Chapter 291: Chapter 291
She wondered if everyone who takes the initiative in love feels so humble, losing their direction after tasting a bit of sweetness.
She walked ninety-nine steps towards him without achieving the desired result and took a long time to retrace her steps. Just as she was about to return to the starting point, he walked one step towards her, and she rushed ninety-nine steps back to him.
A flood of grievances surged inside her, and she said nothing to him. Holding the marriage certificate, she strode into her car and drove away directly.
Back home, she kicked off her high heels and lay on the sofa, staring blankly at the red booklet in her hand, tears silently rolling down one by one.
Looking at the marriage certificate didn’t bring her any happiness because she couldn’t feel his love for her.
She didn’t know how long this piece of paper would last, nor did she know what awaited her in the days to come.
She even wondered if there was something urgent that made him need to find someone to marry, and since he knew she liked him, he came to her.
Perhaps once the marriage certificate was obtained, his goal would be achieved, and he would never appear around her again. Besides having this red booklet in hand, they would return to being two parallel lines.
She thought he probably still had her phone number, but the whole night there was no call or text from him.
For him, marriage seemed as ordinary as eating or drinking water. Since it wasn’t on his mind, she didn’t need to care too much either.
She closed the marriage certificate and casually tossed it into the drawer beneath the coffee table.
"What? You got the certificate with Zane Rhodes?!" Shannon Quinn looked at Erin Bishop in disbelief.
When Erin Bishop arrived at Shannon Quinn’s home, the family was just about to have dinner, so she shamelessly joined in for a meal.
Erin Bishop shared what happened today, wearing a troubled expression: "I still don’t know what I was thinking back then, and I’m still so confused now."
"No, I don’t understand what he’s thinking. Why did he suddenly ask you about marriage? And then after getting the certificate, he just left you aside. What does he mean?"
Erin Bishop muttered under her breath, "How would I know?"
Shannon Quinn looked up at Landon Sutton sitting across from her and asked, "Hey, aren’t you friends with Zane Rhodes?"
Landon Sutton glanced at the two of them and said indifferently, "Being friends doesn’t mean I’m a worm in his stomach. How would I know what he thinks about personal feelings?"
"Can’t you guys chat when you have nothing better to do?"
"Like you guys gossiping all the time?"
"Isn’t it normal for guys to drink and chat together?"
"Should I call him over for a drink now?"
Even knowing that Landon Sutton was joking, Erin Bishop hurriedly waved her hand: "No, no, no, no need."
Shannon Quinn turned her head back to Erin Bishop and said, "Rona, I think you still need to ask him clearly. Marriage is no child’s play; you can’t just leave it unclear."
"I asked, but he never answers directly." Erin Bishop wondered and asked Landon Sutton, "Is his family pressuring him to marry lately? Did he just find someone at random to get the certificate with to cope?"
Landon Sutton replied, "I can’t guarantee other things, but Zane Rhodes is a person with definite opinions. If it wasn’t his willingness to marry, no one could force him to get the certificate."
"Why don’t you see what he does next? No matter what, I feel you still have feelings for him, otherwise, you wouldn’t have impulsively gotten married with him."
On the way back, Erin Bishop kept mulling over Shannon Quinn’s words in her mind.
She still had feelings for him... ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ novel⁂fire.net
Maybe, for a love held onto for so long, how could it be entirely let go?
Even if there’s no result, when she remembers it in the future, it’ll ultimately be a regret.
She didn’t want to make everything crystal clear; sometimes being a bit confused might save a lot of trouble.
The sunrise ushered away the night.
Erin Bishop sat up from bed, reached for the water glass on the bedside and took a sip before picking up her phone to check the time.
When she lit up the screen, what caught her eyes wasn’t the time but a text with no contact name.
On the lock screen, she could see the text’s preview. Erin Bishop immediately unlocked it to read a short message which read: Heading abroad for a business trip, probably two to three days. The plane is about to take off, will contact you once I land.
Erin Bishop glanced at the time, it was sent after four in the morning today.
She gazed at the message blankly for a while, unable to figure out what it meant.
She didn’t reply to the text or ask anything, just lay in bed absentmindedly until the alarm went off, then got up unhurriedly, and went to work after getting ready.
In the afternoon, around two o’clock, he sent another message saying "arrived," just those two words, without any additional greetings, not even "what are you doing?" or "have you eaten?" as if he weren’t at all concerned with her matters.
Erin Bishop still didn’t reply, and in the following two days, he sent no more messages.
After the high school exams, Claire Wilde was on summer break, waiting for her acceptance letter. She herself said she felt confident, after all, it was under Julian Yardley’s strict supervision.
"Sis, when you’re off work in the evening, let me treat you to dinner." Over the phone, Claire Wilde said to Susan Wilde.
Susan Wilde, sitting in her office, smiled and said, "You’re treating me? Did Ms. Yardley give you pocket money?"
"He said he’d reward me once the exams were over; besides, did you forget something?"
Susan Wilde furrowed her brows and thought: "What did I forget? Are you hinting I should give you some reward too?"
"No, anyway, if you’re free, get off work early. I’ll send you the address."
Susan Wilde didn’t know what the girl was planning, but she packed up and left work early before five.
"Boss, do you have a date tonight or something? Don’t you usually work until eight or nine?"
"You talk too much; tonight, you’ll work until eight or nine!"
"Come on, boss! I have a movie ticket booked for tonight. You are a beautiful and kind-hearted person; how could you let me waste a movie ticket?"
Susan Wilde glared playfully at her: "Make sure the plan is organized. We need it for tomorrow’s meeting."
"Mission accomplished!"
Susan Wilde took a taxi to the restaurant location Claire Wilde sent her. Iris said on WeChat that she had already arrived.
The restaurant’s atmosphere seemed more like a place for a couple’s date, and the spending didn’t look cheap either.
When she arrived, Claire Wilde stood downstairs waiting for her and led her upstairs with excitement, saying, "Sis, isn’t the atmosphere here nice? Quiet and romantic, plus this big window brings the outside view right inside, it’s simply..."
Susan Wilde laughed, interrupting her: "Are you writing an essay?"
Claire Wilde’s enthusiasm instantly vanished: "Don’t mention essays. You have no idea how bizarre that topic was. I really want to ask what those exam writers have been through."
"Is Julian Yardley not joining us?"
