Chapter 41: Chapter 41

Third POV.

Hearing that, the family of three looked at each other and wondered what time it was and why he was already back.

"It's two in the afternoon," Marcus said after looking at his watch.

“I guess it is either that grandma has talked to him about the book,” Leila said.

“I think so too but not entirely. It is either grandma has told him not to worry about us and we will entirely believe him even though he does have a book or since she already knows after what she did we might deny her …” Elana said what was on her mind but was interrupted by Marcus

“Maybe she put a little effort into finding the book and handing it to him,” he said, making the girl shake their heads in agreement.

“If that book could be found so easily then that would mean that it was never stolen and the old nanny returned or they took it from her,” Leila said, making her sister nod in agreement and Marcus understand.

“Well, guess we can wait and see what Josiah has for us. Maybe he will surprise us,” Elana said while clapping her hands.

After a few minutes, the door was opened and some of the members of the council and Josiah together with Aiden and his father walked in. As everyone was busy stealing gazes at Josiah and wondered what would happen since if he turned out to be a liar and not trustworthy, they would blame themselves for almost bringing in someone who could mess everything up or even cause a lot of lives to be lost through a battle even before they got themselves prepared.

Before anyone could break the silence, the door was opened and Aurora walked in.

“Did you all plan to exclude me from this? Hell no! Even though there's nothing fun about it, it involves my new best friend and sister-in-law. I have to be here,” she said as she glared at her father and brother, making some of the elders chuckle while her family sighed as they shook their heads.

“Well, since you are here your highness. As you can see, we had not started anything yet as we were waiting for the royal princess to make her presence,” Aiden said, making Aurora roll her eyes on him.

“Please spare me. I know that all you can think of is your mate and how you can mate with her as soon as possible,” Aurora said while glaring at him.

“Of course, my sister knows me well,” Aiden said with a smirk on his face.

On the other hand, Leila’s cheek had turned red when she heard these words. She wished that she could open up the ground and hide herself there due to embarrassment. At this moment, Aiden turned his gaze to her only to find her blushing making him chuckle. Hearing the laugh, Leila raised her head slightly and glared at him.

She knew that if this topic wasn’t changed, she might end up wishing she had the gift to teleport. Just as she was about to open to speak she heard,

“Well, can both of you shut up? If you guys want to continue teasing each other, you may just leave now! You guys will make my daughter-in-law run away even before she gets a chance to be spoiled by her father-in-law,” Aiden’s father said, making everyone in the room chuckle as they turned their heads to Leila.

Hearing this, Leila was speechless because she had thought that he was going to help her out of this conversation but it seemed that wasn’t true since he was just making things worse.

“Guess you people aren’t here to talk about Leila,” Marcus said, making everyone stop talking and lower their heads.

“Josiah, where is the book?” Elana asked immediately without giving anyone the time to process anything or prepare themselves.

“I…I…” Josiah lowered his head since he didn’t know what to do. He wished that he could control their minds or make them forget about the book but he knew that was impossible.

Recalling his master's words, he felt sad since he wished that he had gotten some assistance in his mission. He knew that the only people to make him achieve that or even be the old man’s disciple were the girls.

“Cat got your tongue?” Leila asked as she raised his eyebrows.

“I don’t have the book,” Josiah said after a few seconds.

The family of three weren’t surprised at all since that was what they expected but the others were too shocked. They couldn’t believe that they had almost trusted him and doubted the girls. Thinking of this, they turned their gazes in his direction as they wondered whether what the girls had said about him not being a werewolf or a lycan was true.

“Huh? Then where is it? Or are you going to say that you really had it but after going back you couldn’t find it? And now you suspect that it has been stolen from anyone who was staying in the same mansion as you?” Elana asked in a cold voice while her face was expressionless.

When those words were said, Josiah was shocked because that was what he had planned to say but now hearing from Elana, he knew that even if he agreed with her, everyone would think that it was all making sense and claim that he was just finding excuses.

He didn’t know what to do or say for some time. He just stood there like a statue.

My master told me that he had a guest last week. Since a lot of rooms aren’t cleaned and equipped, he offered to let him sleep in my room. He said that as he was getting the blankets and bed sheet from the wardrobe, he had seen the book on the nightstand table but after the man left, he didn’t find it. He thought that maybe the man had placed it in some drawer but after we failed to find that book, it was then he realized that maybe his guest had a reason to visit him.

“Last week? Didn’t the witch who had sealed Leila’s power be kidnapped in the same week?”
