Chapter 28: Chapter 28
Third POV.
They all turned in the direction where the voice came from. Seeing that it was Leila who spoke they were all suspicious since they had witnessed her attitude towards Josiah. Everyone was shocked. Josiah wore a surprise on his face since he had never thought that when the others were doubting him, only Leila would stand on his side...firmly he believed. A thought flashed on his mind making him look up at her with questioning eyes.
Josiah was wondering whether Leila was playing a joke on him or not since he had tasted how the young lady could be dissatisfied by anything. Currently, he couldn't shake off the feeling that she had seen through him and it was only that she did not want to expose him. He knew that both Elana and Marcus had tried to invade his mind but they were unsuccessful. Thinking of this, he panicked a little bit as he looked at Leila whose gaze was already on him deeply. He couldn't help but wonder whether she had succeeded in invading his mind without being noticed.
Josiah's eyes darkened because Leila had turned out to be more powerful than he had imagined.
"Why are you trusting him now?" Elana asked as she was confused.
Elana understood that when Leila made a decision, there had to be a reason behind it. Previously, with the help of her darkness, she, Elana could solve any challenge and even pinpoint whether someone was lying or not. Due to this, she believed Leila but there was no way that she would let the old man go so easily after he was more suspicious than anyone else.
"Do I have a choice?" Leila asked innocently as she looked at her big sister.
"Yes, you can choose but you have to tell us why you opt to trust that old man fully when he is like a thief," Marcus said mockingly with disdain clearly in his eyes.
Hearing and seeing how everyone was behaving, Leila let out a sigh before shaking her head and looking at Josiah.
"Wasn't that what you hoped for?" She asked the old man, making everyone confused and look at her in questioning eyes.
"Huh?" Josiah asked as he couldn't understand her at all.
"Wasn't that what you wished for? That we might say that we believe you? You heard it, right? Are you happy?" Leila said with a calm tone but it was sending chills to people's spine.
Josiah frowned, Elana and Marcus broke into a smile while the others sighed in relief. Nonetheless, Aurora felt suffocated making her believe that she was not supposed to be here but she couldn't bring herself to get out of the room since she was afraid of missing anything that might be of help in the future.
"Then you were lying when you said that you do believe me?" Josiah asked after some time of calming himself down.
"When did I say that?" Leila asked with a charming smile on her face.
The more Elana and Marcus looked at Leila and how she was doing this, they knew that both she and her darkness had bonded, making her behave in such a strange manner. To them, Leila had always been a shy and kind girl but the person in front of them was a completely different person. However, there was no way they were going to say that out loud since they felt that it was better if they dealt with their own issues alone instead of including people.
"Leila, can you stop beating around the bush and tell us your decision and why?" Aiden asked with a frown since he felt that there was something that wasn't right but he also knew that both he and Leila weren't that close for her to trust her fully and tell him everything.
"Honestly speaking, in his explanations, I didn't find any loophole but when he was saying that his expression...tsk...tsk," Leila said with disdain.
"If I may ask, is the book that you are talking about called Sow of the Blood?" Leila asked with questioning eyes.
Hearing the question and the name of the book, Josiah's eyes lit up as he never expected that.
Nodding his head hurriedly, he said," Yes, that's the name of the book."
Elana frowned as she had heard about that book from her father before he left them behind. She couldn't understand how the book fell in Josiah's hands when that book was lastly in the hands of...
Looking at Leila's face, she knew that Leila had some knowledge about the book but still wondered whether their mom had told her before parting ways. Seeing Leila's frown, she could tell that Leila knew the person who had that book and had the same questions as her.
After rejoicing for some minutes inwardly that Leila seemed to have believed his explanation, he noticed the strange silence in the room making him stop whatever he was doing subconsciously and look at Leila. From the young lady's expression, Josiah wondered whether Leila had gotten into his head or if it was a no, how then did she know the name of the book?
"Little girl, how did you know that that book was the one I was talking about?" Josiah asked after thinking about everything carefully.
Both Elana and Leila frowned since to them, Josiah knew so much about their family than they had even thought. If not, how could he tell that the family-owned different books? But they did not voice anything out, afraid that if they did, they might not be able to use something on Josiah to know his secrets.
"I am part of the family unlike you hence I am bound to figure out which book you are talking about," Leila said with a hint of displeasure in her tone.
"Okay, I understand but now do you all believe me? Even Leila herself knows about that book. A book that existed before they were even born thus there is no way I would be lying to you on how I know about their background and everything about them," Josiah said in a pleased tone.
“I just wonder how the book got in your hands. After all, it has been missing.”
