Chapter 65: Chapter 65

Chapter 64

Comeback 1

It is never the touch of betrayal that hurts, but the decision you take afterwards. Everyone handles crises in his or her own way, some people suck it up and move forward, others create a hole in that moment and bury themselves in, wallowing in a nonexistent future of revenge.

There are two types of people; those who control the narrative and those who alter the narrative. Alex is the type of guy who always wanted his story to go just the way he wished, and so far, it has always been like that until Claire happened.

'Knock knock!'

"Good morning Sir." Tony poked his head through the half opened door. "I got you coffee." He announced.

Alex gave a lazy yawn, he sat up sluggishly in bed and took the cup from Tony.

When Alex had gone to bed last night, Tony had made sure to get rid of any sort of alcohol in the house. Even though he was aware that Alex had never loved Claire, so technically, his heart wasn't broken, but his ego was.

The worst thing anyone can ever do to hurt a man is to hurt his ego.

The chances of Alex waking up in the middle of the night and seeking the comfort of alcohol was very obvious, so Tony had to prevent that.

"Call Rebecca to send my clothes as soon as possible." Alex ordered as he sipped his coffee.

"Sir, I wish to suggest that you take the day off and rest." Tony said respectfully.

"Tony… it's just a relationship. I'm not going to lose my money or even myself because of a damn woman."

He said sternly.

Tony nodded with a smile.

"What are smiling for?" Alex spied at Tony above the brim of his cup.

"I am happy that you are not sulking and churning in disappointment, sir." Tony replied with a smile.

"Hmm." Alex sipped from the tea cup once more.

"Tell me Tony, how do you eat?" Alex asked out of the blue.

"Huh?" Confused, Tony , who was about to exit the room, turned back to face his boss.

"I couldn't help but notice that your kitchen does not have a gas cooker."

"Oh!... Hihi." Tony smiled and scratched his head awkwardly. "Uhm, Sir, I seldom eat at home."

"I want breakfast, I'm hungry." Alex said plainly.

"Oh shit! No qualms sir, I'll order something for you. There's a diner just a couple of blocks from here." Tony said.

Alex stayed silent.

***************

The night was a short one for Claire, well, technically… She barely closed her eyes. She was very well aware of the fact that the drama and repercussions of her actions would unfold at dawn. As much as she dreaded the coming of dawn, deep down she was anxious and nervously waiting for what the next day would birth.

"Please, just sign here and here."

The airport delivery man who'd rang her bell early in the morning motioned with his finger as he handed her the pen.

Alex had made arrangements for her luggage to be delivered to her.

'still a being a fuck'in gentleman.'

She took the valise and went in, shutting her door behind her. She had already had her shower and was about getting ready for work. She planned to show up at work every day until Alex says otherwise.

Technically, only their relationship ought to be affected by her actions and not their jobs. She would be d'accord if he broke up with her__ she deserved it, but not to fire her.

Speaking of firing….

She heard a knock at her door again.

"Good morning ma'am." The mailman greeted her politely when she answered the door.

'Strange,' she thought. 'Since when did the mailman start knocking on people's doors to deliver their mail?' She swallowed her suspicion and took the brown envelope from him politely.

"Thank you." She said with a smile.

He reciprocated her smile and gave a short bow.

As she closed her door and finally tore open the envelope, reading through the contents of the letter in the envelope.

An evil smirk surfaced on her face. She was as motivated as ever to go to work today.

At the Office

"Sir, I got the files containing everything about Mr Mike Grinde." Gina, Alex's second assistant, walked into his office.

"Place it on the table." He ordered without raising his head.

Alex was unusually bitter the whole morning, he arrived at the office later than usual and since then he'd been requesting for files he had never shown interest in before.

Only Tony knew the reason behind his anger and unusual behavior.

The phone on his desk rang.

"What again Tony?" Picking up on the second ring, He roared through the phone's speaker.

"She's here Sir." Tony said over the phone.

"Where?"

"In the lobby. Should I stop her sir?"

"No, let her come."

Few seconds later.

The phone rang again.

"What now Tony?" Alex asked in frustration.

"Mr Adnel just pulled up in the garage."

Alex had to massage his temple to suppress a headache.

"I need privacy with Claire."

"Copy that Sir, I'll stall him."

He disconnected the call

A couple of minutes later….

"Hello Mr Beau."

She pushed the door open without even knocking.

She had a bright smile on her face, brighter than usual.

She wore corporate blue trousers and a white singlet, well tucked into her pants. She had a matching blue female slim jacket draped over her attire, making her look like a high profile elite, crowning it up with a pair of silver escarpins and a Louis Vuitton bag.

All the employees who saw her were puzzled with the transformation today. Firstly, their boss showed up in all black, now the boss' lady, showing up like she's going for a presidential summit.

Sitting behind his desk majestically, he stared at her, not with admiration, __ after all he was no stranger to her wardrobe__ but with disgust and contempt.

"Miss Racine."
