Chapter 35: Chapter 35
*Nelly Point Of View*
"Nelly. Can you please come with me?" Mr Howard asked.
Oh no! Am I in trouble? Did miss Malika report me or something? This is bad, definitely bad!
"Yes sir," I replied nervously. Gosh, what's in store for me.
He led me inside the house towards.....his office? What did I do?
"Take a sit," he offered and I nodded, carefully sitting on a white chair. It's comfy, I may say.
"It has come to my notice that you have some relatives," he stated and I almost gasped. Who told him that.
"Yes sir, I do," I replied. I'm not really feeling like saying anything else.
"You might want to know who told me. Don't worry, it was Laura."
Laura? How could she!
"I did some research in their background," he said as he brought out some files and I simply stared at him.
"As much I would love to share it with you at this time I can't. I want you to come with me after you take sometime to rest. Maybe a shower or a nap will do," he said and I nodded.
"You can meet Laura to show you a spare room," he added as I left his office. I immediately sighted Laura and furiously made my way to her.
"So how did it go-" I stopped her with my finger.
"How could you? How could you tell him. You didn't inquire from me before you did?"
"Sorry. But I thought you really needed help," she shrugged.
"You have no right to tell him. What if he goes to them and they disagree, they will definitely blame me and maybe stop me from visiting."
"I'm sorry but I did what I thought was right and this is right. Please understand that," she said.
"I know that you are my best friend but next time know your place," I stated and walked away.
"Nelly I'm sorry," I heard behind me but I ignored her. I stopped when I remember she was the one to tell me my room.
"Your room is opposite mine," she pointed out and I gave her a thank you smile.
I walked into the room she pointed and was astonished by the view. Not wanting to linger about, I jumped on the bed and the first thing I saw was my luggage. Laura!
I thought about taking a nap but thought otherwise. I stood up and slipped out of my clothes, running into the gigantic bathroom I turned on the shower.
After that, I slipped into some fresh clothes and walked out of the room.
I knocked softly on his door, the office door. It creaked open and Mr Howard stared at me.
"Finally we can leave," he motioned as he stepped out of the office. He led me out the house and I followed quietly. When we were outside, he turned swiftly. His eyes showed a bit sense of obliviate.
"Would you mind if you call Laura?" He asked and I froze.
I gulped slowly and nodded. Turning around I spotted the door and quickly walked away.
Must she come with us?
After walking, I manage to remember the route to the room. I nodded on her door and as expected she opened her door. A smile crept to her face when she saw me. She thinks that I'm going to apologize. No way!
I acted nonchalant and slowly muttered, "Mr Howard wants you to come with us," I regret saying it because of the glint that flashed in her eyes.
"Let's go," she quickly stepped out of her room and walked away with me.
★★★
"I think we are here," Mr Howard nods at his driver's output.
I have been sleepy though out the drive. I didn't know that it was quite a distant.
I bluntly stepped out of the car with the others. The driver stayed behind.
We were inside the premises of my uncles house. I smiled knowing that that the Royal castle is a lot bigger.
"I already informed them that we were coming," Mr Howard said and I stood there confused. How did he get their phone number.
In minutes, I saw knock on the huge-small door. It opened acutely and I was surprised when I saw it was my cousin who opened it.
"Mr Howard, I'm glad you are arrived safely. My parents would be so happy to see you," she smiled. Her smile didn't reach her eyes, I know her too well.
We were directed inside the house. When Laura and Mr Howard turned their attention somewhere else, she glare at me.
Seriously?
Now?
She can't be serious!
I ignored her and walked over to where Mr Howard and Laura were seated.
Immediately we settled down Mr Howard spoke. "Mr and Mrs Green, I know that we have been friends and business partners for a long time now," he breathed.
"When your sibling, my former business partner passed away you took over because he didn't have a successor, a child. I just found out that he did have a child after he died, they both died," my heart ached at the thought of it.
"W-We.... Um..." Uncle tried to say.
"I think that I am right," Mr Howard smiled.
"I give you two options, one, we take this to high court. I will make sure that all properties would be returned to the child and your reputation would be on the line or you can adopt her as your own and give her assess to everything," he added.
His speech rendered them speechless. I, on the order hand was shocked that all these belonged to me, it was mine all along.
"We understand and we don't want a bad reputation so we'll adopt."
"Good. No maltreatment too, if that happens I won't hesitate to send you to jail. Since I know the queen and I'm very close you might a rough time," Mr Howard said and they nodded.
My cousin was lingering about and she was just as shocked as I was.
"We will take our leave," we stood up. "Don't worry, you don't have to go through the normal paper work to let her stay. She will come when she's ready," and just like that we were out the door.
I rushed over to Laura as she approached the car. "Laura, I'm really sorry for been a bad friend. Sorry for snapping at you earlier."
"It's fine. You were just mad and tired. It's not a big deal."
"No, it's a big deal. If not for you, I would have still been miserable. You changed that."
"Thanks. But you should thank Mr Howard. He did all the talking."
"And you did all the telling," we laughed. "Best friends?" I smiled.
"Best friends," she smiled. "Now let's go. Did I tell you that this place is cool?" I giggled. "I guess so."
