Chapter 280: Chapter 280
Claire Yardley paused for a moment and said confidently, "It shouldn’t be. I’ve never shown up, and my sister definitely won’t betray me. They won’t even think of me, they’ll just assume it was Cheryl Marsh who took him. I’ve arranged for Cheryl Marsh’s son to be taken care of abroad, promised her the best medical care and enough funds to treat her son’s illness. By now, Cheryl Marsh is probably getting further and further across the ocean."
"That makes me feel at ease. I’ll contact the buyer regarding the child; you’ll get eight, and I’ll get two."
Claire Yardley smiled and said, "Why are we dividing it so clearly?"
The man chuckled a bit awkwardly, appearing somewhat shy and bashful when it came to matters between men and women.
In the darkness of the night, when everyone was drowsy from the long journey, the crew’s announcement came over the cabin: "Dear passengers, we regret to inform you that due to extreme weather, our plane will make an emergency landing at Korman Airport. Please wait for further notice regarding the departure time."
Shannon Quinn, who had fallen asleep in exhaustion, instantly woke up, while Landon Sutton had never fallen asleep.
"What should we do? We definitely won’t make it."
Landon Sutton patted her head and then asked a passing crew member, "How long until we can take off again?"
"I’m sorry, sir. Due to the weather, we can’t ensure an exact time. Please be patient and wait."
"Have all the flights on this route made emergency landings?"
"Yes, all flights that took off after 7 PM are now waiting at Korman Airport for takeoff notice."
Upon receiving this news, both Shannon Quinn and Landon Sutton breathed a sigh of relief.
Landon Sutton looked down at Shannon Quinn and smiled, "If it’s not a blessing, it’s not a curse."
Leaning against Landon Sutton’s shoulder, Shannon Quinn asked, "What do you think they want to do with Leo?"
"No matter what, the fact that they took Leo so far means they don’t intend to harm the child. This indicates that Leo is still safe, and that’s good news."
Shannon Quinn sighed, knowing she wouldn’t be at ease until Leo returned safely to her embrace.
The plane landed, and outside the window, rain poured down amidst lightning and thunder. It was night, making it hard to see the scene outside the window clearly.
But Shannon Quinn knew that Leo was on a plane here at the airport, yet she couldn’t go down to search for him.
"If you’re tired, get some rest. Don’t forget you still have your sister with you. People are already waiting at the airport on that end, so don’t worry, Leo will be fine."
Shannon Quinn leaned into Landon Sutton’s arms, aware that he was also feeling discomfort deep inside. She didn’t want to say anything negative that would make both of them feel even more pessimistic.
She had no idea how long the plane stayed grounded. When it took off again, it was still dark outside, though the rain had lessened.
Once in smooth flight, the crew brought meals, which Shannon Quinn forced herself to eat a bit of.
Since she was pregnant, her appetite had been good, but now she couldn’t eat much.
Gradually, the window outside the plane began to reveal a white glow, and the announcement of the plane’s descent came through the speakers.
On the other end of the airport, a man in black held Leo and walked outside. Claire Yardley, wearing a baseball cap, chatted and laughed with the man.
Completely unaware that their whereabouts had already been exposed.
"Hold the child here and wait for me. I’ll go get the luggage."
The man nodded, "Okay, there’s a cart over there. I’ll call Seven and ask where they are."
As Claire Yardley went to get the luggage, another plane landed.
Landon Sutton and Shannon Quinn hurriedly got off the plane. Worried that Shannon Quinn couldn’t keep up, Landon Sutton said, "They probably just got off the plane too. You catch up slowly and carefully see if they linger in the airport. I’ll check the exit, and if you encounter them, don’t confront them directly. Call me."
Shannon Quinn knew that her physical stamina wasn’t as good as Landon Sutton’s. Following him would only slow him down, and she wouldn’t risk anything with the child inside her.
Landon Sutton ran off, while Shannon Quinn looked around as she walked, observing people resting, coming in and out of the restroom, and others hurrying forward... but she didn’t see Claire Yardley or the others.
Claire Yardley, having gotten her luggage, chatted with the man as they headed toward the airport exit.
At one exit, they noticed police officers checking tickets, and both of them halted cautiously: "What a coincidence."
Claire Yardley looked around calmly, "They probably are checking something else, or it could just be for show." ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ NoveIFire.net
"Let’s be cautious and check another exit."
Claire Yardley glanced around. The exits weren’t too far apart, and she could vaguely see police at another exit.
"It looks like they’re searching for something, so there should be police at each exit. It probably has nothing to do with us."
The man still felt uneasy, saying, "How about we go to the terminal? Let Seven pick us up there."
"Alright, I’ll call him."
Claire Yardley put down her suitcase and took out her phone from her bag to make a call.
At the same time, Shannon Quinn, searching on the level above, locked her gaze in this direction. She looked closely, remembering the clothes Claire Yardley and the man wore from the airport surveillance. The man holding a child confirmed she found the right people.
Shannon Quinn was so excited that she momentarily forgot what to do. Knowing a loud shout would alert them, she forced herself to calm down, quickly called Landon Sutton, and checked the floor she was on to confirm Claire Yardley’s position.
As soon as the call connected, Shannon Quinn eagerly said, "I see them! They’re at the second-floor exit hall, hurry and send people!"
And she immediately saw Landon Sutton entering with several officers who were searching the exits.
Claire Yardley and the man also saw this. At first, they were still lucky, hoping it wasn’t for them until Claire Yardley recognized Landon Sutton.
She immediately put away her phone and said to the man, "Run! Into the elevator!"
There was no time to worry about the luggage; the man didn’t even understand the situation but focused on holding Leo and running towards the elevator.
Claire Yardley, with her weaker physique, was no match for several big men, and with high heels on, she twisted her ankle and fell to the ground before reaching the elevator door, quickly getting apprehended by police.
The man had already reached the elevator door, looking back worriedly, but there was no way back. Claire Yardley shouted at him, "Run! Don’t worry about me!"
The man swallowed, and just as the elevator stopped on this floor, he hurriedly ran into the elevator with Leo.
As the elevator doors were about to close, Claire Yardley shouted loudly, "Kill him! Don’t let that child live!"
She had underestimated Landon Sutton!
The man took the elevator straight to the fourth floor, while Landon Sutton ran up the escalator. When he reached the fourth floor, he saw the man holding Leo walking towards the outside of the hall.
Unexpectedly, there were also police waiting at the terminal.
Seeing they were about to be surrounded, the man remembered Claire Yardley’s words to him.
Kill this child...kill him...
