Chapter 287: Chapter 287

After the dinner meeting, only when she was leaving did she see a familiar car at the door. She frowned and looked into the restaurant, but didn’t see any sign of him.

Erin Bishop pretended not to care and drove off directly.

Her mother called to ask about the matchmaking result. Upon learning it failed, she scolded Erin, saying her standards were too high, and then tried to arrange another date in the afternoon.

Erin really wasn’t in the mood to deal with it and said she didn’t want to go. On the other end, her mom said, "This one was introduced by Mrs. Linden, a distant relative of hers, someone who does big business, a listed company. You won’t lose by going. Mom isn’t forcing you to succeed, the choice is in your hands. Whether it works out or not, Mom won’t blame you, so just go, okay."

It was rare for her mom to speak so open-mindedly, so Erin agreed.

In the afternoon, after dealing with some work at the company, she drove to the appointed place.

She arrived earlier than the scheduled time, so the other party hadn’t arrived yet.

She found a seat by the window to sit down. The waiter brought over the menu, and as she opened it, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a streak of black outside the window. Turning to take a good look, it was that car again!

Within a few seconds, she saw Zane Rhodes walk into the shop. He just glanced at her indifferently and then chose a seat not too close or too far from her, just enough for her peripheral vision to catch him from time to time.

If the morning encounter was a coincidence, she absolutely didn’t believe this one was as well.

Convinced he was there to watch her make a fool of herself, Erin pretended not to see him, focused on the menu, and ordered a juice and some afternoon tea desserts.

Not a few minutes later, a man in a suit entered the café. Tall, wearing glasses, with a gentle demeanor—exactly Erin’s type.

"Are you Miss Bishop?" The gentleman asked politely, smiling.

Erin nodded, smiling generously back, "Erin Bishop."

"That’s a beautiful name." The man sat down opposite her and added, "Quincy Linden, pleased to meet you."

The man was eloquent and behaved with elegance, yet didn’t feel distant, which made Erin quite comfortable.

Especially knowing there was a man behind her watching for her to mess up, even if she didn’t quite like the man she was meeting, she’d still have to appear to be enjoying the conversation. More so because Quincy Linden was indeed quite close to her ideal type.

He was good at finding topics, ones that didn’t feel intrusive, as if they were just having an ordinary chat, easily exchanging information about each other’s backgrounds without any awkwardness.

This could be said to be Erin’s most relaxed matchmaking session ever, feeling neither uncomfortable nor resistant the whole time.

Zane Rhodes’s position might allow him to hear some of their conversation, but Erin couldn’t know how much he would catch.

All she felt was she had regained some ground this time, regaining a bit of her dignity.

She also felt Quincy Linden was someone she could continue to interact with, whether about life or work, they had topics they could talk about.

"By the way, there’s one thing I don’t know if they told you, I had a marriage a few years ago, and then..."

Before Erin finished speaking, Quincy Linden smiled broadly and said, "It’s okay, that’s your misfortune, not your fault, I don’t mind that."

Hearing this, Erin’s fondness for him kept rising uncontrollably. Just as she opened her mouth to speak, Quincy Linden’s phone rang.

He pulled the phone from his pocket, glanced at it, then looked at Erin with a smile and said, "Excuse me."

Quincy Linden nodded and answered the call right in front of Erin, speaking in Spanish, which Erin couldn’t understand a word of.

But she quietly compared him to that English professor, thinking how truly outstanding people are often humble, just like Quincy had never mentioned his multilingual abilities during their chat.

After a few simple words, he hung up and put away his phone, explaining to Erin, "Work matters, let’s continue, I..."

Before Quincy could finish, Zane Rhodes had somehow approached their table and said something in Spanish to Quincy, whose face turned unpleasant.

Erin had no idea what was going on, only thinking Zane was here to cause trouble, and pushed him away a bit, saying, "Sir, do you have any business here?"

Zane glanced at her and said to Quincy, "Need me to translate for her?"

Quincy seemed taken aback by someone exposing his lie, looked flustered for a moment, then stood up and said to Erin, "Miss Bishop, perhaps we should leave it for today, let’s talk another time."

Before Erin could ask for a reason, Quincy got up, settled the bill, and left first.

Watching Quincy leave in a hurry, Erin frowned and yelled at Zane, "Are you crazy?! Can’t stand to see others happy?!"

Zane calmly looked at her and said, "The human heart is unpredictable, don’t be fooled by appearances."

With that, he was about to walk away, but Erin stood up and grabbed his arm, "Explain yourself?!"

"Aren’t you meeting him again next time? You can ask him personally, let him translate what he just said over the phone."

Erin was even more confused but still unwilling to bow to Zane, "What he said has nothing to do with you! Mind your own business!"

Having said that, Erin grabbed her bag and left the café, not seeing any sign of Quincy when she went out, feeling frustrated as she drove back home.

Initially thinking she finally had some lead on a successful date, it now seemed totally blown, and she felt it was all because Zane intervened.

Just after showering, she heard her phone buzz. She picked it up to see a new contact request.

Seeing a "Linden" in the WeChat name, Erin guessed who it was, got excited, and immediately approved the request.

The other side sent a cat emoji immediately, making Erin find him privately amusing and cute. As she typed, the other party also showed they were typing.

Quincy Linden: Sorry about this afternoon, for leaving you there alone.

Erin Bishop: It’s okay, I didn’t mind. Did he say bad things about me to you?

Quincy Linden: Do you know him?

Erin thought for a moment before replying: No, what did he say to you? Get full chapters from NovєlFіre.net
