Chapter 20: Chapter 20
I sighed. "I can't fall in love with your sister, Maya"
She chuckled. "Just get to know her first. Time will tell if you will fall for her or not"
I groaned. Is this little girl for real?. "What do you know about love, Maya?". She chuckled. I furrowed my brow. "Maya?"
She giggled. "Nothing. I just think you guys look cute together. You will make a great couple"
I rolled my eyes. Couple?. Did she just say couple?. I scoffed. Mom!!. What has mom placed in this little innocent girl's heart?. I groaned. "Ain't you hungry?" I asked, changing the topic. There's no way I'll continue with that conversation.
She giggled. "I hardly think about food, whenever I'm with you" she batted her lashes and I rolled my eyes. This girl is so good at flirting with older guys. "Ain't you going to the wood?" She asked
I relaxed on the couch. "That should be evening"
"Can I go with you?"
I shook my head. "Nah. Vampires will be out then"
She pouted her lips. "But I can still go"
I shook my head. "No. Ain't you afraid of vampires?"
She chuckled. "Why should I be afraid when I have you"
I rolled my eyes. I kinda like her courage. "You will go with me then. But promise you won't wander away in the wood"
She placed her hand on her chest. "I promise"
I nodded and stood up. "Let's go to my room. I've got something to show you"
She chuckled. "Is it the violin?". I nodded. She jumped up from the couch, happiness written all over her face. " I can't wait to see it!!". She ran out of the studio. I smiled and followed her out.
We entered my room and I brought out the violin I bought for her. I saw her played violin some days ago. It was looking so old and the strings were lost, so I promised to get her a new one, which I did. She jumped on me happily. I handed it over to her and sat down. She sat beside me and began to play. She played so well, her fingers, working magic on the strings. I smiled. After a while, she stopped. I clapped my hands. "Wow!!. You're good"
She smiled and bowed. "Thanks"
I love the way she played. It was awesome. I was curious to know who taught her, so I asked. "Maya who taught you to play the violin?"
She smiled and faced me. "My sister did"
Did she just say her sister?. My eyes widen in their full length. It can't be Elmira right?. I furrowed my brows. "You have another sister?
She chuckled. "No. It's Elmira"
I batted my lashes in surprise. "Yo.. You.. You mean Elmira taught you?".
She nodded. "Yes". I rolled my eyes, trying to believe what she said. It was amazing to me, to hear that Elmira taught her how to play the violin. She's the last person, I thought of.
"Are you sure, she did?"
She nodded. "Yes. You see, Elmira used to be in love with music. Mom told me how she will spend days practicing like she had a competition" I rolled my eyes. Like seriously?. Maya continued. "Mom also said that she was so good that she could play four different instruments before she was ten" she sighed. Her eyes were already gathering up tears and I knew she might burst into tears soon. "She stopped after our parents' death. She had to be on the lookout for me. She was fifteen when our parents died, every responsibility was shouldered upon her. She stopped everything that made her happy to make sure I have everything I wanted. Clothes, food, shelter, and a good life"
Tears drip down her face. I could somehow feel her pain. I sighed and pulled her into a hug. "Hey, don't cry. Remember, warriors, don't cry"
She pulled away from the hug and sniffed. "Guess I'm not a warrior, then"
I smiled. "You're a warrior. And will always be"
She smiled. "Thanks". I handed her a handkerchief and she wiped her tears. "Damien, I don't know if I'm asking too much. I just hope you could make Elmira happy. And give her the life she denied herself of"
I rolled my eyes. "Maya, I can't promise you that I'll always make your sister happy but I can assure you that I will try as much as I can to protect both you and her"
She smiled and hugged me. "Thanks, Damien"
I pecked her forehead, caressing her hair. I don't know why I feel so attracted to her. I'll try as much as I can to keep them safe even though Elmira is in trouble on her own!!.
**
I walked into the throne room to tell the Queen about my decision to enroll Amaya into the werewolf high school. Mom wasn't in. I asked one of the guards and I was told, she went on a stroll with Elmira. I went back to my room. Amaya was already asleep on the couch. I picked her up and placed her on the bed and then covered her with the duvet cover. She stirred a bit. I waited to see if she will open her eyes but when she didn't. I left her and went to sit on the couch.
My mind drifted back to my conversation with Maya. Her words kept replaying in my head. "Damien, I know you think my sister is weak. But she isn't. You just need to know her. Promise me you will try to know her"
I hissed. There's nothing to know about Elmira. I already know she's weak and can't be my mate. What else do I need to know to give me the assurance I need?. I rolled my eyes as Maya's last word played in my head. "Get to know her first. You might end up falling in love with her"
I rolled my eyes. Fall in love with Elmira?. Hell no. What does Maya know about falling in love?. Nothing!!. I hissed. There's no way I'll fall for a timid girl like Elmira!. Never!!. "Consider how she's been the only one taking care of Amaya after their parents' death. You can't consider that weak" my subconscious mind said. I rolled my eyes. "Try to know her as Maya said. Remember you promised Maya you will get to know Elmira?"
I rolled my eyes. Of course, I remember and I also know I'm tied to that promise. It's a must I fulfill it. The knock on the door was what brought me out of my thought. I rolled my eyes. I hate it when they knock on my door and I've told them several times. Gary is the only one permitted to come close to my door or even come in. I hissed. "Who the hell is that?!!"
"I... It's... It's"
I hissed and opened the door with my eyes. He fell to his knees. "Speak up"
"The... The.."
I stood up and walked to him. I dragged him up by the neck and he coughed. "Shh. You'd better not wake her up"
"I'm..."
I heard Maya moved and I dropped him down. "Speak up now and get the hell out!!"
"The Queen is back"
I hissed. "Get out!!"
He ran out and I turned. Maya was staring at me. I rolled my eyes. "Do you have to treat him that way?" She asked
I rolled my eyes. "I hate knocks"
She sighed and sat down. "I don't like it when you make people think you're bad. I know you're good"
I groaned. "Can we not talk about this?"
She sighed. "Ok". There was silence for a while and I wished I had continued the conversation. " Damien?" She called. I raised my head. "Can we play games?"
I nodded, chuckling. I like it when she speaks. "What game do you want to play?"
She rolled her eyes. "Scrabbles"
I nodded. "You know where to get it from"
She nodded and stood up to get it. I rested on the couch. I don't like the fact that Amaya is beginning to notice my bad side. Maybe I should try and reduce my aggression. Even if it's for a week.
