Chapter 308: Chapter 308

Susan Wilde felt a bit anxious inside, but she didn’t show it. She just told herself that things would work out eventually and to take it one step at a time.

Mrs. Rhodes’ worries were resolved, and only then did she bring up the main business: "The day after tomorrow night, you need to go to the Rhodes Family for dinner. Prepare in advance. Both your second uncle and third uncle will be there; try to make the most of it regarding work-related matters."

Mrs. Rhodes then stood up, ready to leave. Susan Wilde and Shawn Rhodes got up together to see her off to the door. Before getting into the car, Mrs. Rhodes said again, "It’s fine if Mrs. Morgan doesn’t come over; I’ll come check the sheets myself in the morning."

After saying this, she didn’t wait for the two to respond and asked the driver to drive away.

Susan Wilde turned her head to glance at Shawn Rhodes, seemingly asking if he had any solutions. Shawn Rhodes walked back into the house, putting on his jacket as if ready to go out, and said to her, "Go upstairs and bring my toiletries down, put those few sets of my clothes in your wardrobe, and don’t touch the bed."

Saying this, he walked to the foyer, changed his shoes, and left.

Susan Wilde followed his instructions and felt that this plan was feasible.

When Mrs. Rhodes comes to check, seeing his things downstairs, she probably wouldn’t suspect anything.

But how should she handle the sheets inspection?

She knew Shawn Rhodes wouldn’t do such things with her; neither of them wanted to.

It’s just blood, after all. In the morning, she could make a small cut on her finger; it’s no big deal.

Shawn Rhodes returned home past midnight, and still went upstairs. He must have bought a new set of toiletries and did not come down to get his items.

The past few nights were rather peaceful. Susan Wilde felt that as long as no one upset Shawn Rhodes, things were quite calm.

Ears dimly hearing footsteps in sleep, unsure if it was a dream or reality, instinctively thought of the scene where Shawn Rhodes stabbed her in the back with scissors, she suddenly woke up, only to find that the outside sky was already lightening, and Shawn Rhodes was indeed in her room.

Her sudden sitting up seemed to startle him too, standing there, he spared her a look, then tossed something to the edge of the bed and said, "Spread this out."

Susan Wilde reached out to pull what he threw over, finding it to be a bedsheet, with a small stain of blood on it. Looking at him in confusion, he had already turned to walk out the door, noticing the wound tape wrapped around his left index finger.

Without Rowan Alder stirring trouble, he didn’t seem so unreasonable.

Susan Wilde got up and spread the sheet he prepared, freshly washed when Mrs. Rhodes came knocking.

Immediately heading to the bedroom, she lifted the quilt on the bed, looking at the bloodstain on the sheet, then smiled satisfactorily and said to Susan Wilde and Shawn Rhodes who stood side by side: "I specifically brought some herbal ingredients; I’ll make soup for lunch, nourish both of you."

Despite knowing the truth about the bloodstain on the sheet, Susan Wilde still felt a bit embarrassed.

Mrs. Rhodes wandered around the bedroom but felt more assured upon seeing two sets of toiletries in the bathroom and Shawn Rhodes’ clothes now in the wardrobe.

"Shaw, you two have been busy since marriage; find time for a trip together, considering it a honeymoon. Your father and I met on a blind date too, and our relationship only improved during our honeymoon."

Shawn Rhodes nodded and perfunctorily said, "I’ll set something up when there’s time." The latest_epɪ_sodes are on_the NoveI[F]ire.net

"Everything with you is ’when there’s time.’ I heard from your father that you’ll be traveling abroad for work soon? You should take Susan with you then."

Susan Wilde didn’t know if Shawn Rhodes was actually going on a business trip, but just thinking about going out alone with him was a bit undesirable, she opened her mouth to say, "Mom, I’m quite busy recently too, and our schedules don’t align. Besides, he’s going on a business trip; he won’t have time for leisure. Let’s wait until we both have time to go out."

"Susan, since you married our Shaw, you don’t need to work so hard for money. Shaw can support you; you don’t even need to work, just find something to keep from being bored at home. You don’t need to earn much money. You two don’t have children right now, so it’s a good time for peace and quiet trips. Once the kids arrive, you might have to wait till my age for a chance."

With heartfelt persuasion, Mrs. Rhodes directly booked them tickets and insisted on personally sending them to the airport on the day of departure, seemingly afraid they’d pull another stunt.

The night before departure day, they were to have dinner at the Rhodes Family, and Shawn Rhodes picked her up from the company. In the car, the two remained as silent as ever, with Susan Wilde sitting in the back, either looking at her phone or gazing out the window.

Occasionally glancing at her reflection in the rearview mirror, Shawn Rhodes noted her expressions. Naturally, going to the Rhodes Family meant meeting Simon Rhodes. Between them, he didn’t know if Simone Rhodes’ feelings were one-sided or mutual.

But recently, observing, it seemed more like Simon Rhodes’ unilateral thoughts.

Because probing into Susan Wilde’s movements revealed no secret meetings or contact with Simon Rhodes, besides a few outings with her few girlfriends for shopping or eating, most of her time was spent solo.

Arriving at the Rhodes Family, Shannon Quinn was there too, comforting Susan Wilde considerably.

It was indeed a while since seeing Leo, still calling her "Auntie Susan" sweetly and sensibly, seeming to have grown a bit taller.

Susan Wilde mostly stayed chatting with Shannon Quinn, while the men gathered chatting on another set of sofas; occasionally, she’d sense Simon Rhodes’ gaze, which felt a bit awkward.

After deleting all his contact information, he hadn’t contacted her again.

"Susan, the tea is out. Go brew some for Second Uncle and Third Uncle." Shawn Rhodes suddenly called her, and Susan Wilde was taken aback, glancing their way, unsure of what game Shawn might be playing.

Shannon Quinn promptly offered, "I’ll go."

"No problem, I’ll do it." Susan Wilde stood, and Shannon Quinn, concerned she wasn’t familiar with the place, accompanied her to guide her to where things were.

Having brewed a fresh pot of tea, Susan Wilde went around pouring a cup for each.

Besides Shawn Rhodes, Simon Rhodes, and Vincent Rhodes, there were two other slightly older elders present.

While Susan Wilde poured tea, no one thought anything amiss; they continued chatting.

As she finished and Simon Rhodes took a sip of his cup, she set down the teapot and was about to leave when Shawn joked, "Second Uncle, doesn’t the tea Susan brew taste better?"

Simon Rhodes’ pause in sipping his tea was brief before he laughed, "It’s quite nice."

Looking at him briefly, Susan Wilde hurried to move away after setting down the teapot.

Shawn Rhodes observed the subtle changes between them, finding it somewhat amusing.
