Chapter 2: Chapter 2

I was overwhelmed by the big name of the whole building in front of me now. I suddenly remembered the first day I was hired by this company and this is the third year I have been working here. I still can't really believe I'm going to be here long.

"Ana!"

I quickly turned to the caller and saw Elena running towards me.

"What are you doing here? Sir Ares isn't here. He also left no work for you," she immediately told me.

I frowned and entered the main entrance of the Aragon Estate building with Elena.

"What are you saying?" I asked her in surprise. She also looked strange to me.

"Didn't he tell you? The board has an out-of-town trip today and is with Sir Ares and Don Damien," she replied to me to my surprise.

I didn't answer her there because I didn't know what to say. Ares never mentioned that to me. I just talked to him on the cellphone before but he didn't tell me anything. It's impossible. Is this woman mocking me?

"Really? Why didn't he tell me?" I asked her while waiting for the elevator to open.

Elena just shrugged her shoulder. "I don't know. I'm not the girlfriend. You know what, you're so lucky with each other, especially you. Imagine, your boyfriend is our boss," she told me excitedly. I just laughed at her.

"I'm also lucky because of him, Elena. I love him because he's a good person, not because he's rich just like what everybody says," I simply answered her. She just rolled her eyes and chuckled.

"I'm just kidding. I know that. Of course, you're my best friend, e. I have a question for you," she continued so I looked at her.

I noticed that she was acting weird but I just let it go. She seemed to be hiding something from me and was trying to keep herself from telling me.

"What is it again?"

"Do you want to get married? I mean, we're not young anymore. I know you're still focused on supporting your family, but you know that... do you have a plan on getting married?" She asked looking very excited about my answer.

I frowned at her as I thought through my mind what she had asked. Elena is being random again. Sometimes I can no longer afford to talk to this woman, e. But as an answer to her questions, I would love to get married to the person I love, of course. Who doesn't? I want to marry Ares. I want Ares to be that person because he is the only man I see that I can be with for the rest of my life and I know he is the same to me. But on the other hand, I don't know if I'm ready. I still have so many things to do. I still have a lot to prove to myself when only I can do it.

I don't know if I'm ready.

"Just what kind of question is that, Elena? You go upstairs first. I'll just call Sir Ares." I avoided her.

I saw her quickly turn to me while whispering some curses, so I just laughed.

"You're really KJ. I'll see you later. I have something important to tell you," she said goodbye to me and hurried out when the elevator opened.

I just followed her with my gaze until she disappeared from my sight. When the elevator closed again, I just picked up my cell phone and quickly called Ares. It was still unanimous before he could answer.

"Yes, babe?" He greeted me on the other line so I automatically smiled.

"Where are you?" I asked and let myself lean on the jamb that was in the elevator. Next, I heard him swearing on the other line.

"Shit! I'm sorry. I forgot to tell you earlier that I left for a town trip. I'm sorry, baby..." He said softly to me in a pleading tone so I smiled even more. Especially when I hear his baritone voice again. Not boring.

"It's okay, Ares. Elena already told me, but I'm staying here at the office. I have a lot to do—"

"No, no. You should go home. I don't want you to stay at the office without me. You know how I hate that." He cut me off so I was blown away.

To this day, he still has this problem. It's been a few months since that incident happened but he still can't forget it. This man is really crazy.

"It's fine, Ares. I'll stay in your office instead," I insisted and exited the elevator when it opened.

I went straight to the pantry when I felt hungry. I was not able to have breakfast before leaving the house earlier because of the rush. Also, mama was not in the mood, so I'm not sure if I'll have an appetite in that house.

I heard Ares sigh on the other line who seemed to be extending his patience again.

"Just do what I said to you, Anastacia. Go home and wait for me. You should rest. Let's just talk once I get back. Don't you dare disobey me," he said threateningly to me so I couldn't yawn anymore. I'm not really winning with this guy.

"Fine, Sir Ares Constantine. See you soon. Please be safe," I surrendered to him and sat down on the sofa there. Next, I heard his grin on the other line.

"I'll see you soon. Take care. I love you, Ana," he said seriously so I smiled again. I could feel the gradual resurrection of the bugs in my stomach and the pounding of my heartbeat.

Things haven't changed yet. It's been three years since we became officially in a relationship, but how he was to me at first is still the same to me to this day. I'm slowly drowning in his love, and I don't know how to tell him. I don't want him to know that because I'm afraid that when I say that, he will suddenly change. But I doubt it. Ares is a fine man. When I first saw him, he was already screaming his kindness like his father Don Damien, the owner of the Aragon Group of Companies. Their family is one of the richest and most successful businessmen in the country. Hotels, casinos, resorts, and malls are some of the Businesses of their entire clan, and Ares was appointed CEO of the Aragon Estate which focuses only on the management of casinos and resorts.

So when he told me one day that he was dating me, I was shocked. At first, I wasn't sure of him because I felt like he was just mocking me. But not until he suddenly introduced me to his dad and mom and tell them how much he loves me.

When Ares and I finished that conversation, I decided to just see Elena outside the building. As much as I want to stay at the office, I also don't swell because I knew it would get to Ares, and he might suddenly come home just because of that.

"Are you going to do anything later?" Elena asked me while I was waiting for a taxi.

"I'm just at home. Why? What are you going to tell me?"

I lost my attention for a moment when I received a text from my older brother Matthew.

Matthew

Lend me money

I stared at it for a while before replying and turning to Elena. It was only then that I noticed that she also peeked at my cell phone so I put it back in my bag.

"The audacity of that dumbass to ask you for money. He's the eldest but he's still asking for money from you," she commented. I just shook my head.

"You know why. For him to find a job maybe," I replied to her and turned back to the road.

"Until now, he's still looking for a job? Your family is really different. They all suck. You're lucky in your love life, but you're unlucky in your family," she told me seriously so I patted her arm.

"I'm still lucky because I still have a family," I briefly told her and she just stared at me.

Before she could speak again, a taxi pulled up in front of us so I said goodbye to her.

"I'll just text you later. Take care," she said goodbye to me and I just nodded.

As soon as the car started, my cell phone rang again because of a text. It's still my older brother.

Matthew

Just hand it to mom when you get home

I winced when I read that. I didn't reply to that and just looked out the window. It was only then that I noticed the gloomy sky foreshadowing rain. I felt even heavier when I remembered that incident again in the middle of the heavy rain. The dark sky, crackling lightning, and the mixing of tears, rainwater, and blood...

"I miss you so much, papa..." I whispered to myself as the heavy rain poured down.

I got home in about an hour. The quiet surroundings opened up to me so I just went straight to my room. I changed my clothes for a while and went out again to look for Mama or Agatha.

When I went to the backyard, I saw mama with some of her friends. When I saw what they were doing, I just sighed and shook my head. I was about to return to the room when I met Agatha who had just come out of her room.

"When they did start playing?" I asked her but she didn't even look at me.

"Agatha," I called her again thinking she hadn't heard me, but she just looked at me for a moment and turned away again.

"Let her be, Ana. Since you don't have a hobby, you always object. Why don't you just let people here be happy?" She replied firmly to me.

I raised my mouth. I was about to speak again but she entered her room again and almost closed the door. I bit my lower lip and sighed violently. Gambling is not a hobby...

That same afternoon, I was taken aback when I heard a series of cell phone rings. I hurriedly picked it up and answered the call when I saw Elena's name.

"Hello..."

"Ana! I've been calling you since earlier! It's Ares!" Elena yelled on the other line. I felt the sudden resurrection of my whole being because of what she said even the tone of her speech. She seemed confused and scared, so I got up immediately.

"What... why? What happened? Where are you?" I asked her one question after another and my heart began to tremble.

"I'm here outside your house!" She continued. I could still hear her gasping so I quickly left the room.

"Elena, why? What's going on?"

"Ares... had an accident on the way home. I've been calling you but you weren't answering!"

I felt my heart stop for a moment when I heard that. None of my own ran out of the house as I felt my tears constantly pouring out. Ares ...
