Chapter 37: Chapter 37
C H A P T E R - F I F T E E N
"Can you tell me why you're so upset?" " I asked gently, thinking that was a decent question. I mean, I didn't lock myself in the Mayhem Compound. I didn't do a drive-by on my house. I simply happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, which happened to be my own house.
"First," he said as he walked slowly towards me, and I knew it was a bad indication that he began by counting, "you just forced war."
I blinked once. "War?" I inquired. ”
"I and my boys are at war with the Mayhem MC."
“What? " I inquired. “Why? ”
"Babe," he said as he came to a halt a few steps away, "you were imprisoned in Finn's room at the Compound." That is a proclamation. To get you out, my soldiers and I had to enter it. This is not going to go well."
"Um... I think you're misinterpreting things. Finn was present when someone fired up my living room, and I believe he was attempting to protect me."
It must be said, albeit not to Falcone, that I thought this and did it in the hopes of avoiding a mental collapse. I had other thoughts, similar to what Falcone was saying, but I didn't allow them take over my mind since they'd give me a nervous breakdown. I'd never experienced one, but I was very certain nervous breakdowns were to be avoided.
"Even Andrew Fontanilla, playing the Good Samaritan, is going to drop the victim of a drive-by at the police station." He leaned forward, "not claim her as his and ride off to seek out the criminals until he's."
Uh-oh.
"OK, I view it as horrible, but he's doing it." No such announcement was made by me."
"So, explain me why Finn was there during the drive-by?"
”
"When I returned home this morning, he was at my place."
“So?”
"He wished to talk."
“So?”
"So he promised not to say anything that would frighten me, so I finally agreed to talk."
"All right, Sweet Pea," he took a menacing step forward, "let's get back to why you weren't anywhere else this morning, for example."
Uh-oh.
"Falcone" -
I stopped talking when he took another frightening stride forward, which meant he was near because his legs were so long. It's too near.
It was frighteningly close.
"Yesterday," he whispered quietly, and as he approached closer, I slipped away from the column and took a step back. "I left here," he kept coming at me, so I took another step back, "and when I left here," I moved, he kept approaching, "you were lovely and cute."
I was forced to halt after colliding into bookcases. Falcone did not relent. He pushed me down and tilted his head down to gaze at me, but he didn't touch me. With the sheer power of his badassery, he pinned me down.
"Then yesterday afternoon, I got this fuckin' message with a fuckin' check," he said. I don't understand the note. "The check, honey, the check is a slap in the face."
Hmm. Maybe I didn't thought it through thoroughly enough.
"So I check your car's gadget and see you've holed up with a cop," he said.
“You have a tracking device on my car? " I said quietly, and his terrible, furious expression became even scarier and angrier, so I shut my mouth.
"I came home," he said, "and I got a message from Gayle." So I get the note because I realize that you heard her message and then you listened to some nonsense that your friend fed you and you didn't pick up the phone or come over to my house to talk to me. You ran off half-cocked and pissed me off big time, the fuck."
Okay, so we were talking about this topic, so we had to speak about it again.
"I know about Your Days," I said quietly.
“Yeah? You do? ”
"Yeah," I said quietly, "I do. And I'm well aware that I'm a filler."
"No," he said. "You know, a bunch of cops with shit for brains and nothing better to do with their time referred to you as that. And something more, darling, that garbage is all fabricated. It's just nonsense. Gayle calls herself Thursday because she has another partner who doesn't do it for her, and he goes out on Thursdays and gets shitfaced and doesn't get home till the bars shut, so I visit her. I don't have a plan. You are the only woman I have been fully involved with and the only one I keep an eye on."
"But you stated that when you make a woman yours, you -"
"No, Gia, ignore what you thought you were reading into what I said. I'm going to tell you the truth right now. And I'm not going to tell you there aren't others because there are. And I hope you understand that I'm not the type of man to waste his time doing exactly what I'm doing right now, justifying myself."
Oh my god. Now I'm irritated.
"I see," I said softly. “We’re right back where we started.”
“We’re right back where we started.”
"No, if we were back where we started, I'd have gotten a piece of your beautiful ass sometime in the past couple of days."
My mouth opened wide.
He simply could not be trusted!
"I do not believe you!" I screamed.
"Is it not true?" he inquired.
"No, see, in the last several days, my sister's shit has have infiltrated my life. Was there anything I did wrong? No! I don't live in your universe. Big Ben was familiar to me. I had a feeling he'd be excellent for Isabelle. I assumed he'd take care of her. When I went to Grind, I had no idea what would happen! How could I possibly know? I didn't let the intruder in by opening the door! I did not lead the fire bombers to my parents' house and throw a burning bottle through the window! That's it. I went home today. I just returned home and was met with a hail of bullets! But after that was done, I simply did what I was told. I'd never had a gun pointed at me before. Finn seemed to know what he was doing, so I decided it would be a good idea to be with someone who did. I had no idea he was going to imprison me in his compound and ignite a war! I've just done the best I could in a terrible position. No! In a number of dire scenarios! ”
"Gia -"
"On top of that, I don't need you to be a jerk."
"Gia -"
I spread my hands to the sides. "Today, my living room got shot up. Using me in it! " I screamed. His hands reached for my jaws.
"Calm down, baby."
"Calm down!" You can walk through walls and down bikers quietly. Falcone, I don't have such powers. I was in another circumstance where a crowbar was required! That sucks! And then I'll need cookie dough. Or, at the absolute least, excellent Chinese cuisine, preferably Imperial."
"All right, baby, I'll get you Imperial," he murmured gently as his thumbs ran across my mouth.
I shook my head, but I couldn't shake his hands free. "No, I liked you the other night." "I don't tonight," I said. "I mean, thank you for rescuing me from biker prison, but now I want to go home..." That's when I realized I didn't have a house, my parents didn't have a home, and therefore I was screwed, so I continued lamely, "Or... wherever."
"You're going to stay where you’re gonna be safe until whatever the fuck is going on is finished, sweetie," Falcone stated.
“Hello? "I dialed. "Let me remind you that you live in Badass World and I do not. You cannot tell me where to be."
"I sure as fuck can, Gia," he said.
"No, you can't," I said again, his hands sliding to my neck and his fingers curled in.
"Listen to me, Giabella," he hissed, and I missed that somewhere he got un-pissed, but I wasn't missing that he was now re-pissed, and him stating my entire name simply highlighted it. "According to the information we have, Isabelle was nowhere in the neighborhood today when the conducted the drive-by at your home. That may signify one of two things. Those rounds were either meant to kill Finn or you."
"No one wants me dead," I said.
"No, but they want Isabelle to suffer, and she's your sister, and they may not realize you're not tight, and, finally, they're becoming desperate, so, as I said, they may have been intended to take you out."
