow at him, with a toothy grin.

“ Oh is it?” She asked purposely.

“ Focus on your row while I focus on mine, ok?” Hudson snapped.

“ Ok” Alvara replied and this time around stepped fully on Hudson’s row.

“ Hey!” Hudson glared at her.

“ Oopsy, sorry” Alvara sassed and stepped back to her row. She stepped in to Hudson’s row again and this time around, she purposely pushed him and he landed with his butt on the floor.

Alvara bursted into laughter as Hudson glared angrily at her. She was still laughing loudly and mockingly when she felt the rain falling on her.

Wait! This is no rain. Looking down, she saw Hudson baptizing with the water hose like she was now the flower, a grin on his face.

“ What the…” She shuttered as the water poured heavily on her.

“ Oopsy, my bad” Hudson bursted to laughter. Alvara glared at him before turning on her water hose, doing the exact same thing he is doing to her.. baptizing him with water.

Hudson stood on his feet, trying to fight back the water pouring on him as his hose fell off his hand. Alvara was already laughing so hard.

“ Ok that’s it” Hudson grunted, finally grabbing his hose. He turned on the water, directing it to Alvara. They both were now baptizing themselves with the water and at the same time trying to to knock off the hose fom each other.

Unknowingly to them, they were now running around the garden trying to shield from each other. They were now all soaked with water. Finally, Hudson grabbed Alvara’s wrist, pulling her to himself.

He unknowingly held her by the waist. They both pointed their hoses vertically upward, making it look like it was raining on them. Their gaze locked as the water poured on them.

Staring into Hudson’s eyes, Alvara lips slightly parted. The water falling on them trailed down her face to her lips, making them wet and tempting. Immediately Hudson’s eyes landed on them, the urge to kiss it came rushing.

He tried fighting the urge and looking away but the urge was stronger. Staring at her lips the more, he couldn’t fight against kissing it and slowly he started bringing his lips closer. Seeing as Hudson’s face was slowly getting closer, Alvara’s eyes widened.

“ What are you trying to do?” She said snapping Hudson out. A voice let out a slight cough, startling the both of them. They turned only to see Blink standing before them with folded arms, her cloth wet due to the water pouring on her. Alvara and Hudson let out a nervous chuckle on meeting her crucifying glares.

“ I told you both to water the garden but you ended up watering each other. Tell me, since when did you both become flowers needed to be watered, huh?” Ben asked, his hand on his waist in an akimbo.

“ What’s so hard in accomplishing a simple task?” Ben half yelled.

“ She started it” Hudson mumbled almost immediately.

“ It doesn’t matter who started it” Ben snapped.

“ You both failed this task, so it’s a zero” He added.

“ Now listen. The sooner you both start working together, the better or you’ll be banned forever from participating in any mission” Ben cautioned and Hudson and Alvara let out a loud gasp.

“ I know you don’t want that right?” Ben asked and got a slow nod from them.

“ Then learn to work together!” He snapped angrily and they both flinch back a bit.

“ Understood?” He coaxed and the two teenagers nodded firmly.

Ever since the encounter with Jade, Polaris couldn’t sleep properly. She kept thinking about her offer to join the Innercircle, stripping her of her inner peace of mind. Eclipse, who thought it was pregnancy mode swings did all he could to cheer her up, all to no avail.

“ Will I be making a mistake joining the enemy? Can I really save all the mutants in captivity? Can I bring an end to all these racism?” She couldn’t help but wonder. She was standing by the window, staring at the card Jade gave her.

She didn’t even notice when Eclipse entered the room. He tiptoed to where she was standing and hugged her from behind, placing a deep kiss on her neck Polaris closed her eyes to feel and enjoy the warmth of his kiss. She was seriously longing for it.

“ What are you staring at?” Eclipse asked.

“ Nothing. Just thinking about something” Polaris replied. Eclipse turned her to face him.

“ Are you ok? Is something bothering you?” He questioned cupping her cheeks together. Polaris quickly crashed her lips on his, kissing him wildly like her life depends on it. Eclipse pulled her closer by the waist to deepen the kiss. They both had to pull out to catch their breaths.

Eclipse smirked naughtily at her. He grabbed her ass, squeezing it gently and Polaris’ eyes widened.

“ Hey” She hit him playfully on the chest, chuckling. Eclipse stared lustfully at her and Polaris understood what he wanted but maybe now wasn’t the right time.

“ I want to discuss something with you” She said instead.

“ Sure, go ahead” Eclipse said huskily, sucking on her neck.

“ Leriel ”She moaned.

“ I’m serious about it” She managed to say, trying not to shutter in the process. Eclipse trailed kisses down her cleavages, making Polaris bit on her lower lips to prevent a moan escaping her lips.

“ Hmm. Nice boobs” Eclipse smirked.

“ Leriel” Polaris slapped his torso, making him let out a slight laugh.

“ Ok, ok, I’m all ears” Eclipse chuckled, trying to keep a serious face, his eyes still fixed on her boobs.

“ Yesterday, I crossed part with one of the frost sisters, Jade” Polaris revealed and Eclipse looked up, his face in a deep frown.

“ Where?” He asked.

“ In one of the bushes. She told me something… something important” Polaris replied and Eclipse gave her an 'I'm all ears' look.

“ She said Lucan is planning a ‘Hounds Program' with the Purifiers…. against us” She continued.

“ And you believed her?” Eclipse huffed.

“ Leriel, she’s also a mutant and a member of the Innercircle so figuring out things like that won’t be that hard for them cause they are influential” Polaris tried reasoning

“ Which is the one reason why you shouldn’t believe a thing coming out from her mouth. They have no atom of truth in them” Eclipse pointed out.

“ I know she’s not lying, Leriel. For the first time I saw truth in her eyes. What if she’s actually telling the truth? “ Polaris asked and Eclipse stare at her in surprise.

“ Are you seriously the one asking me that Polaris? You yourself know the kind of people the Innercircle are” Eclipse replied.

“ Maybe I misunderstood them. They have the same goal as we the underground so they ain’t the enemy here….the Sentinels are” Polaris explained.

“ But they are the sole root of all the problems we’re passing through…..

“ The Hellfire club was the problem. Now we have the Innercircle, with new set of mutants who wants nothing else but freedom. Maybe it wouldn’t be that bad joining hands together with them and fighting the Sentinels” Polaris mused.

“ The difference between the Innercircle and the underground is clear, Polaris. Unlike them, we don’t break the law to get our freedom, we do things the right way, that’s the difference” Eclipse tried explaining but Polaris became angered and pulled out from him, letting out an angry snort.

“ The right way, you say? “ She scoffed.

“ Tell me Leriel. What have we actually accomplished trying to do things the right way all these years? Nothing right? “ She asked and Eclipse stare at her in surprise.

“ But.. .

“ You see those beings called the Sentinels and Purifiers, those beings are monsters and deserve to be treated as one. They don’t deserve to be pitied or anything like that. They kill without humanity and deserve to the treated the same”

“ And what difference will we be from them? “ Eclipse speculated.

“ It doesn’t matter Leriel! “ Polaris yelled.

“ Is this the type of life you want for your daughter? Don’t you want her to be given the same freedom as other humans? “ Polaris asked like the wanted to cry

“ Of course I want the best life for my daughter. I want everything to go back to normal but for that to happen, we need to follow the right part….

“ Enough Leriel, enough” Polaris cut him off impatiently.

“ You know what. I am fed up of trying to do the right thing all my life and still haven’t accomplished a thing. I don’t want that type of life for my baby” She yelled.

“ It’s about time we forget about laws and principles. It’s about time we forget doing things the right way and do it THE HARD WAY…...
