Chapter 319: Chapter 319
Shawn Rhodes stood up, grabbed the water glass on the coffee table, looked inside to see there was still water, and without caring what kind of water it was or how long it had been there, he drank it all in one go.
Susan Wilde hadn’t even had the chance to say it was her glass...
"How did I get back?" His voice was a bit hoarse, probably due to the alcohol.
"The bar owner called me; I dragged you back in the middle of the night."
Sitting on the sofa, Shawn Rhodes seemed to take a moment to recover. Seeing that he wasn’t moving, Susan Wilde couldn’t help but ask, "Are you okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?"
He didn’t respond, but instead turned his head as if looking for something, then asked, "Where’s my phone?"
Susan Wilde pointed to the jacket on the other side of the sofa, "In the pocket."
Once he sober up, he was still most worried about Rowan Alder, which explained why he was so anxious to find his phone.
He stretched out his hand to grab the jacket, took out the phone to check it, and his face turned even darker.
Standing up, he threw the phone heavily onto the sofa in a fit of anger, then went straight upstairs.
Susan Wilde, seeing that he was okay, feared that he might vent his anger at her again later, so she changed her clothes and left the house.
If she couldn’t confront him, she could at least avoid him.
In the morning, Shannon Quinn sent Leo to his tutoring class and continued with his piano practice.
The kid seemed naturally gifted in music, and since Leo himself was interested, Shannon Quinn naturally didn’t want to stifle his passion.
Let him learn if he wants to, and if one day he loses interest, she wouldn’t force him to excel in just one area.
"Alright, remember to listen to your teacher, and I’ll come pick you up in the afternoon."
"Okay, you be careful on your way back." Leo, like a little adult, reminded Shannon Quinn.
This kid only acts like a child in front of his dad; in front of Shannon Quinn, he acts like he’s the father.
The tutoring class was close to Aidan Lockwood’s studio, so if Shannon Quinn dropped Leo off in the morning, she would usually stop by the studio.
The morning breeze was cool, and with the sun just rising, taking a walk on such a comfortable morning was truly a pleasure.
However, midway there, she sensed that someone seemed to be following her.
She looked back several times, and there was always a silver-grey car not far behind her. Nᴇw ɴovel chaptᴇrs are published on novel-fire.net
She walked a few more steps forward, turned back to see the car still keeping the same distance, following her.
She frowned, looking at the car, which didn’t seem worried about her noticing it. After she stopped, it accelerated and drove toward her.
"Screech—" Accompanied by the sound of brakes, the car came to a steady stop in front of her.
Curious, she bent down to see the driver. It was someone both familiar and surprisingly unexpected.
"Little sister, it’s been so long. Don’t you recognize your brother?"
Shannon Quinn frowned, looking at Jett Quinn and asked, "What do you want?"
Jett Quinn got out of the car, different from his former punk thug image, his light grey suit making him look quite presentable.
As he approached, Shannon Quinn cautiously took a half step back, maintaining a safe distance from him.
"It’s been years since we saw each other. Brother missed you, and now that you’re married into the Rhodes Family, you don’t even come home. That’s not how one should forget their roots."
Shannon Quinn smiled and said, "You never treated me as family anyway."
"Ah, times have changed. You’re now the legitimate Young Madam of the Rhodes Family, and you look down on the Quinn Family."
"No need for the sarcastic remarks. You know what you’ve done. If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving. Stop following me."
"As you wish, Young Madam!" Jett Quinn, playing along theatrically, grinned at her and said, "If I don’t follow your instructions, you’ll probably have me sent back to jail again."
"Well, that’s just you causing trouble for yourself. If you don’t want to end up back in jail, just stay out of trouble!"
Shannon Quinn continued walking forward. Without Jett Quinn’s appearance, she had almost forgotten about the Quinn Family.
Back then, Landon Sutton sent him to jail. Although it was his own fault, with Jett Quinn’s vengeful nature, he probably wouldn’t let it go easily. His ways were wild, and who knew what he might do next. Shannon Quinn felt a slight unease in her heart.
After leaving the studio, Landon Sutton came to pick her up for lunch, and at the table, Shannon Quinn brought up the issue.
"Honey, does your family have any business dealings with the Quinn Family?"
"The Quinn Family? No." Landon Sutton was initially confused about why she suddenly mentioned them, then realized the connection through her surname.
"I saw Jett Quinn today. I’m a bit worried he might cause trouble again."
"Yes, when I was taking Leo to his tutoring class, he was following me the whole time, but he didn’t do anything to me."
Landon Sutton analyzed, "He’s probably afraid to make any more moves. Old Master Quinn passed away two years ago. Now it’s just Jett Quinn running things in the family. Occasionally, I see him around in business circles. He seems a bit different from the hotheaded kid he used to be. If he were still as aimless and reckless as before, the Quinn Family would be doomed."
"His father passed away?"
Landon Sutton nodded, "Passed away from illness." After saying this, he observed Shannon Quinn’s expression. He knew that the Quinn Family hadn’t treated her well, and she didn’t like them either. But the Quinn parents had, after all, raised her.
Shannon Quinn remained silent, then said softly, "I don’t feel like I owe them anything. They just took me in, but I wasn’t chosen for adoption."
Her childhood experiences left her with no gratitude towards anyone from the Quinn Family.
Landon Sutton added some food to her bowl, "Don’t dwell on unhappy things; it’s all in the past. Actually, we should thank them. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have had the chance to be together."
Shannon Quinn pursed her lips and smiled, saying jokingly, "I might have met someone better."
Landon Sutton frowned, reaching over with his chopsticks to take back the piece of meat he had just given her, and popped it into his own mouth.
Shannon Quinn rolled her eyes, "Childish."
"Hey? Master Nate, sister-in-law, you two eating here too?"
Shannon Quinn looked up to see Ronan Rhodes, who had somehow found another girl to cling to, greeting them before sitting at an empty table next to them.
Every word out of Ronan Rhodes’ mouth was either "baby" or "darling," and just ordering food made Shannon Quinn feel sickened by their conversation.
She whispered to Landon Sutton, "This playboy will eventually get his comeuppance."
Landon Sutton chuckled and joined in on the gossip, "A few days ago, a woman came to his company and gave him a piece of her mind. He was restrained for a couple of days and then started again."
Shannon Quinn suddenly asked curiously, "You’re close with him. Were you like him in the past?"
"Dealing with just you wears me out; how could I have the energy for other women?"
With his answer, Shannon Quinn wasn’t sure how to feel, "So you’re saying I’m difficult to deal with?"
Landon Sutton, not wanting to say anything wrong, replied, "You’re just right for me, tailor-made."
